Willy and the Poor Boys is good.

Senators rule.

Krabsworth 11-04-2005 11:08 PM

Were CCR from NC or Kentucky? I was down there this last summer, and I saw it, I can't remember where in particular though, it was either NC or Kentucky. There is this little Ferry, the river is only like, maybe 30-50 feet wide, and this ferry goes back and forth, only moving like 10 feet to get cars across. The river is pretty green, I was scared to think how many water snakes were in there :-/

blue3 11-05-2005 12:54 AM

Rush is a good band. I need to listen to more of their stuff.

They're surprisingly from San Fransisco...

I've been addicted to Django Reinhardt lately. I have this album with him and violinist Stephane Grappelli and the intuitive symmetry of their performances is a true marvel. Just fantastic.....

Does anyone have any Django Reinhardt they'd be willing to upload? If you don't have any of his material I highly recommend you at least download a song or two. His guitar playing ranks with the best of them.

I think I can say Django (and maybe MMW) is what got me into jazz. I love the guitar work, the bass, and on occassion just that rich old ancient music sound. It makes me wonder what that stuff would sound like live, or with decent recording equipment
I find myself wondering the same about QMS- I would love to have seen them live

People I'd Most Want To See Live
---------------------------------
1. Jeff Beck
2. John Coltrane
3. Allman Brothers (with Duane)
4. Miles Davis
5. Grateful Dead
6. Django Reinhardt
7. Robert Johnson
8. Jimi Hendrix
9. John McLaughlin
10. Quicksliver Messenger Service

I agree they'd (QMS) would be outstanding to see in a live setting.

Badmoon: Can I get some Tony Rice from you? :)

jpj 11-05-2005 09:19 AM

Oh, sweet now we can all start making lists again! I love lists!

1. Led Zeppelin
2. Pink Floyd
3. The Grateful Dead
4. The Allman Brothers (with Duane and Berry)
5. Frank Zappa
6. The Doors
7. Phish
8. Charles Mingus
9. Eric Dolphy
10. Miles Davis

In no particular order.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-05-2005 09:30 AM
The Doors
I would love to see the Doors but not exactly for the music. The Doors were never a great live band but Jim could put on a show! The first and greatest frontman IMO.

JonG 11-05-2005 09:55 AM

1. Frank Zappa
2. The Beatles
3. The Grateful Dead
4. Allman Bros
5. Rory Gallagher
6. Led Zeppelin
7. Pink Floyd
8. Phish
9. The Who
10. Traffic

Livewired, how'd you like those albums?

:)

jpj 11-05-2005 09:58 AM

I thought about putting The Who (with Keith and John) and Traffic on there.

robo2448 11-05-2005 10:05 AM

Yay lists are fun.

1. The Who (1969-1970)
2. Cream (1968)
3. Bob Dylan and The Band (1966)
4. The Beatles (rooftop concert)
Also George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh or Concert for George, close enough to count them as Beatles.
5. Pink Floyd
6. Blind Faith
7. Allmans (with Duane)
8. The Grateful Dead
9. Ravi Shankur
10. QMS

How the hell am I supposed to limit this to 10? My list sucks, but I don't really feel like changing it.

Oh yeah, hockey is the only sport that I am not a fan of.

Broken Arrow 11-05-2005 10:15 AM

Time 11-05-2005 10:55 AM

this is pretty random but i havent really listened to frank zappa but everybody recommends him to me, so what are his best albums?

JonG 11-05-2005 11:06 AM

Hot Rats is an excellent starting album.

If you don't like it, there is something wrong with you :)

Yeah, CCR is all about "Born on the Bayou", they were born in California,

An underrated Zappa album is definately Cruising With Ruben & Jets.

"Born On The Cul De Sac"

Ibanez Slayer 11-05-2005 11:21 AM
Freak Out! was his debut, and is a really exceptional album. That normally features on any list of his best music. Hot Rats was the first album he recorded without the Mothers of Invention, I think, and is a very good jazzy album that's great for showing how good he is at guitar as well. Apostrophe is most often cited as being one of his best "funny" albums, although some of his humour is very hit and miss as to whether you'll like it. We're Only In It For The Money is a darker album, but is still very good too. In all honest, you'll get loads of different answers about Zappa, but you can't go wrong with Freak Out!. That's where I'd start, personally.
did you know he wrote a song about brushing your teeth?

JonG 11-05-2005 11:28 AM

He wrote a lot of songs :)

His serious side is way better then his funny side.

Broken Arrow 11-05-2005 12:13 PM

My faourite Zappa is Feak Out! and Hot Rats.

I like Hot Rats better though.

It's interesting how many people put QMS in theirs.

Doctor Night 11-05-2005 02:13 PM

So... as I continue with my classic rock addiction. I have purchased Led Zep III and Who's Next

I love both, 'won't get fooled again' is a brilliant song.

Illmatic 11-05-2005 02:29 PM

I missed out on the list-making? aw shucks :(

won't stop me from participating

Miles Davis
Jimi Hendrix (Band of Gypsies era)
Sly & the Family Stone
Eddie Hazel-era Parliament and/or Funkadelic
Duane Allman-era Allman Brothers Band
Keith Moon and John Entwistle era-Who
Herbie Hancock (although since he's still alive and apparently touring, this one is still a possibility :))

Chuck Berry
Bob Marley & the Wailers

Honorable Mention: James Brown (in his absolute prime)

Broken Arrow 11-05-2005 02:34 PM

Hmmmm, I see a trend in your list.

Illmatic 11-05-2005 02:35 PM

What, that most of them are black?

What is that supposed to mean?

Broken Arrow 11-05-2005 02:37 PM

I was gonna say something else but now that you pointed that out I see what I could have meant.
