I'm always looking for more jazz uploads, I only have about 12 jazz albums. ;)

NP: The Beatles - I Should Have Known Better

I've been trying to get into Jazz lately. What are some good Jazz artists that have a sound similar to Rock?

Glitterati 11-01-2005 10:58 AM

Jacaranda, is that a Marc Bolan avatar?

PinkFreud 11-01-2005 12:03 PM
Nice :thumb: Never got ahold of that one, how is it?
its quite good, probably my favorite mingus.

dr. feelgood: i would recommend some mahavishnu orchestra as they are a good starting point for people who want to get into fusion through rock.

I’d say the best albums to begin Jazz that are related in some way to Rock are either Hot Rats by Frank Zappa or Blow by Blow by Jeff Beck. Both great albums with great guitar especially Blow by Blow. If you like that get Bitches Brew by Miles Davis.

I agree with this, especially the Bitches Brew part.
whatever happened to syd barrett?
He left P.F, then turned up when they where producing, WYWH, and he was five stone heavier, had no hair and was clinically depressed.

Thats, What Happened to Syd Barret, poor man.

Walrus Gumboot 11-01-2005 02:40 PM

Did Syd Barrett make his presence known on any other PF albums? What did he do to feed himself up until now? Does he work in McDonald's?

I will listen to most any jazz as long as nobody tells me that it's jazz
Mayall was amazing as usual :)

He would play harmonica, guitar and keys. He would do some uber multi-task and play harmonica with one hand and keys with the other.

I ended up getting his new album "Road Dogs" with an autograph.
Sweet. John Mayell is so cool. That'd be great to get his autograph. He's a great harmonica player. Is Road Dogs good?

Harmonica theory with cross harp stuff confuses me a lot. You don't really have to understand the theory to play, so it's all good. I'm sure it would help to understand harmonica theory a little better than I do, but theory for harmonica isn't as important as it is for other instruments.

Bitches Brew is amazing.

Aside from PATGOD, Barrett only made one song with Pink Floyd, Jugband Blues off of A Saucerful of Secrets. Nowadays he's a recluse in Cambridge and is still insane. Sad situation.
im so old school i still listen to my dads old records on my record player
thats the way to do it man. :thumb: i do that alot as well. usually choose an album i yet have to listen to by a favorite artist of mine, and if i like it, i buy it. thats how i got hooked to Clapton's "461 Ocean Boulevard"

jpj 11-01-2005 02:54 PM

Why the hell can I never find a decent picture of Warren Haynes? We'll see if this one works.
Did Syd Barrett make his presence known on any other PF albums? What did he do to feed himself up until now? Does he work in McDonald's?
When asked by the band how Syd was so heavy, he responded "I have a refridgerator at home, with a lot of pork chops".

JonG 11-01-2005 05:42 PM

Best short song ever= It's A Boy.

I love the vocals :o

Songs like those make me mad when I'm listening to my itunes on shuffle. It just comes up randomly after some Doors or QMS.

Krabsworth 11-01-2005 06:06 PM

I haven't heard Hot Rats but I doubt it's jazzy.

Edit: Looks everyone has theirs gone, but anyone with a Halloween avatar after midnight tonight is officially Mx white-trash.
