Andre raps as well, and he's damn good at it.
In their older stuff moreso, in their new stuff he hardly ever raps. |
i know that, i mean andre 3000, because Big Boi is an ***, who does promote the gangster image.
Prepare For War = Best dragonforce song ever |
That's another thing that gets me, the ebonics. Apparently this is supposed to be one of the intelligent rap groups, but still the names are spelt "Big Boi" and sh.it like that. If they really wanted to set themselves apart, they could start by spelling properly.
OK Lord Dargon. You know how many friggin metal bands mispell their names? Do you realize it doesn't freaking matter, your just using the stereotypes of rap and being closed minded. Go and dig through the groups we are talking about, check out their stuff, it is amazing lyricism, most of it much better than a lot of metal |
I have no problem with rap as a musical style, but I have a huge problem with its current subject matter. The way I see it, rap was very well on its way to developing a highly influential social consciousness in the late '80s, with bands like Public Enemy rapping about social injustice like the LAPD killing innocent black people simply on the basis of the percieved criminal intent of said individuals. It was shaping up to be a very vital, important cultural revolution. Then what happens? Gansta rap comes along and brings the gang wars, drug addictions, and horrible sex-related disease and hardship of the inner cities to the mainstream, and treats ALL of it as something to be respected, with a scant few rappers, like 2pac, sticking with the social consciousness direction. The "pimp" legend followed that and totally sunk rap and perpetuated every possible stereotype of the modern 20-something black man. Just ridiculous. Now we have black people dreaming of being these people instead of productive members of society, and thanks to us and our continuing prejudices, that's all they feel like they CAN be. That and basketball players. But that whole era of rap, in my opinion, just made the whole situation worse, reinforcing white prejudice while perpetuating the downward spiral of inner city life. All these idiots like Nelly need to see Boyz N The Hood or something. I hate modern rap not because it's hard to listen to, but because its subject matter is repugnant. Anyways, I know I probably generalized a lot, so if anybody takes issue with my idea of the situation, I'd be happy to discuss. That's just the way I see the trend developing.
Very well put. It obsesses most teenagers in the sub urbs, and its downright annoying. When I actually lived in the sub urbs I couldn't go anywhere without seeing how influential this form of 'music' has been. Look at stores in the mall, clothes people wear, all are influnced by the music. White kids dressing like they're black, talking like their black, losing all of their true heritage. Mainstream rap is diminishing every positive aspect of american teenagers and pre teens in general, though it isnt like everyone is listening to it and pretending that they are part of the life style glamorized in the music they listen to. Why this music is so popular is beyond me, but you eather like rap, mindless pop, or the more intelligent set tend to like real rock/metal ect. because they think about what they're listening to and how most of it is utterly pointless. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I dislike rap, at least mainstream rap.. |

I'm not talking about Korn or Linkin Park or any of that bull**** here. Any metal band that takes themselves seriously and tries to make an impact in the music world spells their name properly. Joe: No, Fury of the Storm is the best, although Prepare for War has the great part... "Rage and fear from skies above the fire fuels my veins Destruction of humanity the everlasting flame" |
fury of the storm definatly owns
i do love sonic firestorm loads, the blasts are just like OMG BLASTS! |

Don't get me wrong, I love metal, but you can't talk about rappers not being taken seriously because of their names when you have bands like Anal Blast, Cannibal Corpse, Mortician, etc. And for misspellings, Kreator, Berzerker, etc. The point is, the name does not make an artist, the music does. |
Can't forget about Karcass ;)
But I mean, really. The hip-hop culture is making ignorance and iliteracy seem cool. |
Hip Hop is this new garbage about the cars and stuff, rap is the early stuff that kicked ***.
|
There's more annoying, materialistic rap than good rap. But there is some good rap. The early stuff was good ;)

yea as much as i disslike rap, the earlier stuff wasn't that bad. the lyrics were more than drugs and sex and money. now it sucks |
I've never liked rap...

Gotta turn it into percentages:
30% wiggers 10% emo kids 10% punks 20% goths 5% metalheads 25% normal preppy kids |
My old high school class was:
5% metalheads 40% punk kids 30% emo kids 5% pop 10-20% rap sucked |
From what I hear mainstream is taking over. Street punk and Oi are all losing their record labels, going bankrupt, and metal is not doing that well either.
:upset: |
Mine...
5% classic rock 30% Hip-hop/pop 10% Really mainstream metal/hardrock 4% goths 4% punks 2% Real metal The rest don't give a **** about music. My school sucks. |
My class:
10% worth knowing 90% not even worth talking to Of the 10% 50-70% classic Rock 5% Metal 10% Rap 15-30% Punk/Emo/Trendy |
My school="ghetto".
For christs sake, I talk to like 10 people out of the 700 that go there. :upset: |

I bet all of that classic rock is mainstream arena rock (ac/dc, guns n roses, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Who). Not neccisarily a bad thing, but you barely ever see people who are into blues and folk rock. |
