Yeah he is good, I am one of the rarer fans who actually like James LaBrie instead of think he ruins Dream Theater so i don't disagree, but it just seems cheesy to me, maybe the lyrics i dont know. Just like that part in Learning To Live where before it, the lyrics are great, then it comes to 'the 90's bring new questions..' and it just seems so cheesy to me.
That's a lyrical thing, I think.

Actually, most people in here love James, I know I do. Except that one guy in here, I forget his name...

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 02:10 PM

Doesnt Cain hate LaBrie's vocals?

Jev 02-25-2006 02:12 PM
I think most of the regular posters in this thread like LaBrie and believe him to be an asset. Me being one of them.
Same here. I wish I had a voice like LaBrie's.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:03 PM

I dont really wish I could sing like LaBrie. I would much rather have the ability to shred like Petrucci.

Jev 02-25-2006 03:04 PM

I wish I could do both. At the same time. Petrucci has a pretty good voice as it is though. Those backing vocals on Silent Man on SFAM are awesome.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:06 PM

Thats Petrucci... . I thought it was Portnoy.

He does have a good voice.

Jev 02-25-2006 03:09 PM

I heard it was overdubbed in the studio though because Petrucci got the words wrong. Still, great voice.

Lord Abortion 02-25-2006 03:12 PM

If I sold my soul to Satan, would he let me sing like James in exchange?

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:14 PM
If I sold my soul to Satan, would he let me sing like James in exchange?
Maybe. Try it...

Lord Abortion 02-25-2006 03:27 PM

I think you have to play images and words backwards to communicate the message to him.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:28 PM

Either that you you can Instant Message him. Im sure they have the internet down there.

Duman 02-25-2006 03:30 PM

Ah right my bad, i'm glad we agree then.

Btw, do you guys know why Myung stopped being so energetic like since the images and words tokyo dvd?

Lord Abortion 02-25-2006 03:32 PM

Sure, he's luC1f3r666@hotmail.com

I don't know. He seemed to just get really shy.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:42 PM
Sure, he's luC1f3r666@hotmail.com
He is also

Bealzubub_Number_of_The_Beast666 on AIM

I have yet to hear Myung talk.

Jev 02-25-2006 03:48 PM

He did an instructional video. That must've been hell for him.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:50 PM
He did an instructional video. That must've been hell for him.
Really. I would love to see it. Did he give a wise ass answer about what he was playing once on a DVD?

Lord Abortion 02-25-2006 03:52 PM

He only talks sparingly in the commentaries.

I love the bit in I&W live when everyone goes to get a cup of coffee and a toilet break in Mike's drum solo.

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:52 PM

Whats their best DVD after Budokon?

Lord Abortion 02-25-2006 03:54 PM

LSFNY is my favourite...

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 03:55 PM

I cant find that one anywhere. If metal was more popular, it wouldn't be a problem to find all this stuff.

Duman 02-25-2006 04:06 PM

Yeah LSFNY is great, especially as it's got the whole of ACOS on there, that's really special aswell as of course, the whole SFAM album which just rocks

GenuineImitation 02-25-2006 04:54 PM

I couldnt find LSFNY, but I did pick up 5 Years in a Lifetime and Images and Words Live in Tokyo for $17. Which is very cheap for 2 DVD's in the states.

Personally I think LTL has some of the greatest DT lyrics. I think Myung writes the most beautiful lyrics, just a shame he contributes so few.

17 bucks? Damn, I pay more than that for a single DVD...

Is the live ACOS any good? I have the Live In Budokan CD, and don't care for it much...

I havent watched it yet, but I will let you know.

Im sure it is.

genuine you owe it to me to get that in-ear monitor question answered ;)
and tell em that some boy in phoenix wants their babies.

portnoy said that myung's writing style is more free-verse and difficult to fit with the music, as opposed to everyone else's metered writing style. but he says myung's free to contribute whenever he wants.

Yeah, it's really good, I like Budokan and LSFNY about the same, but for different reasons.

Yeah, he said Myung has to write lyrics that fit the music.

nowitzki 02-26-2006 09:58 AM

I just realised the intro music when I saw DT live was the main theme from A Clockwork Orange.

Ytse 02-26-2006 10:51 AM

I personally think Myung is a great lyricist. He wrote one of my favorite DT songs (lyric-wise) which was Hollow Years. I love how they all contribute though, it's just awesome. Anyone going to the Cleveland show at the Agora on March 19th? Man.. I can't wait.

Lord Abortion 02-26-2006 11:05 AM

Yeah, I agree about hollow years, magnificent lyrics

temporary 02-26-2006 05:59 PM
Yeah, I agree about hollow years, magnificent lyrics
Meh, I don't much care for the studio version, but the live version from Budokan (which I happen to be listening to now) is fantastic. Petrucci's solo is one of the best parts of the whole album.

Lord Abortion 02-26-2006 06:12 PM

Yeah, the bad thing about that is mine ripped odd and there's some wierd noises at the start. could someone send it to me without that?

wma if possible...

seconded that solo is incredible

ghettoeddo 02-26-2006 07:50 PM

it is o-r-g-a-s-m-i-c.
i tried figuring it out cuz my band is covering it, but idk what the heck he's doing.

lord abortion, your e-mail isn't working...i got a delivery status notification error.

Deth 02-26-2006 08:48 PM

I bought Awake's guitar tab book for $1 today. I don't even play guitar, but it's fun to realize how badly I don't play it by looking at all the solos.

Ytse 02-26-2006 10:01 PM

Yeah I like both versions of Hollow Years, I almost died when I heard the extended solo on the live DVD though, it was just too good to be true.

You lucky mofo.

I'll buy it for £1. That's like $1.75

I shed a tear when LaBrie said, "Mr. John Petrucci!!" for some reason. Just so emotional.
