did you like the division bell?
Actually I've never heard it...

Zebra 05-17-2007 09:23 PM

don't even bother, it's just pathetic.

Riva 05-17-2007 09:26 PM

Well, not entirely, it has got some good tracks on it. But if you don't like David's solo work, you won't like The Division Bell, since Mason and Wright contributed almost nothing to it.

And I play The Wall and Animals all the time. I guess even though they haven't lost their magic, the actual message behind them doesn't effect me as much. Iunno.

MattSharpIsCool 05-17-2007 11:03 PM

Rick Wright co-wrote a majority of the songs on The Division Bell. How did he not contribute anything to the album?

The post-Waters albums have grown on me quite a bit. They're still nowhere near being my favorites, but I can definitely listen to them and enjoy it.

I pretty much stop my Pink Floyd collection and listening with Animals. I don't care for The Wall at all.

Leper 05-17-2007 11:27 PM

I haven't heard any of David's solo work besides "On an Island" which I thought was alright.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-17-2007 11:59 PM

On An Island wasn't too bad at all

Rick writes mostly piano/keyboard/synth parts though. And you have to admit The Division Bell is a lot like a Gilmour solo album. Music- and lyric-wise. Rick also co-wrote parts of On An Island also, though.

Collis 05-18-2007 03:47 PM

Post-Waters is definitely listenable ... and High Hopes is one of my favorite Floyd songs, ever. The Pulse version is just sooooo good :)

Riva 05-20-2007 06:27 PM

Ok, so who thinks David wrote Poles Apart about Roger? I used to think it was about Syd, but re-listening to the lyrics, it's more derisive or regretful than sorrowful, and he uses the line "Hey you" which puts me in mind of The Wall, mostly written by Roger, of course.

Danger Bird 05-20-2007 07:15 PM

Everything after Dark Side was crap.

Riva 05-20-2007 07:19 PM

Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall... crap?

morrison357 05-20-2007 07:43 PM

Yeah some of Pink Floyds music was written post-Darkside. WYWH and Animals are phenominal, but The Wall I don't care for to much. And I can enjoy a lot of the post-Waters Floyd.

Danger Bird 05-20-2007 07:45 PM
Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall... crap?
Yeah.

MattSharpIsCool 05-20-2007 08:26 PM

I'm not sure I agree with that, but ok, that's cool.

Any reason you don't like that stuff?

Danger Bird 05-20-2007 08:58 PM

Mostly because it sucks.

buster_the_dinosaur 05-20-2007 09:33 PM

i think animals was their best album. but i get it, i bet youre one of those guys who likes syd barrett better than roger waters. so naturally youre gonna like their early sort of psychedelic stuff more than the later spacey stuff. yeah i completely disagree with you. where i love albums like more and obscured by clouds and saucerful of secrets. the darkside/wywh/animals time period was probably the best 3 album string of any bands career ever.

I like pretty much like any and all Floyd, at least to some extent

But Dark Side, WYWH, Animals and The Wall have some of the sexiest guitar solos ever.

MattSharpIsCool 05-20-2007 10:57 PM

So I just watched Pulse. Disc 2 at least, with all of Darkside, and the encore.

Comfortably Numb is awesome on that disc.

Sanjna 05-21-2007 12:32 AM

How can you White boys listen to this stuff is crazy man

DonBass 05-21-2007 07:37 PM

im tryin to get a vid of money bein played with the wizard of oz and i cant use youtube. can anybody help me out?

MattSharpIsCool 05-21-2007 11:02 PM

Put the CD in and play the movie?

There are a number of sites on the net that tell you how to sync it up.

rippa32 05-21-2007 11:09 PM

On the MGM lions second roar I think.

last_few_bricks 05-22-2007 09:49 AM

I hate to ask this, but why sync it up with the wizard of oz?

MrConeman 05-22-2007 10:05 AM
I hate to ask this, but why sync it up with the wizard of oz?
'cos there's this story that gets passed around everywhere that Darkside syncs up perfectly with the Wizard of Oz. If it does it's entirely coincidental, and I'm pretty sure alot of albums could do that with alot of films, Pink Floyd fans are just weird enough to care and discover it.

David Gilmour was interviewed in a show here and was asked about it, he basically wrote it off, he said something like "probably just some student high on too much spliff"

Kage 05-22-2007 12:35 PM

It sucks anyway, a lot of people see something that really isn't there. Are there some cool coincidences? Sure, a few, but overall it's a waste of time unless you really want it to be true badly enough that you'll make it out to be something it's not.

And these things just happen. Dredg fans claim El Cielo syncs up with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mudvayne's L.D.50 syncs up with 2001: A Space Odyssey, the list goes on. It's just foolishness.

MattSharpIsCool 05-22-2007 09:42 PM

There are a few parts in the sync that are pretty cool, and the music gives a pretty cool feel to the movie, but ya, it's most likely a coincidence. Still kind of fun though, if you've got nothing better to do.

And the Floyd song "Echoes" supposedly matches up with the last part of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I haven't tried that one.

buster_the_dinosaur 05-22-2007 11:19 PM

ive also heard that dark side syncs up with alice in wonderland. now that would take some serious talent, to record an album to sync up with two movies simultaneously

last_few_bricks 05-23-2007 09:44 AM

yeah that would be awesome
