Dig It (Let It Be - Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey)
Maggie Mae (Let It Be - Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey)
Those don't count, they're not even full SONGS.

DeusExMachina 11-08-2005 07:43 PM

Didn't Ringo get some credit for Flying from MMT as well? I thought they all got credits for that one.

John and Paul were pretty heavy handed about the songwriting of George and Ringo. They didn't let them have too much input.

robo2448 11-08-2005 08:16 PM

I was pretty sure that Paul wrote What Goes On but maybe Ringo helped.

Maggie Mae was an old traditional song from Liverpool that they knew when they were growing up.

And I think the whole band got writing credits on Flying.

Is mx breaking down for anyone else?

I agree about Ringo, as most of his songs were written by the others, but I would have to disagree on Geroge. He usually wrote 2-3 songs per album (not including pre-Rubber Soul), and had some great classics like Taxman (which I just found out that Paul plays the solo for) Here comes the Sun, While My Guitar Weeps and Something, the only #hit for the Beatles not written by Lennon/Mccartney.

He wrote a lot more than that. John and Paul put a "two song per record" quote on George. That's how he could release a 3 LP recording in 1970, immediately after the Beatles broke up. It was a bunch of songs he'd written before but hadn't had a chance to put on albums.

Yeah from around 65 or 66 till the breakup, George was writing nearly as much John and Paul.

Maybe not quite that much, but he was writing a ton of stuff. John and Paul often dismissed it without giving it a chance though. John and Paul wouldn't even take While My Guitar Gently Weeps seriously until George brought Clapton in. George was the coolest Beatle.

DeusExMachina 11-08-2005 09:20 PM

Word. George was definitely the coolest.

:D George is so awesome.

I wish I could still see him in concert :upset:

Leper 11-09-2005 12:24 AM

Nuh-Uh, John was the coolest!....No, you guys are right, George was the coolest. John's still my favourite though.:)

blue3 11-09-2005 02:22 AM

George is awesome. John is too. They all are.

I saw this Beatles show today. I think it was called 'A Long and Winding Road part 5' or something. Anyone seen it?

Leper 11-10-2005 12:47 AM

It sounds familiar...I think I might've seen some of it before. Speaking of Beatles shows, I really want to get the Anthology DVD's.

Man those Anthology DVD'd rock. I got them and have watched them numerous times. They go so indepth, it's just to bad that John couldn't be in it with them.

Here, at long last:
I transcribed the chords/lyrics from the Beatles Ukulele site into right-handed chords and lyrics:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/WalrusGumboot/Something10001.jpg
[sic] on the Cb chords, because isn't Cb just B?

EDIT: Ach, it's really tiny

Is that the one McCartney plays on Concert For George?

EDIT: Also, thanks for the album :)

I think it's in a different key
Originally I thought it was a C chord with the 3rd fret going to 2 and then to one (Uke players might understand this), but I can't find the music for a version like that. I shall keep searching, none the less

Also, No problem :)

DeusExMachina 11-10-2005 09:22 PM

Yowza. You have really neat handwriting. Thanks!

magicbus 11-11-2005 06:20 PM

I just learned Something. This song has a very cool guitar solo. Score one for George!

Maybe we could sucker Lunch into doing it

DeusExMachina 11-11-2005 10:55 PM

Are we recording a cover of Something? Interesting.

I can play it on guitar, but can't sing or drum for it. But, I have the recording software to put it all together.

blue3 11-12-2005 02:34 AM

Something's a great song. I can only play guitar and bass, but that's already taken. So yeah, can't wait to hear the cover.

Blackbird 11-12-2005 08:23 AM

To be honest i prefer the acoustic 'Something' from Anthology 3.

Such a beautiful song, way before its time.

The anthology version could be released today and i reckon people would think it's an acoustic cover.

Imagine

I was with my grandpa yesterday and a song came on his cd played called Imagine. Then I listened to the words and they were the exact same as lennon's. And then my pup told me that John Lennon did not write "Imagine". That sort of upset me becaue thats my favortie Lennon song. I do love Lennons version of it, its alot better. Just thought Id let people know that Imagine was a 50s song that Lennon didnt write, he just covers it.

I think your grandpa is wrong.

Foo Player 11-12-2005 07:08 PM

That song "blackbird" is quite relaxing

hmm I dunno. I think that Imagine is a song that John wrote. As good of a song as it is, I think it is a little over-rated. IMO, I always thought that #9 dream off "Walls and Bridges" was a beter song.

DeusExMachina 11-12-2005 09:13 PM

For me, Watching The Wheels is definitely near or at the top of the list in terms of John's best songs.

Yep. Good to see another Watching the Wheels fan. What an overlooked song. Double Fantasy is a great album excluding Yoko's songs. (Just Like) Starting Over and Beautiful Boy are great too.

DeusExMachina 11-12-2005 09:22 PM

Most definitely. Although ATMP is still better than any solo Beatles album I've heard.
