Drums are the most fun instrument to play.
It's true. I rented drums for a month because I was bored with bass, and it is extremely fun. But it also made me realize that I need to stick to bass becuase I've already learned so much on it, and I don't really know anything on drums.

PSG, put up some links. Or YSI a song or two. I wanna hear that.

Shtein 07-15-2005 01:05 PM

...Its been a long time...

Where did you rent them from? I didn't know you could do that.

Jessizzle 07-15-2005 01:08 PM

I dont have any links i heard it on ska party soo Ill ask skip for links lata

albert_bass 07-15-2005 01:08 PM

Yeah I like to try drums every now and then because that's my favorite instrument but I suck at them so I stick with bass.

Forest_Fire 07-15-2005 01:09 PM

It's called "The Doo Wop Shop". They started out as a place that rents out orchestra an band instruments for schools, and then they eventually added guitars and basses and drums. It's just local I think.

guns_of_brixton 07-15-2005 01:48 PM

If you can play guitar you can play anything, that's what I've found.

I <3 Rancid Dan.

Shtein 07-15-2005 01:51 PM

From personal experience since i play guitar i can play most things except for drums...i just cant di it:(

Sid 07-15-2005 01:52 PM
Bass is a poor man's guitar.
Wrong. I used to think that too, before i started playing bass. Most guitarists could never play the kind of bass lines a good bass player can play. It's just a whole different instrument.

Someone that commits themselves to playing bass and playing it well will be better than even the best guitarist would be at playing bass.

EDIT: Unless of course said guitarist also was a bass player(not just able, but has studied and knows the finer points of bass along with the practice of it).

Forest_Fire 07-15-2005 01:53 PM

When you listen to bands like Choking victim and five hours, it's hard not to want to be a bassist. I probably would have stopped playing if not for these two bands.

Sid 07-15-2005 01:54 PM

Choking Victim don't have much to their bass lines...

Catchy though.

Jessizzle 07-15-2005 01:56 PM

Im pretty bad when I dont pratice. I guess I should start again this summer. Iv just been busy.

i was about to say that myself. i played guitar just barely before i bought the bass, and it did help a little to teach myself the bass (i didn't have to go looking up "which of these frets is G?" on google or anything), but it's definitely way different. i try to take what i can from one and maybe use it with the other (bass has helped me a bit with solos on guitar, not to mention my hands are alot stronger), but the two are definitely very different.

Forest_Fire 07-15-2005 01:56 PM

Yeah, that's what I meant. The basslines sound amazing, but even a 15 year old kid in kentucky can pick up his bass and play along.

Very true. Bass rules.

guns_of_brixton 07-15-2005 02:02 PM

I can play bass pretty well but not s good as a bassist.

Sid 07-15-2005 02:04 PM

Yeah playing guitar obviously helps if you want to pick up the bass because they're both string instruments and the strings and notes (G is in the same place on bass as on guitar) are the same. Only difference is you have 4 or 5 strings rather than 6 usually.

Forest_Fire 07-15-2005 02:05 PM

The bad thing around here is, everyone plays bass. So it's hard to start bands. I rented the drums so I could learn them and be in a band with any of my friends that played bass. But I can't do it. Bass is just fun, and many people play it becuase it's not as complicated to play as guitar is. It sucks when you try to start a band. You have to basically plead with people to play guitar or drums. Even worse for horns

Jessizzle 07-15-2005 02:06 PM

Drums are hard, I mean you have to do like 10 billion diffrent things at once. But theyre alota fun.

123 but for Guitar.

guns_of_brixton 07-15-2005 02:07 PM

Everyone here plays guitar, and I'm the only good guitarist who doesn't play metal and takes the instrumen seriously.

Shtein 07-15-2005 02:09 PM

probably :)
