Well, you made some good points, but your claim about the commmunity's views are flaud: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=63415

Sup Jason, you get that video ok?
I am talking about the community of cs 1.6 and back, not the source community.

Alot of the players I have seen on Source have never played 1.6 and older CS. Old players of the old community of CS do not like the game and prefer 1.6 over that any day.

And also CAL is trying to kill off 1.6 by slowly removing some of the Leagues as they just have recently taken out CAl-IM and CAl-I from CS 1.6.

Clans are not happy of that decision.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-23-2005 02:03 AM
No, the physics for CS:S are totally messed up, and that is one of the reasonings to why it is not even CS any more.

For one, it is much harder to see where your spray goes with your guns, and there is hardly any recoil on the guns to the point you can run and spray and get constant head shots. Noob city right there. Also the gun models do look better, but they look way to close to your face forcing them to look fat and bulky.

Also, the hit boxes are totally screwed up. I have seen people shoot directly at some ones feet and get a head shot...

Scouts can now get a one hit kill if shot in the chest, that is not right and is almost a cheap AWP 2nd round.

The character modeling is horrible, who ever did it deserves to be hit in the face with a shovel. And the maps look to surreal and fake even though they meant to make them look more realistic with the new engine.. Also they changed the maps quite a bit and took away quite alot of cover spots on maps. Also the maps seem quite a bit smaller then they originally were.

Another thing, shooting through walls/boxes/corners are almost ineffective now to the point of doing hardly any damage.

Flashes need to be worked out big time, they are over powered to the point of lameness. Grenades are almost pointless now as they do not go through walls like on CS and various other objects and has a smaller radius.

The game play is alot slower, character movements is slower which leads to a slow overall game play. 1.6 and older is fast and intense almost all the time.

this game will never reach the glory that 1.6 and older has reached.

Edit : And the Stopsound command is now an illegal command that can only be used when sv_cheats is set to be on, which is absurd to how loud the ambient noise is in that game.

Also foot steps are all to quiet, and I am not the only one to complain of this. Foot steps is a HUGE part of CS and I plan out how I go about things by where I hear sounds. I cannot do that on CS:S even with the sound cranked and head phones on and cranked as well. With those head phones on, I can barely hear foot steps of my own team mates 3 feet behind me, not good at all, my foot steps drag to much as well making that the only thing I can hear as well.
I've heard this from one of my friends, and i hope this keeps people playing 1.6 and original dod, because i don't and won't have a capable pc anytime soon. That new scout sounds awful. That gun used to take skill.

Although I guess Valve will phase 1.6 etc out eventually :(

ArcLite 03-23-2005 02:05 AM

Well, I've played CS from it's first official release and I've played DoD since it was a beta. I'm one of these players of the old days you describe, yet our views differ. I guess it's just what you prioritize in your gaming experience. See, most of the things you said, while I agree with many, don't bother me enough. I prioritize better graphics and physics (IMO) over the problems you described. So, point to be made is it all comes down to personal preference, whether your a new player or relics like us.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-23-2005 02:08 AM

True, and they could well fix those things in the future.

I am a competitor, I compete in the leagues, and all of those make HUGE difference in league play. Graphics does not always make the game, the gameplay is what makes it or a balance of both. If it looks pretty, but plays like shit, why is it worth the bother?

And also the graphics thing is another arguement that I saw reading that forum.
Well, from hearing everyones response to my question. 1.6 sounds as if the game play is more appealing to other people, and all I've heard so far about Source is just "I can't play 1.6 because my eyes hurt from looking at it."
Not a valid reasoning to why CS sucks or why CS:Source is better I do believe. Their arguments suck to the whole graphics thing, but I have already stated they look to surreal and fake.

And seriously CS:S is full of "noobs" that can own it up with that piss poor phsyics and game play. My friend Kate, whom absolutely sucks in CS can own it up in CS:S with like 30-X scores easily now.

ArcLite 03-23-2005 02:24 AM

Well, I really can't argue with you. Personally, my scores are about the same between CS:S and 1.6, so I can't complain about gameplay changes affecting my pwnage. But, once again, this is simply a "to each his own" issue.

I can own in CS:S as well, but the randomness factor of the physics = gets easily killed by noobs.

There is all to many things wrong with that game, it sucks in my humble opinion, I only play it to play with a few of my friends since they are always nagging me.

ArcLite 03-23-2005 02:35 AM

Well, this weekend maybe I'll play some 1.6 with you. I'll have a "throwback" day. We should hit up some more DoD too.

I haven't been playing much of any thing lately, I have cut down my time of playing big time and have not had much interests in playing any of them as well.

ArcLite 03-23-2005 02:47 AM

Yeah, I get that too. I won't feel like playing at all for a matter of weeks. Then all the sudden I want to play again.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 03:53 AM

Preferred Team: T or CT?

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 03:55 AM

oh yeah, bobo man u ****ing owned dargon yesterday or whenever it was, well done man:thumb:

ArcLite 03-23-2005 03:59 AM

CT on all maps except Office, which I can go either way on.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:03 AM

yeah i like CT more, they own on assault

ArcLite 03-23-2005 04:06 AM

I don't really choose CT because of any advantages they have on maps, but rather because of the M4A1, which is my pwn-stick of choice.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:06 AM

im getting MGS 3 for PS2 on saturday, cant wait:D

ArcLite 03-23-2005 04:07 AM

Nice. I think I might go pick up Brothers In Arms this weekend.

Yeah....right...nothing beats DE  .

Deemed the spray n' pray rifle.

I prefer the ak-47, and awp and I usually hit auto-assign.

I was god with the ak-47 in 1.5...

And if you play alot of deagle maps, and play only with your deagle, you can get quite good and get alot of one shot kills with that gun. Tis not to be underestimated.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:14 AM

i own cs_deagle when i go to internet cafes

ArcLite 03-23-2005 04:18 AM

DE is quite good, but I wouldn't go as far as saying nothing beats it. M4, spray and pray not. Maybe for some but I'm quite effective with it using it like an AK, 3-4 round bursts. Dammit Jason, do you have to rip me apart for everything I say tonight:)? Well, you just let me know when your supposed owning ass feels like playing again. We shall see who the true owner is...

/was CAL-M skilled back in 1.5

/quit for a year

/lost all that skill

And did I say you sprayed and prayed with it? No. I am saying it has been deemed the spray and pray weapon because it is by far the easiest rifle to use. Back in 1.5 I knew how to spray with the ak and take down groups of people with just head shots, it was leet.

And true skill is shown during scrims, not pubs. :p

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:21 AM

chris, what other first person shooters do you play?

ArcLite 03-23-2005 04:23 AM

CS:S and DoD are the only ones I play online, with a little bit of Call of Duty here and there. As far as single player goes I've played pretty much every damn FPS there is. I can't get enough of them.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:27 AM

i play CS 1.6 and Battlefield 1942 on a LAN, and various others on PC and PS2. Im also a huge fan of sport games, especially rugby union and cricket games

ArcLite 03-23-2005 04:30 AM

Have you seen the previews for Battlefield 2? Looks much better than the current one. Check it out at gamespot.com, they have a video and a bunch of screens. It's no longer WW2 action, the new one is modern day stuff.

opeth_oasis 03-23-2005 04:30 AM

you ever played iron storm?
