Kaiwaz 05-13-2007 03:00 PM

hmm, I'm gonna definitely go with Zebra on this, get Wish You Were Here before anything. Shine On You Crazy Diamond tracks are epic, the entire album is great.

samariah 05-13-2007 03:04 PM

ok cool

New revelation: Animals is their best album.

rockinbass17 05-13-2007 08:00 PM

Back to the Brave New World discussion, I would recommend reading either 1984 or Farenheit 451 first. If you are disinterested with the concept, BNW is probably a poor choice. Pick up The Doors of Perception, which is what I was initially referring to.

/back to Floyd
Animals is my favorite post-Dark Side album.
New revelation: Animals is their best album.
agreed.

but i think dark side is the first one you should get always.

but really just get all of them except momentary lapse, division bell, and you dont have to get final cut, you can though. i personally dont like final cut that much. but other than that theyre all good.

favorite song of theirs at the moment: cymbaline

MattSharpIsCool 05-13-2007 08:14 PM

Wish You Were Here is a very overrated album.

I still enjoy it, but I definitely don't understand why so many people think it's their best. Shine On is an awesome song, but the other three songs on the album are nothing spectacular.

buster_the_dinosaur 05-13-2007 08:24 PM

i beg to differ. welcome to the machine is a real cool song. i really like of the songs really. but i suppose its a matter of opinion.

Montana 05-13-2007 08:32 PM

I think the album as a whole is amazing. "Shine On..." sandwiches three incredible tracks.

Was just reading a bit on that album in Wikipedia:
Barrett hadn't been seen by any of the band members in five years. He arrived unannounced, his head completely devoid of hair (including eyebrows, as alluded to in The Wall film) and had put on so much weight that most of the band did not recognise him at first. Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley (who was a guest at Gilmour's wedding reception) mistook him for a Hare Krishna devotee.
Sad, but still sort of funny.

Agreed. It's all a matter of opinion. With that in mind, I also think when it comes to a favorite album, especially by Pink Floyd, I'd have to say it all depends on what you like and how it helped/magnified certian things in life that you were going through at a particular time within a "phase". Reflecting back on those memories always brings back certain albums, songs, artists, etc etc. For me, Wish You Were Here was it. It holds a special place in my mind that will never be replaced. :)

Couldn't agree more. "You can take a picture of new york and one person looking at will think it looks really depressing, frightening and someone else will look at it and think of all the fun things you can do in new york. I think songs are kind of like that."

you guys have all probably seen this but I watched it for the first time just now:

MattSharpIsCool 05-13-2007 08:50 PM

I guess I just really enjoy how Darkside and The Wall are like one long cohesive song, whereas WYWH is just a collection of pop songs. There's nothing wrong with that, and like I said, I do like the album. To me, it just doesn't stand out like some of their others.

Kaiwaz 05-13-2007 08:59 PM

I really enjoyed Dark Side Of The Moon when I was growing up, I don't know what intriqued me so much about Pink Floyd, everyone else in 7th grade was listening to Black Sabbath, Slayer, Prong etc. So yeah, I got a LOT of **** in school because of Dark Side Of The Moon, before it was whored on the radio. I didn't care though. I just got really burned out on it after listening to it constantly for years, yet I still like it. On the other hand, The Wall is excellent. A lot of memories coincide along with that piece I won't deny it, good and bad memories from my youth buried in that album. Good stuff. :)

Apocalyptic Raids 05-13-2007 09:58 PM

Wish You Were Here is my favourite, with Dark Side of The Moon a close second. I don't particularly like The Wall.

buster_the_dinosaur 05-13-2007 11:52 PM

the wall is definitely different from the others as far as content. ive heard a lot of pink floyd fans say they didnt like the wall. i do though, i think its pretty good.

has anyone here listened to the pros and cons of hitchhiking album by roger waters? that ones pretty good too.

MattSharpIsCool 05-14-2007 12:02 AM

I'm not really a huge fan of Roger's solo stuff.

Which is a little strange because I really enjoy The Final Cut, and that's pretty much a Roger solo album.

The NPC 05-14-2007 12:11 AM

I still think The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was their best album.

Meddle and Ummagumma are also favorites of mine.

Collis 05-14-2007 08:10 AM

I'd probably go with the masses and say that Dark Side is my favorite album, it is one of those records that I could listen to in any mood or for any amount of times, and still be astounded after Eclipse has finished, everytime. Animals is probably my second favorite ...
I still think The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was their best album.
I won't totally agree with that, but it's definately in my top 3, most people that I know didn't think that that was actually pink floyd(they only have heard dsotm, and wuwh) yeah but the wall will always be my favourite

Leper 05-14-2007 12:36 PM

Meddle, Darkside and Animals are all too close to call as my favourite. After those three I'd say WYWH and OBC come next.

morrison357 05-14-2007 08:30 PM

Yeah, same for me leper. Those 3 albums are definately their 3 best IMO. WYWH is also a close fourth place. Pipers and Saucerful of Secrets are also early gems for Floyd.

Leper 05-14-2007 10:09 PM

I would absolutely love Piper and SOS if they were a little more consistent. The good songs on those albums are definitely some of their best work.

last_few_bricks 05-15-2007 09:59 AM

did you like the division bell?

Aakon_Keetreh 05-15-2007 10:10 AM

I didnt too much :\

Jude 05-15-2007 10:15 AM

Division Bell sounds to me like Pink Floyd imitating its own 70s sound, but not as good. Which I think is what it is.

Kage 05-15-2007 10:16 AM

That's what old bands do, unless they're King Crimson.

rippa32 05-16-2007 07:53 AM

As much as I love The Wall and Animals after listening to them I feel as though I've just watched a really deep movie so even though they are favourites they don't get played all that often.

last_few_bricks 05-16-2007 09:47 AM

yeah I know that feeling, but I could never describe it to my friends, it's really deep
