I'd say their earlier stuff (or what I've heard from it) is. Fair Trades And Farewells isn't emo though.

Angry Balled Fists! 11-10-2005 01:53 PM

RetiredAt21 11-10-2005 01:54 PM

Fair Trades And Farewells is my favorite. If it's not emo, what is it?

Sep 11-10-2005 01:55 PM

Post-hardcore, I think?

Makes sense to me.

RetiredAt21 11-10-2005 02:54 PM

I guess post-hardcore makes sense.
Yeah I might drive too. It wouldn't be that long. The pain in the *** is that I'd have to go to Alabama first.
Abolish Screamo? does that mean they hate the label?
Perhaps we shoulod start calling emo and screamo by other names? It's getting to the point where nobody is going to actually know what they are talking about, and FFTL will be the new definition of emo...

What the hell would we call real emo/screamo?

whiteminority 11-10-2005 04:26 PM

dude who gives a **** what its called anyways? as long as you know what it is and can find and appreciate new real emo/screamo bands thats all that matters.

deadohiosky9 11-10-2005 04:40 PM

hot cross are emo, they just experiment and do different things that the traditional emo/screamo bands. and its called the Abolish Screamo tour, because they all hate the term "screamo", especially Billy. they think its horse s.hit.

Wow 11-10-2005 04:50 PM

Hardcore.

deadohiosky9 11-10-2005 04:53 PM

yeah hardcore encompasses all that stuff, emo/screamo is just further classification. you can't make a new genre for it. ash drive to alabama.

whiteminority 11-10-2005 04:58 PM
Hardcore.
yep.

It's just confusing trying to explain it too people, and constantly being mistaken. If there was a new name, I probably wouldn't get pissed at all the MCr fans going "oh im so emo" and stuff...
Hardcore.
That sounds good, but it's going to really confuse people who like hardcore.

whiteminority 11-10-2005 05:15 PM

emo is hardcore. if you like emo you like hardcore.

deadohiosky9 11-10-2005 05:23 PM

most people who like hardcore understand it. since it is hardcore...and why bother making a new name beacuse of the ignorant? who cares. they aren't affecting us. let them say what they want, or punch them in the face.

whiteminority 11-10-2005 05:29 PM

neeshee that last part punch them in their face reminds me of a modest mouse song "tiny cities made out of ashes" for some reason. "im gonna hit you in your face. im gonna punch you in your glasses..."

back on topic. its cool to educate and worry about misclassification but when it comes down to it just take the knowledge you have and use it to your advantage: find the most killer emo and screamo and whatever else you like bands you possible.

deadohiosky9 11-10-2005 05:30 PM

i'd rather punch them in the face and tell them i'm hardcore.

Special Brew 11-10-2005 05:35 PM

But hardcore and emo sound completely different. I know that emo is hardcore, but let's say I was trying to talk to a traditional hardcore specifically abuot the emo sound, what would I call it? If I said emo or screamo, they would assume it's the modern pop crap, and if i said hardcore, they would be getting the wrong impression of what I'm trying to describe.

whiteminority 11-10-2005 05:36 PM

neeshee that would be funny as hell. you dont look like you would hurt a fly. as a matter of fact the only thing that you have beaten gets its regular beating nightly to the thoughts of lunch lady cleavage. :p

whiteminority 11-10-2005 05:37 PM

it depends... just tell them to think of revolution summer hardcore bands.

Special Brew 11-10-2005 05:42 PM

That would surely confuse someone. I would, but when you say revolution summer, what do you mean? Name some bands that started the revolution summer thing. I don't read this thread often, so forgive me if this is a dumb question.

It seems that emo/screamo varies anywhere from music that sounds almost identical to hardcore, to spastic grindish music. It would be hard to designate a certain sound to them.

Wow 11-10-2005 05:45 PM

Revolution summer is the summer of '85 when emo was supposedly started.

Listen to Modern Life is War then Stay Gold. They both sound hella different but people know they're both hardcore bands. It wouldn't be too confusing.
