basically for us when your 16 you take GCSEs, which you do in year 11 and that's the last year of compulsary education.

after that you can go to collage/sixth form to take A levels etc
then onto uni or whatever

That's basically the same as here but you don't switch schools to take Highers - you just stay at the highschool you're at.
