What's everybodies view on mixing up vocals? like, doing highs, lows, mids, and brees all in one song and changing constantly?
I don't really judge on if they are mixed up or not or what range they qualify in. I just go by what sounds good to me. However, I do LOVE what Jonny Davy from Job For a Cowboy does on their Doom EP. His vocals on that album rank in my favorites of life range.

/commence hate on me for liking Job For a Cowboy gogo

VomitStainedCretin 09-15-2007 02:44 AM

Akercocke's Jason Medonca does some nice variations with shrieks, mid-ranges and gutterals (though some may be one by backing vocalists) in addition to also using clean vocals.

A good example of Chalkie's variations in Psycroptic is Carnival of Vulgarity(awesome song).

Hell yeah dude. Johnny is one of the best examples!
If you're referring to something like Psycroptic - The Colour of Sleep, as an example, then I'd say my view is favorable. It's just one more small thing that adds to the variety and complexity of a song. Makes it more interesting to listen to. Bitch slap me if you're talking about something totally different.
My point exactly.

But Mappy, what do you mean he doesn't do it right

use brees sparingly, listen to jason keyser from skinless-he knows when and when not to bree.

good mix of highs, lows and mids=fun, and brees, when used sparingly and to good effect can also be win.

AA-12 09-15-2007 09:46 AM

Skinless should learn how to go away and never pick up a microphone or instrument again.

speaking of brees, a band at my school was playing called esprok (go ahead and spell that backwards) and they sucked so bad. they had 2 singers and 1 guitarist.

very ****ing gay band.

i am the robots 09-15-2007 11:38 AM

idk they list krunk as their genre

rattlehead42147 09-15-2007 11:39 AM

yeah theyre pretty cool/funny. the guitarist is the biggest slipknot fan but thinks he is an "elite metalhead" or something. hes basically dargon except he doesn't know his ****. i was wearing my nevermore shirt and he goes "NEVERMORE!' in some brutal voice. nevermore aren't death/brutal, and i know damn well hed never heard them he just tries to look cool.

i am the robots 09-15-2007 11:41 AM

slipknot? sick influence brah

Squirrel 09-15-2007 11:47 AM

NP: The Color of Sleep

Havent listened to Psycroptic in so long, forgot how cool the vocals are.

i am the robots 09-15-2007 11:49 AM

ugh, i do not like that guy's vocals at all. his voice slips so much etc.

NemesisDivina 09-15-2007 11:50 AM

what? Matt Chalk's voice is amazing. Unfornately, Psycroptic's only good album is Scepter of the Ancients

rattlehead42147 09-15-2007 11:51 AM

dunno why but that seems like a direct takeoff of testimony of the ancients.
its kinda like onset of putrefaction and reek of putrefaction to me.

Squirrel 09-15-2007 11:52 AM

What do you think of their other two releases?

And their new singer?

[he's ****ing tall, as a sidenote :p]

edit: to nemesis'

i am the robots 09-15-2007 11:52 AM

he is not that good, i'm sorry. he does some things that work, but he tries to do a lot of vocals that he just can't do.

the other two releases were just boring, and the new singer sounds like he's trying to do a Matt Chalk impression except failing at it pretty hard.

Squirrel 09-15-2007 11:54 AM

I like it; its interesting and varied.

Im not a fan of most brutal death metal other than Morbid Angel. What would be some good reccomendations to buy?

rattlehead42147 09-15-2007 12:00 PM

morbid angel isn't brutal.

but death and possessed you would probably like. gorguts/obituary.

DEATH

BallsToTheWall 09-15-2007 12:06 PM

Ill check out Death considering ive heard good things about them, although im not a fan of bands like behemoth,Nile, and Cannibal Corpse.

masscows 09-15-2007 12:25 PM

Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Death, Possessed, Deicide (old), Entombed, Dismember, and Unleashed seem right down your alley.

i am the robots 09-15-2007 12:26 PM

immolation
I like it; its interesting and varied.
i admit it's varied, but i don't think a lot of it works.

eddie hermida > matt chalk

masscows 09-15-2007 12:27 PM

He might like their most recent 2, but their other stuff isn't very accessible. If he's just starting I wouldnt recommend them to him.

i doubt he will like bolt thrower though for some reason.

Good. You already don't like crappy death metal.

rattlehead42147 09-15-2007 12:52 PM

i hate all those bands too, but old cannibal corpse is where its at. tomb of the mutilated and eaten back to life are great dm albums. after the first 4 CC is dead to me.

masscows 09-15-2007 12:58 PM

Behemoth is one of my favorite bands -_-

Cannibal Corpse's early albums are good.

Nostalgia 09-15-2007 01:03 PM

There's a few good songs off Eaten Back to Life. Every other CC is terrible.

AA-12 09-15-2007 01:25 PM

He's a fellow Floridian too

EDIT: woooooo late

LifeInABox 09-15-2007 02:07 PM

Ey Rattle, can you upload Dark Medieval Times, Considered Dead, The Key, and Piece Of Time to mediafire for mah? You've maxed out all your computer authorizations.

I enjoy The Bleeding. I got the re-release version.

I like Butched At Birth the most. I like the Barnes stuff; after that I really don't care for them.
