the ragtime/western saloon piano part in dance of eternity is probably the best part
I can agree with that.

KK2K5 02-18-2006 07:37 PM

the best bit is all of it up until the end of the ragtime solo

Jev 02-18-2006 07:46 PM

Man I can't wait for my DVD to get here already.
I'm having trouble sleeping (not 'cos of the DVD)
I think I might go sit by the letterbox.

zabbit82 02-18-2006 07:48 PM
The scratching record at the end of SFAM is the intro to The Glass Prison and the intro to As I Am is the last chord of 6DOIT(or so I'm told, haven't listened to it for ages) and the last piano note in In The Name of God is the opening Piano note in The Root of All Evil.
I noticed that too. But Octavarium ends like the intro to The Root of All Evil. Wierd...

I love to play along with The Root Of All Evil on guitar. Fun stuff...

GenuineImitation 02-18-2006 11:05 PM
I got mine off of Limewire at surprisingly fast speeds.
I could do that also, but I like buying the actual cd.

Maybe the next album will start with the same note then. Maybe it'll be the next step in the 12 steps thing. Or maybe they won't because they're bored of it.

Lord Abortion 02-19-2006 12:48 PM

I have all DT's easily available works now.

No YTSE cd's though, that's the next step!

TojesDolan 02-19-2006 12:51 PM

So... in which album is the piano-only version of Ytse jam?

Of course, I suppose it's by Jordan Rudess.

Same here.

Jev 02-19-2006 04:22 PM

Does anyone have the first Majesty CD/demo thing?
What's it like?

I was looking that a couple of hours ago. Apparently they cover Rush's "YYZ." Sweet.

Mr.Metalton 02-20-2006 01:28 AM

thats awesome

Shattered_Future 02-20-2006 01:49 AM

Man, listening to Dream Theater brings back...uuuhhhhh...

Well, reminds me of the fact that it's 3 AM. Stupid Petrucci with his unplayableness...

Gooooooooooooood **** though. Extremely good.

I hate it how he adds like 1 bar of shred to Another Day just to make it impossible for me to say "I can play Another Day".

bwnstl 02-20-2006 01:54 AM

To all those interested, I'm playing a Dream Theater artist feature on my college radio station tomorrow (Monday) at 6 PM, and it will last until 7:30 PM. Those times are US Central Standard. If you'd like to listen, visit http://marconi.kmnr.umr.edu/kmnr-web/ and click on the "listen live" in the upper right corner. Just add the file that it prompts you to download to your winamp playlist and you can listen!

Jev 02-20-2006 01:59 AM

Is it going to be recorded so people can listen later? That's at like 12AM for me.

I'm afraid not. :(

If I knew some way to record it I would, but I'm not that pro yet.

That's a shame. I'd love to hear it.

Lord Abortion 02-20-2006 10:42 AM

Anna Lee is a great song.

That's another bonus to FII.

Why aren't you staying up till 1:30? It's not THAT late. :)

Anyways, for anyone that cares, I'll be playing:

Learning to Live for I&W
Scarred for Awake
Peruvian Skies for FII
Dance of Eternity for SFAM
Solitary Shell for 6DIOT Disc 2
The Glass Prison for 6DOIT Disc 1
This Dying Soul for ToT
The Root of All Evil for 8V

In between each song I'll be explaining the history of the band and what they were up to between each album.

I would but the computer's in the kitchen. Right next to where my dad sleeps.

nowitzki 02-20-2006 12:08 PM

Your dad sleeps in the kitchen?

He sleeps in the Living room (long story) and I can't exactly hide in the cupboards. My house's walls are paper thin. You can hear everything in the next room.

Looks like a great list, except This Dying Soul for ToT. I might listen to it if I can remember to.

Lord Abortion 02-20-2006 03:10 PM

I can't find my copy of FII anywhere...
I have the box, and I was going to listen to it on my stereo, and It wasn't in't box!

Gah...I'm not happy.

Sorry, I know you're a fan of the ballads, but I prefer more of the heavier stuff.
Another factor that was more important, though, was time. I only have an hour and a half.

Oh, and I picked This Dying Soul because I wanted to finish off with the AA suite.

If any of you listen to it, post here and let me know what you think! I'm always open to some constructive criticism.

Nah. He'll make sure I'm gone to bed before it starts.

The bastard.

Lord Abortion 02-20-2006 04:31 PM

The use of solitary shell makes it all better :)

bwnstl 02-20-2006 05:21 PM

Oh god, that song is orgasmic.

nowitzki 02-20-2006 05:27 PM

My favourite part of 6DOIT is probably About To Crash (reprise) and Losing Time. The whole song is incredible though.

I prefer the middle section...From WIMH to solitary shell.

I like that section the best to.

NP: Dream Theater - Beyond this life

Lord Abortion 02-20-2006 05:39 PM

See, DT do that alot for me, hearing a live version makes me really appreciate the song.

The A mind beside itself versions on LSFNY got me into that bit.
The live versions of FII songs made that album more acessable to me
as did the LATB versions of the 6DOIT songs.

I really started to get those songs when I heard live versions

Shattered_Future 02-20-2006 05:42 PM

I did THE single greatest thing last night.

All of you who have A Change Of Seasons, and iTunes with the visualizer, put on the song, and then turn the visualizer on full screen. And just sit and watch it for the whole time the song is on.

It will make you appreciate the music so much more.

Woo, first post in the DT thread.

Ok, so here goes...

I've never been big on DT, I just can't force myself to like LaBrie's vocals. LTE is pretty good though admittedly the wankishness of both bands does edge on me after a lot of listening.

That said, I got my mom into DT awhile ago because I knew she'd like it, and she does, she has all their CDs now. So my parents decided to take the whole family (minus the little one because the show is 16+) to see DT live while I'm home for Spring Break. I love shows and I know I will enjoy it regardless, but for those who have been, what can I expect from it? WIll it be really good? What will they play (so I can d/l and familiarize myself a little better)? Any good or bad concert experiences with them? It's like 2+ hours of just them so it'll be quite the interesting show I hope.

I havent been to any of their shows yet (Im going April first), but I have a few live cds and DVD's.

I cant tell you what they most likely will play because they change the set list every concert. They usually close with Pull Me Under though.
