Just turn up anyway.

It was a photo finish.

FunkMetalBass 08-05-2009 11:07 AM

42 minutes later. Haha.

I didn't refresh my screen, went and made a cup of tea, responded to work emails, and then responded to MX.

Joe fail.

I installed my DVD deck in my car, only to realize that, in bypassing the safety park brake switch, I screwed up the wiring. The DVD player works, but only when the headlights are off. **smacks forehead**

Joe Fail.

Lucky bastard.

However, I'm seeing Halestorm tonight. If you don't know who they are, check them out. The lead singer is fantastic on guitar, vocals, and the eyes. :thumb:

Epidemechanical 08-05-2009 04:53 PM

have fun spiff.

FunkMetalBass 08-06-2009 09:50 AM

Halestorm was AWESOME last night. Very tight live, Lzzy has AMAZING vocals, and they are very down-to-earth people. I tried to make a good impression with them after the show so that, if they ever come through again, my band could have a shot at opening for them. We'll see what happens.

The other bands that played (Kill Kapacity, Vrtra, and Red-Headed Stepchild) were all your typical heavy metal bands, except RHS sounds a bit more like early 90's, Anthrax-like metal.

Seeing shows like last night really inspire me to play out...

...and invest in good earplugs...

gaslight 08-06-2009 10:23 AM

Everyone should have good earplugs at the least, fitted musicians earplugs if possible.

Epidemechanical 08-06-2009 10:45 AM

Crapdragoon 08-06-2009 02:26 PM

have any of you doods used the black beautys? gimmicky or what

Spaceman Spiff 08-06-2009 03:34 PM

Tool show was great. Not the best set I've seen them play, but they still played incredibly.
Set was:
Jambi
Stinkfist
46 & 2
Schism
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Flood
Aenima
Lateralus
Vicarious

The only song on the set I hadn't seen them play was Flood, so that was just awesome. And some other guitarist came out and played 46 & 2 instead of Adam Jones..? Maybe he had to take a dump?

When I bought my Stingray, the guy had put a new set on. They weren't bad, and actually had a really nice slap tone, but they weren't anything super impressive. They did last quite a bit longer than I expected them to, however, so that's a bonus.

I'm not sure if there's a pricing difference between those and a regular steel or nickel set, but they certainly weren't gimmicky, nor are they worth an inflated $5-10 price increase (if there is one).

Were their roadies/techies all running around in lab coats? I think it's awesome that the roadies are incorporated into the show a bit instead of just hiding in the background and only coming on stage when there's a problem. It keeps a tech on stage for potential mishaps and adds to the general fluidness of the show.

It wasn't Billy Howerdell, was it? I didn't know the guys subbed out players like that, but it very well could have been his roadie. Maybe Adam was sick or something and has a professional stand-in for shows like that. It's really a cool idea and I don't know why I never thought of it.

Spaceman Spiff 08-06-2009 04:18 PM

I think it was a roadie/guitar tech. He had on the long white coat. Definitely wasn't Billy Howerdell, Maynard said his name is Stephen. Justin and Adam were in their all white clothing.

Maynard talked a lot and made jokes throughout the show, so that was fun. He disappeared part way through Lateralus during a big drum break (they brought out a second drummer to play with Danny for the song), then he came back out in his underwear with a big plate of fries (he was talking a lot about eating fries throughout the night) and was eating them and walking around the stage feeding them to techs and band members.

Hell yes.

Had my moulds made on Tuesday. Weirdest ear related experience of my life.

They take this blue gunk, kinda looks like liquid Blu tack, and insert via this syringe type thing without the needle.

When it fills your ear it feels like someone just blew a big load in your ear.

Question: I ordered the 15db filter and the 25db filter. Do you think for band practice 25db filter and for live 15db?

Or vice versa?

Practice 25, 15 live.

Live, the sound is not going to be aimed at you at all. You'll be using mostly monitors. In practice, it's a million times louder.

It was a very fun show. Maynard had some funny new dance moves. One of them looked like a crab starting a lawn mower in slow motion.

fatbandit 08-06-2009 07:38 PM

25s will block out SO much noise. I have 15dB reduction in mine, and I find it okay for watching other bands, but still hard to play with them in. Knowing what I know now, I'd go for 9dB reduction filters if I thought it was worth me spending like £50 on new filters when mine still work.

How weird is it? Like a silicone gun haha. I think it's the same gunk they take your mouthguard moulds with.

I have to say....i think i would throw up if they did that to me

how do they make sure it doesn't just leak all the way into you eardrum or worse your brain

gaslight 08-06-2009 11:47 PM

Don't worry, you can't get to the brain that way. It's no riskier than submerging your head in water.

except water drains out of ears/evaporates

weird solidifying liquid rubber **** doesn't necessarily

also, previous post was not entirely serious...

gaslight 08-07-2009 12:27 AM

If ear specialists thought it was a bad idea they wouldn't do it, don't worry :).
