Pink Floyd Unites

The unthinkable happend. They - are - back!

Pink Floyd will play together at the Live 8 concert in London on July 2, it was confirmed today.

The performance will be their first since a concert at Earls Court in 1981.

"Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world," said David Gilmour, guitarist. "Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention then it's got to be worthwhile."

*Creams*

I so hope they're going to tour again... :)

=)

Long Live Pink Floyd.

DeusExMachina 06-12-2005 04:22 PM

I'm going to cry. I really really really want tickets. I wonder how much a ticket to the show and a plane ticket to London would cost...

lunch998 06-12-2005 04:27 PM

You have to win the ticket from a lottery I think.

DeusExMachina 06-12-2005 05:26 PM

How do you get entered into said lottery?

lunch998 06-12-2005 05:38 PM

No idea. I believe Med entered though.

guitarded_chuck 06-12-2005 05:46 PM

I'd enter, but then I'd have to get there. :(

I hope they tour!!!!

Shazzam 06-12-2005 05:53 PM

That's on my birthday!

This could be a good sign of things to come...

rippa32 06-12-2005 06:48 PM

Theyll probably play Money and Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. There biggest hits.
btw I just got Wish You Were Here album, can anyone tell me who sings on what?

Kingofdudes 06-12-2005 06:53 PM

Both Shine on you Crazy Diamonds - Roger
Welcome to the Machine - gilmour
Have a Cigar - Roy Harper
Wish you were here - Gilmour
Both Shine on you Crazy Diamonds - Roger
Welcome to the Machine - gilmour

Wish you were here - Gilmour
That seems really obvious now that you've said it, but for the longest time I couldn't figure out who it was on Welcome to the Machine. Funny that.

pigonthewing82 06-12-2005 08:42 PM

I read the news today oh boy, I can't belive it. I don't think this will mean a new tour though, Gilmour said in the past he would reunite for another benifit concert, whitch this is so unfortunetly I doubt another tour will happen.

PIGS(1 different one) 06-12-2005 08:46 PM

I smell reunion tour...

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-12-2005 10:22 PM

Who's Roy Harper?

rippa32 06-12-2005 10:24 PM
That seems really obvious now that you've said it, but for the longest time I couldn't figure out who it was on Welcome to the Machine. Funny that.
Actually I thought Waters sang it. Oh well. As for Have a Cigar I had a feeling it wasnt either Gilmour or Waters.

moaner 06-13-2005 02:00 AM
Who's Roy Harper?
a singer in the next studio.

roger's voice was fukced from recording shine on 3 times, gilmour didn't like the way it sounded iwth his voice. they found some guy next door.

Riva 06-13-2005 02:17 AM

Led Zeppelin say: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper. :)

/me waits for Schyma to read the thread.

Also, I think we should do Nile Song off of More as a Cover song. Sort of show one of Floyd's more obscure songs, and also one of their hardest ones. I'm also going to record vocals for Wish You Were Here, Nile Song, and maybe something else, to see if you guys think I can sing or not. :)

Dragon_Prince 06-13-2005 03:28 AM

OMG :( I so wanted to go there, why can't you win tickets if you are outside the UK :@

DeusExMachina 06-13-2005 12:27 PM
It was done via text message...you could send in as many as you like for £1.50 each, but as they got at least 2 million messages and there's about 85,000 tickets available I'm hardly hopeful. And there will have been a massive surge considering Floyd's confirmation was announced about 6 hours before the phone lines close. We find out on Wednesday who won tickets.

/prays
Good luck!

Riva, when will you get the recordings to us? I have to leave in a week for a trip, so if we're going to do this and I'm going to be involved, I'd like to know what I need to play soon, so I can record it and send it off to whoever is organizing this for us.

Riva 06-13-2005 05:48 PM

Give me three days. 1. I have exams until tomorrow. 2. I have a bad cold. 3. My time is limited due to work, etc.

Blue Collar Man 06-13-2005 06:32 PM

If the Floyd actually has a tour or even produces and album together or something I will cry. I would do ANYTHING to actually see an actual Pink Floyd show.

standard 06-13-2005 08:27 PM

"Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. It’s crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it’s got to be worthwhile." says Gilmour.

Although I REALLY hope that maybe, just MAYBE, they'll enjoy playing together, and do a tour. I give up my computer and guitar to see them play. That's saying something for me.

Eccles 06-14-2005 05:46 AM

They're headlining Live 8, so they'll get more than 10 minutes guys :)

EDIT: Much as I'd love to see them play live, rocking out to Comfortably Numb or Run Like Hell one last time as a 4 piece in front of a worldwide audience of millions would be a fitting end to (imo) the greatest band of all time.

sumthing2prove 06-14-2005 07:33 AM

Syd barrets terrible...but thats what happens when everyone listening to your musics spaced out too(not that im saying floyd fans are..i mean i never was).but pink floyd wasnt pink floyd until gilmour and waters joined....think of it...each could write great songs...and to boot they made an orchestra out of themselves.

sumthing2prove 06-14-2005 07:58 AM

Hey...who'd win in a fight...gilmour or waters...im saying gilmour..from what i hear hes like a quiet storm lol.

sumthing2prove 06-14-2005 08:00 AM

i wanna see themget angry...

sumthing2prove 06-14-2005 08:05 AM
I find i don't need drugs to enjoy pink floyd.
neither do i....music can affect me in an extreme way without any substance...drugs are for the weak.

sumthing2prove 06-14-2005 08:08 AM
My favorite album of theirs is Animals. I guess it isn't haunting, but its dark, very serious, and the music is amazing. Great lyrics throughout the album, too.
if you listened to the wall repeatedlywithout ever seeing the movie it rocks.i think seeing the movie years later kind of changed my views...limitations..but still near perfect.and the coolness of have a cigar is unmatched
