What are peoples thoughts on the A Earth Ride?

I'm looking for a pingy ride to cut through in metal bands. What are some other possible rides.

Cheers

Earth Rides are pingy as hell. Theres very little wash. I never played mine with a band though.

Seafroggys 03-08-2008 05:43 PM

Okay so I guess I lied about getting a new ride.

While recording my album I tried wooden tipped sticks with a big tip, and yeah the ride records MUCH nicer!

I recomend 21" Platinum Rock Ride if you can get one

oliv_da_skinmasher 03-08-2008 06:22 PM

Quite a big if. They aint exactly around much

Aaron 03-08-2008 09:09 PM

22" K Heavy.

crazyguy832 03-08-2008 09:28 PM

Earth rides are great secondary rides, not primary imo. That being said, I know a band where the drummer used an earth ride as his only ride and it sounded great recorded.

Aaron 03-08-2008 11:47 PM

JoJo Mayer's 21" Fierce Ride is worth looking into for ping.

Tim 03-09-2008 04:29 AM

mmmm jojo fierce ride. i think im going to get one with my tax return =]

Tim 03-13-2008 06:25 PM

nope instead i just ordered a pair of HHX groove hats. =]

Tim 03-25-2008 03:24 PM

looking for a china thats high volume, and trashy. 20 inch preferrably. i want something similar to the pasite signature heavy china but 340 is way to much. wuhan is an option but i realy dont think they have the vollume i need.

crazyguy832 03-25-2008 06:46 PM

20" Z Custom.

20" A Custom.

20" AAX.

20" AA.

20" HHX.

All REALLY nice chinas. Out of the bunch, I'd personally reccomend the Z Custom or AA.

Tim 03-25-2008 07:02 PM

i own the 18 AA and i like it but i think i need something a bit punchier. i might have to go for the AAXtreme but in a 19 or something.

fishbulb 03-25-2008 08:09 PM

Paragon chinas are nice but i'm not sure how trashy they are and they're essentially more expensive Wuhans with Neil Peart's name on them.

oliv_da_skinmasher 03-26-2008 09:14 AM

The 19" one is yeah. But I do believe the 20" one is totally different. Could be wrong tho

bobby__johnny 03-26-2008 09:33 AM

i'm looking at a new china sooner or later.

not sure if i wanna stick with the trusty 18" AA or AAX, or if i wanna try something different and get like a 19" AAXtreme.

...or save my money and get an 18" or 20" HHX.....

as for my other china, i have a 16" AA, and 18" Carmine Appice Sig (wanting to replace that)

oliv_da_skinmasher 03-26-2008 09:37 AM

Hhx

an_original_name 03-26-2008 09:48 AM

you cant go wrong with an 18" AAX.

bobby__johnny 03-26-2008 09:58 AM

aye. i'm trying to find one that mixes with my cymbals....but the catch is....my cymbals are a blend of bright and dark sounds

LoneStarDrummer 03-26-2008 09:58 AM

edit: to tim's post

i had read this yesterday and decided not to recommend the pargaon china simply because it doesn't really sound like the paiste sig heavy china.

i personally love my paragon chinas. they are one of the few cymbals i would buy again if all mine got destroyed.

the 19" has a more trashy sound and is modeled after the wuhans that peart used to use. i personally think there is no comparison between a wuhan and paragon china. the paragon is much cleaner and articulate though still maintaining it's trashy sound.

the 20" is a more traditional gong-like china. very nice, but very different from the 19"

also i didn't recommend the 19" because tim was looking for a high volume one. the paragons are about standard volume chinas.

oliv_da_skinmasher 03-26-2008 10:01 AM

Paiste novo china

Imperial Star 04-09-2008 07:37 AM

I'm getting a 12" byzance splash, what would be a good combo with this for hi hats?

bobby__johnny 04-09-2008 11:30 AM

get hats to match your ride. not your splash

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-09-2008 11:31 AM

No he means another splash to make hi hats with lol

Bernie812 04-09-2008 01:24 PM

I'm interested in some cymbals that go along good with laid back jam music. Much to the likings of Jack Johnson, or Animal Liberation Orchestra. Some crashes that don't require heavy hitting to provide quality smooth, warm sounds. I noticed ALOs drummer uses istanbuls, but I have no idea what make. Do they make good hi-hats?

Tim 04-09-2008 04:19 PM

hhx groove or stage hats would make great pair for that. AAX stage crashes dont require a beating either.

Little Android Man 04-09-2008 04:22 PM
hhx groove or stage hats would make great pair for that. AAX stage crashes dont require a beating either.
AAX are bright though, no? He wants something warmer.

Bernie812 04-09-2008 05:40 PM

something warmer yes. I have some A custom hats right now which are to bright for my likes, I would like warmer, maybe a little washy hats. I don't even know what I want in a ride, so I'm going to try and make it to a GC this month and see what I like.

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-09-2008 05:50 PM

-Paiste Traditionals Medium Light Hats, a soft pronounced stick sound with a warm n meaty chick sound

-Paiste Twenty Medium Light Hats, They do only come in 16" size but they do have a warm and mellow stick sound and a deep chick. A longer sustain than normal due to their size but nice overall

Bernie812 04-09-2008 08:43 PM

I'll see if I can try those out when I got to GC. Thanks

fishbulb 04-09-2008 09:24 PM

GC's selection of cymbals in stock on the floor is not very good (especially for Paistes) so more than likely you won't even see those cymbals.

Bernie812 04-10-2008 07:21 AM

Crud, where could I hear what these cymbals sound like?

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-10-2008 07:21 AM

Shame. Both good hats

ant_182 04-10-2008 11:18 AM

Right I'm going to treat myself to a new ride. I'm just stuck on what to get. I have a platinum ride, and an a sweet ride. I am definately keeping the platinum. I am loooking into the 22" A Custom Rides. I'll probably crashride it and I'd like it fairly bright. Any others I should look at? I would prefer to stay with Zildjian as I'm really familiar with their products and I can get them easier. I'll probably try some out in a couple of weeks :) Just want to get an idea. I've tried a 20" 2002 ride and that was lovely(use it for drum lessons. But it isn't the sound I'm after :) Cheers in advane

Lostandfound2 04-11-2008 07:26 AM

something that is warm and explosive that i can ride the crap out of it without it breaking in 6 months

Lostandfound2 04-11-2008 07:27 AM

not a crash ride though

ant_182 04-11-2008 10:40 AM

nothing should break in 6months if you have the right technique...?

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-11-2008 12:41 PM

This^
