Yeah, Deicide being the prime example.

I tried to be a vegetarian for lent...it didn't work.
|
I never define it by the lyrics or imagery. Mostly because I can't be bothered to find out what they're saying.
|
Well, Immolation is as blunt. "Chained to God" and "Burn With Jesus" being some sample titles.

Be a post-modern vegetarian, and eat meat ironically. |

Good. The styles are different musically more than they are lyrically. |

I think I saw that on a bumper sticker somewhere. |

I want that bumper sticker. |
i feel for ya Iai.
i'm going through abit of a dark patch in time at the mo. there is a girl i really like, i REALLY like her. everything about her is just amazing. we talk for hours about music, photography. we are very similar people, and like very similar things, it's quite surreal. thing is, i've been falling for her for quite some time now, but i know that she doesn't like me in that way at all. she sees me as like a 'brother' or something along those lines. she always says about how she will never be with anyone because she says she can never settle for less, and never could. this in mind, i knew she wouldn't like me in 'that' way. she also doesn't seem to believe in love, what it is, or anything about it. she believes it's fake, and that people settle for less all the time, just for the sake of a traditional modern family. i see the logic in this, but still i think there is such a thing as love. this is quite true in a sense, and really puts me off talking to her sometimes. lately, she seems to be avoiding talking to me alot, as people have been asking us both if we're together. she's a very shy person, and this i'm sure embarasses her when people ask, and probably annoys too. we just spend alot of time together, but as friends. but...i like her more than a friend, and i know nothing could ever come between us, because it's not what she wants, but i just can't get over her charm. i don't know what to do with myself, i find myself thinking about her all time, wanting to talk to her all the time. would the friendship be a lie if i wanted more than a friendship? i know i can't tell her any of this, because she probably wouldn't speak to me again. gah, i hate 'love' |
Ouch, when a girl you like calls you her brother, lame++
|
she didn't call me her brother, or say "you're like a brother to me".
just that's what the situation feels like. |
Yeah, thats what I meant.
Crappy |
Sorry to interrupt, but is anyone here remotely knowledgeable in theremins? Preferably outside of naming bands who use/d them, though feel free to name some anyway.
|
My Dad is making me one actually. Unfortunatly I don't really know anything abotu them, but I suppose I will when he finishes it.
|
My housemate got one for christmas. What do you want to know about them?
|
My Music Tech teacher has one, and he's going to lend it to me for my coursework.
We're all linked to the International Theremin Highway somehow. |

Just why the vagaries in price, really. For example, you go to sites like www.thereminworld.com, and a "beginner's pre-assembled theremin" is linked to for $300+, but then on eBay there are dozens for >£50. So I'm just wondering what's going on. |
Does anyone know why LordDargon keeps coming into Alt/Indie? He obviously doesn't like any of the music discussed within.
He comes in here? That's brilliant!!! Morbid Angel are anti-christian too aren't they? |
Typing on a laptop sucks.
He comes in here? That's brilliant!!!
Morbid Angel are anti-christian too aren't they?
I've only heard three of their albums, but not as far as I can tell. They may have some anti-Christian/anti-religion songs, but overall their lyrics are inspired much more by Lovecraft, fantasy and ancient civilisations (particularly Sumer/ia - some of the lyrics to one of their albums are in Sumerian). |
Typing on a laptop sucks.
That it does. I managed with one for three years or so though, so I'm sure you can make do for a while. Why are you on a laptop? |

I'm not actually very knowledgeable on theremins myself. I know my housemate's is fairly cheap though and it's nothing compared to some of the more 'professional' i've heard so I would guess that there's a fairly large quality range depending on price. |

You get used to it. You know Birdcage Man? I drew that on a laptop's little "ThinkPad." It's not the same as a mouse, but I clearly learned to adapt. And I'm left-handed, using the mouse/thinkpad with my right hand. That's quite an endeavour, as you could imagine. And to Bartender: The Flaming Lips used a theremin on their cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on Austin City Limits. Coyne handled it well. |

Well I own a photo theremin that costs roughly 100 dollars (don't know the exchange rate) and instead of a normal theremin it changes pitch and frequency by light, so you can play it with say a flashlight. It was worthwhile buy to make lots of noise but it's not really possible to "play" one unless you have a good ear for pitch. Here's the site which has a couple of song clips if you're interested. :) http://208.56.217.134/theremin.html Oh and for a quality attena theremin, $300 sounds just about right. You can get a moog one for that cost. |

I came home for the weekend from school so I could work on some projects that are due soon. Next year, Massachusetts State colleges are implementing a plan where every campus will be wireless and every student at a state college has to own a laptop. I don't why I can't just get a wireless PC Internet card for my PC. So I'm going to have to use one all the time. Dolts. |
Thanks, WRM (and other thereminny people) :)
