I like the class. I'm good at history for some reason.

But I have to do a speech on something in America between 1600 and 1865.
Nothing happened during that time. I mean, I know all the wars and indians and blah blah blah, but we're not supposed to do something we already know a lot about.
So far all I have is the Auburn Correctional Facility and Irish Immigration.

Actually, quite a lot happened during that time. Do some more research.

Oh boy you need to read some history books, real ones.

Prior to 1865 some of the most influential and foundation setting events occured wich have defined what the country is today. Ranging from economic principles to foundational government structure, laws and bills wich would change the shape of the legal system, etc..

You might want to check out 'A People's History of the United States' by Zinn.

Great book, much more accurate then most history texts.

Janeway 09-09-2006 11:59 PM

I have to read it in a course I take next semester.

I'm doing the Mountain Meadows Massacre anyways.

Josiah 09-10-2006 12:06 AM

Indeed, also makes for a fantastic reference to other great texts about more specific times/events.

des las Casas 'History of the Indies' is brutal

For sure. I read some of that in a latin american studies class...depressing how out of whack the Europeans were at the time.

Josiah 09-10-2006 12:21 AM

Figures she'd pick something to do with killing that really wasn't that big of a deal by any means in terms of historical importance.

_R2D2_ 09-10-2006 12:24 AM

it would've been easier just to do the american revolution!!

Sunshine 09-10-2006 12:33 AM

Haha, these two army privates hit on me and my friend today.

They were such losers.

Janeway 09-10-2006 12:34 AM

Yep.

Sunshine 09-10-2006 12:36 AM

Ah well.

They didn't ask if me and my friend were lesbians.

Everybody thinks I'm a lesbian and I have no idea why.

Josiah 09-10-2006 12:43 AM

Cause you play drums?

_R2D2_ 09-10-2006 12:43 AM

In grade 9 I went on a canoe trip in outdoor ed. and we spent most of the trip trying to get our science teacher to admit he liked lesbians. He finally admitted that he found them attractive in a sexual way.
That was the best course Ive ever taken.

Corkofski 09-10-2006 03:37 AM

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

our science teacher gave us a free lesson cause he bet we couldnt access porn on the school computers...

god bless babelfish...

My chemistry teacher enjoyed blowing up the class room.

He spilt chlorine, set fire to several desks including his own, destroyed several fume cupboards and chased a wasp round the room with a flamethrower.

Sync0pation 09-10-2006 08:08 AM

My bio teacher is very honest. "Where is brandon?" she asks. Brandon raises his hand. "No, you can't be Brandon, Brandon is very very ugly." "No.....i'm...Brandon.."

This pretty much sums me up this weekend:

"Rabbits Are Roadkill On Rt. 37"

What once did exist,
Now is meaningless.
And doesn't it seem funny,
How soon you did forget (How soon you did forget)
All the words that now lost their way
But I remember, I remember

Desperation. Devastation.
All I truly know (All that I know)
Is isolation. Self-damnation.
All life that I know
Was shed and worthless now

What I knew was wrong,
One who lived is gone.
Guess it was just an echo,
When you would sing my song (When you would sing my song).
All the notes you've forgotten now
You've left abandoned, I remember

Desperation. Devastation.
All I truly know (All that I know)
Is isolation. Self-damnation.
All life that I know
Was shed and worthless now.

I can
Hate myself
More
More than anyone (will you join me?)

I know you know that this tortures me.
Have I created the suffering?
Show me.
Or do you happily cut further in
to sever what's left inside
that binds me?

Now all I feel is:

Desperation. Devastation.
All I truly know (All that I know)
Is isolation. Self-damnation.
All life that I know
Was shed and worthless now.

Desperation. Devastation.
All I truly know (All that I know)
Is isolation. Self-damnation.
All life that I know
Was shed and worthless (worthless) now.
