Bump...
Maybe a stupid question that I should know already but: Why are there only 3 guys at the cover of the selftitled, when they were 4 guys recording??? |
Topper wasn't in the band yet. It was only Joe, Mick, and Paul.
|
ohh, I just thought that there were 4 guys listed in the booklet, I may be wrong. Thank you anyway.
|
Yeah there was 4 guys listed in the booklet. Terry Chimes recorded all tracks on the first album, but left before it was released. So when they shot the album cover, it was only Joe, Mick and Paul.
|
Arhh okay, that explains it all.
Thanks a lot, I've thinking a lot about it recently actually, and it bothered me that I couldn't figure it out. |
Well, Terry recorded everything on the UK s/t, but on the US one a couple of the songs were done with Topper on drums.
|
Were the new songs added on the us versions recorded in 77 or 79?
|
Which songs are the best songs off of Sandista? I really want to hear stuff off of this album.

Somebody Got Murdered (perhaps my favorite Clash song), Police On My Back, Up In Heaven (Not Only Here), The Magnificent Seven, Washington Bullets, The Leader, Charlie Don't Surf. Those are some of the best off Sandinista!. |
I only have s/t uk version and London Calling. What should I get next?
Also I bet people have already discussed this in forever, but which version do you guys prefer, the english or us version? |

Also I bet people have already discussed this in forever, but which version do you guys prefer, the english or us version?
This thread has seen some posting lately. I've missed it. Where the hell is Combat Rock? He kept this going good. Anyway, I prefer the US version. Clash City Rockers, Complete Control, and especially Whiteman In Hammersmith Palais seals the deal for me. |
US has better individual songs, UK is more cohesive. I say UK version cos I Fought The Law, Complete Control, Clash City Rockers,& White Man are all the compilations (inc. the live album) and Jail Guitar Doors is on SBMC. Plus the singles version of White Riot thats on the US version is all the compilations too.
|
Yeah, the UK album does seem to fit together better, as it was their first. The the US version had some great singles though, like the ones mentioned. But the version of White Riot on the UK version is better than the US one.
I only have s/t uk version and London Calling. What should I get next?
Get Give 'Em Enough Rope next. Then Combat Rock or Sandinista!. |
yeh i agree with Tom79, i got into them through other punk music so their earlier punkier records were easier to get into, then as i progressed onto Combat Rock & Sandinista! i was more prepared for their musical experimentation. Some of the crazy dub stuff or calypso vibes on Sandinsita! can be off-putting at times

I wondered what the old Clash members are doing now?
|
Joe Strummer is dead.
Paul's an artist, Mick's a music producer and Topper's probably still a junkie. |
Yep ok I knew about Joe.
Is Paul's stuff any good and Who is Mick producing for? |
Mick produced the Libertines debut album, I think. He's also in a band called Carbon/Silicon.
|
And Terry Chimes/Tory Crimes is a chiropractor!
|
damn i did have give em enough rope but some guy stole it from my cd case or i lost it but the fact is i dont have it any more:(
|
My band might be doing White Riot, should sound fun I guess.
|
White Riot is one of the best punk songs from its time.
