its nothing new but they are very good at what they do

hismajestythepope 09-30-2008 09:48 PM
the new song is decent, it's nothing I haven't heard a lot before in terms of soloing
Definitely not deathcore, its death/thrash
the new stuff isnt death metal or thrash at all

that new song is terrible, i cannot believe that for the most part this new album is just bury your dead, so disappointing. The last 5 songs are real good though, seems to be a trend for metalcore albums this year.

adb 09-30-2008 10:25 PM

I wasn't talking about fag BMTH u fag

hismajestythepope 09-30-2008 10:29 PM

i agree the bury your dead breakdowns are really annoying

Pebster49 10-01-2008 03:06 AM

there are a few songs they have that make it work, none on the new album though

Dimmu Burger 10-01-2008 06:53 AM
i agree bury your dead are shit!
fix'd

hismajestythepope 10-01-2008 08:33 AM

well thats common knowledge

botb 10-01-2008 02:20 PM

I know their vocalist =D he's ****ing sweet. the fact of him being an awesome dude (though kinda sketchy at times) doesn't save them from being obnoxious in any sense though

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 06:58 AM

So I saw Whitechapel and The Acacia Strain last night. Here's my quick opinions:

Whitechapel were very loud. I forgot that they have 3 guitarists, which is kinda overkill in my opinion. I felt horrible for the sound guy, cause he had 3 super loud guitarists on stage that he had to mix together and it just all sounded like a noisy mess. It wasn't bad enough that I didn't enjoy them, but it was a little odd. They were fun to watch though and the crowd really got into it. It's cool to see how big a following all these bands are getting, cause a lot of people sang a long to Whitechapel songs, which I found amusing.

The Acacia Strain are down to one guitarist now, after having 3 guitarists two albums ago when I last saw them. They sounded freakin amazing, especially after Whitechapel. They played a lot of songs that I knew and had way more catchy parts than Whitechapel, which fueled a debate that I'll get back to. It was also fun to watch their guitarist, who is totally thuggin, dance around the stage like Master P or something. The vocalist made a few statements saying something like "People should come here for the music, not to put on a fashion show or to take pictures for their myspace page." They all played very well and I enjoyed them a lot.

Now the debate that I had with my brother's scenester "girlfriend" or whatever she is: I told her that The Acacia Strain aren't all that different from Whitechapel and she all but b*tched me out over this. I said that they both have really low tuned guitars, lots of juns and low growly vocals. Their overall sound isn't all that much different, The Acacia Strain just tends to write more of a variety of songs and parts within their songs (for a deathcore band). She said that they aren't remotely alike and Whitechapel is ridiculously better and prettymuch implied that I'm a complete retard for thinking otherwise. I found this entertaining, cause she is like 17 and thinks she knows everything about the world and music, cause she used to do promotions for Victory Records. Ah well, there was no swaying her, even though tAS were way better live as well as on their recordings. I thought that I'd come to you guys to see if I was completely and utterly wrong. Any opinions?

neonskies 10-02-2008 09:09 AM

I'm listening to TAS right now actually, haha. I'm seeing them in December so I'm glad that they're fun live.

As far as the debate goes - I'm not an expert on things like this, but in my opinion it'd be really hard to justify that Whitechapel and TAS aren't similar. I see no reason why they can't be grouped together. I mean musically they'd have differences, like you said TAS is more varied, but I'd be a bit worried if all bands within one genre sounded identical. Of course, which band is "better" is really a matter of opinion.

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 09:34 AM

Yeah they're definitely fun to watch. Who do you like better though, just out of curiosity.

neonskies 10-02-2008 09:42 AM

Out of TAS and Whitechapel? I like both, but I'm overall much more familiar with Whitechapel. The first album I heard by TAS was Continents when that leaked, and for whatever reason it didn't really stick with me. Now I'm really liking 3750 and The Dead Walk.

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 09:55 AM

Yeah I got into them when 3750 came out. I was looking into anything that was produced by Adam D and came across it. I listened to it a lot, like every few days. The Dead Walk is really good as well.

beans 10-02-2008 12:12 PM

i really like the dead walk, i still haven't heard 3750 or their new one yet

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:21 PM

Both are good, I recommend them.

beans 10-02-2008 12:24 PM

then i shall take a listen to them
how ya been dan?

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:32 PM

Good man, quite happy cause last night was a lot of fun, in case you didn't read my write ups about it a few pages ago and in the PtH thread.

beans 10-02-2008 12:33 PM

yeah i read them, sounded like a good night, i wish that tour was stopping by in oregon, but nooooooooooooo

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:47 PM

That's what you get for living in Oregon! lol

beans 10-02-2008 12:48 PM

no ****, we get some ok bills here and there but its so inconsistent

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:49 PM

You have the Trailblazers though!

beans 10-02-2008 12:51 PM

i dont follow basketball or else i would probably care. lol

rid 10-02-2008 12:51 PM

Similar sound, sure. Similar songs, not so much. I agree with you though. She's a retard, no offense. :p

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:51 PM

bunit: I used to. You used to have a lot of good people back in the day. Ah well.
Similar sound, sure. Similar songs, not so much. I agree with you though. She's a retard, no offense. :p
Yeah I thought so. In some ways she likes good music, like Architects and Protest The Hero but she's just a brat sometimes too.

beans 10-02-2008 12:54 PM

sounds like a brat to me

Dimmu Burger 10-02-2008 12:55 PM

scenester kids! meh!

beans 10-02-2008 12:56 PM

...ugh...

beans 10-02-2008 04:19 PM

the new bring me the horizon is a considerable step up from the last album, still a little repetetive and samey in areas. want to write a review for it but there's already like 5

edit: **** it who cares

botb 10-02-2008 05:15 PM
Any opinions?
your brother's "girlfriend" is retarded.

but yeah, scene elitists = instant lol.
i've seen whitechapel live... they were good, but i wanna see tas live as they are ****ing sick and i adore the new album.

beans 10-02-2008 05:18 PM

they have a pretty good live show for just a bunch of juns

jrowa001 10-02-2008 05:21 PM

a scenester kid told me that i was narrow minded for thinking BMtH sucks. damn i never knew i was so narrow minded

beans 10-02-2008 05:22 PM

youre so narrow minded i cant talk to you anymore

so there

botb 10-02-2008 05:23 PM
a scenester kid told me that i was narrow minded for thinking BMtH sucks. damn i never knew i was so narrow minded
lol. i mean i love scene girls just as much as the next younger generation metal head (they are so easy and some of them are stupid hot) but elitist scene girls? no wai man.

encmetalhead 10-02-2008 07:21 PM
cause she is like 17 and thinks she knows everything about the world and music, cause she used to do promotions for Victory Records.
How can she be 17 but already done promotions? lol

jrowa001 10-02-2008 07:27 PM

thats not very rare actually. there were a few 16-18 year olds helping promote for Solid State when i went to a becoming the Archetype show.

adb 10-02-2008 07:48 PM

where did you see BTA?

jrowa001 10-02-2008 07:53 PM

i cant remember where it was at but it was a 2 or 3 years ago when they were on tour with Demon Hunter and August Burns Red (i think). BTA were the only band i went so see anyway

adb 10-02-2008 07:55 PM

ahh, that was the Glasshouse, I went to that show. BTA owned, so did ABR. DH was unfortunately my favorite band back then, so yeah.

jrowa001 10-02-2008 08:24 PM

cool so we were at a show together once haha. yeah i remember it was the glasshouse now. my memory sucks. as much as i dont like ABR on album, they were decent that night. i liked DH back then as well but i wasnt that impressed with their live show anyway. BtA did indeed own. i want to see them again so bad whenever they come out here again

adb 10-02-2008 08:36 PM

I saw they back in May at Chain Reaction, they were one of the best bands I've seen live, just amazing. They were really funny in between songs too.
I'm hoping they come back soon, but I'm not expecting it. They just don't get enough of an audience to tour the west coast.
