The garden block gates, da valley of the slums. That nigga that nigga got them motha****as on a run. Ya'll thought that I was done, but Lynch is not the one to go out from a gunshot wound nigga I ain't done that soon.

I have been a fan of good hip-hop/rap for a number of years now, and am constantly amazed re-surprised by new artists.
Currently obsessing over: Sadistik CunninLynguists Amyas Blue Scholars WarsawpacK the Blend Blackalicious Buck 65 K'naan Aesop Rock |
dude, the blend? wtf, they're terrible and not even hiphop; it's like frat-party-jam-spoken word. ive heard stories of their vocalist being a tool as well.
otherwise, decent list... haven't heard of amyas, sadistik, blue scholars, or warsawpack - what can you compare them to? |
Warsawpack are hard to pin down. They're insanely politically charged. The rapping has an almost spoke-word vibe to it, but it's definitely rapping. He sounds kind of like a less insane B-Real. Musically, it's really laid back, mostly focusing on sax/flute, drums and bass. There's guitar in there but it's never as pronounced imo. Very jazzy and smooth, which is in direct contrast to the subject matter and tone.
hmm, i dig B-Real... might check it out. doesn't sound like it's up my alley at all though... especially if it's less of a hiphop supporting group and more of a "jazzy/jam/funk" extravaganza.
That post there is basically how G Love & Special Sauce were described to me a few years back.
lol |
Just got reviewer access to B-Real's upcoming Feb 24th release, it's alright so far :-/
serious question: what the fuck is up with plies's teeth??
Not really a massive fan of most rap (except Sway Dasafo who is immense) but I do enjoy dabbling in Grime, anyone else here like it?
has there ever been a best rappers of all time poll? i think that'd be pretty cool to do. i could run it if anyone is interested in making it happen. i'm a big fan of the rap game so i could write descriptions of the rappers that make the list.

I'm not sure if there has been a poll on here. Sounds fun to me. My vote goes to Rakim. PS, your avatar is gross as hell. |
Would Gutter Tactics be a good starting album for getting into Dalek? I've heard a few songs here and there, just don't have a full album.
all the albums are pretty much the same.
gutter tactics is better than abandoned language production-wise... absence is a lot noisier. regardless, dalek is not a very good mc... solid lyricist, but you really gotta be listening to it for the oktopus beats.

resident hiphop-heads... does anyone like el-p as much as i do? i dont know if it's just a bias because he got me into progressive hiphop, but im infatuated. putting out a 5/5 review of fantastic damage soon.
no way is fantastic damage a 5/5.
no possible way. El-P is great though. |
come on, half of your 5/5 albums have no other 5/5 ratings from any other users... it's easily arguable that plenty of those albums are in "no way" a 5. granted, a 4.5 is more realistic for Fantastic Damage, but i tilt it to a 5 for what it's done for my musical journey. the only track i don't really like that much is dead disnee.
He's an ok MC but I don't think his beats work with most of the artists he has under Def Jux. Company Flow and Indelible MC's are really good.
i love his style, but yeah he's not that great. his beats complement his own stuff perfectly for the most part... the sum of the parts is definitely greater than any one component.
i agree, most of his other def jux productions are stupid as hell, except cannibal ox. Company Flow is definitely awesome. |
If you like Cannibal Ox you should pick up the Mighty Joseph album. It has Vast Aire or whatever his name is from Ox and some other guy named Karniege(?) on it. Karniege and Vordul are very good on the Reavers release.
Yeah Empire State is decent for sure. It drops off quite a bit after that epic first track, but definitely was at least a solid 3/5 for me. I think I'm gonna throw this in now actually... it's actually better than Vast Aire's solo from last year.
Vast Aire is way cool. El-P is way cool just Fantastic Damage is overstuffed and it is obvious. I could see saying 'I'll Sleep When You're Dead' is a 5/5, but i wouldn't agree. more reasonable though.
FanDam was my first time
I've been listening to Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein recently, man that album is so great.
im not a big fan of el-p, his stuff just seems pretty average to me
dont make me bite ya face
it's not like i like the taste |
