Or drumbeats.

Stoic 07-28-2006 12:35 PM

I dont like either Hammerfall or Edguy :-\

I always thought Hammerfall was extremely boring. I've never heard Edguy.
I always thought Hammerfall was extremely boring. I've never heard Edguy.
Alex's love about them made me give them a decent chance but they would always strike me as too cheesy and more hard rock-ish than power-ish

Stormrider 07-28-2006 01:35 PM

Edguy I liked a lot at first...but it kinda "piped down" with time. I still enjoy, them, I just don't listen to them as much.

I never really liked them, tbh. I tried, and I tried, but they just always seemed resoundingly meh-worthy to me.

Right now I've really been digging Thunderstone. Anyone listen to them?

Yes they definately have far too big a rock influence for my taste.

Steerpike 07-28-2006 02:06 PM

EDguy may not be the deepest, most multi-faceted metal in the world, but it's great to have a group that doesn't take themselves too seriously.

And say what you want, but The Piper Never Dies is a great song.

Nepenthe 07-28-2006 02:12 PM

I really think they should've picked a better spot on the album for The Piper though. RIGHT after the fastest song on the album was not a good choice.

Steerpike 07-28-2006 02:56 PM

Actually, the fastest song on the album would be more like Under the Moon.

Stormrider 07-28-2006 03:01 PM

I really like the Piper Never Dies aswell.

All those times I said I would buy Helfire Club...I still don't have it :-/
Went to buy it one day, but came out of the store with Sonic Firestorm...

Up The Irons 07-28-2006 03:53 PM

\m/ Pagan's Mind \m/

Stoic 07-28-2006 03:54 PM

^speaking of generic bands...:p

Sorry but never got the hype :-\

Stormrider 07-28-2006 03:56 PM

I havn't listened to them in a lonnnnng while...

Txus 07-28-2006 04:00 PM

I was a really big fan of Pagan's Mind and now I can't stand their sound.

and Edguy are soo good, they're one of my favorite PM bands ever.

Up The Irons 07-28-2006 04:03 PM

Well to be honest I don't listen to much power metal at all, but Pagan's Mind is a band I enjoy from time to time. Rhapsody is another fun band. I enjoy taking the occasional ride on a riverraft of cheese.

This is all definetely not coming from a power metal aficionado, though.

Fix'd.
EDguy may not be the deepest, most multi-faceted metal in the world, but it's great to have a group that doesn't take themselves too seriously.
Exactly. That's a big part of their awesomeness.

Stoic 07-29-2006 10:38 AM

It will take me ages to get used Rhapsody's new name :-pp

Stormrider 07-29-2006 10:40 AM

Well, it's not THAT bad, because if someone says Rhapsody here, we're all most likely to know that that person is talking about the band :p

Shattered_Future 07-29-2006 01:14 PM

True. I haven't bothered to rename any of their cds at all.

The one thing that bugs me about Pagan's Mind is their vocalist. He's irritating, even for prog metal.

Stoic 07-29-2006 01:22 PM

After listening to a few tracks off the latest Firewind I've come to the conlusion that Gus is over rated. His bands are horribly generic (the kind of heavy/power I despise) and all the hype is about him participating in a dozen of bands. Sure he's a good player with nice tone but nothing really special.

Stormrider 07-29-2006 01:27 PM

I like the Firewind songs I have. They're nothing amazing, but I still enjoy the songs.

And the Pagan's Mind singer never really bothered me...hmm, I'll listen to some more and see if he does now.

Stoic 07-29-2006 01:31 PM

They sound (Firewind and the likes) totally unispired to me. Yay, new band to hate :D

He's ruining the band (not that the music itself is something spectacular) for me as well Mikey.

Shattered_Future 07-29-2006 01:40 PM

Gus did a great job in Dream Evil though. Probably cause he didn't write any of the music.

I kinda like the music that Pagan's Mind puts out though. Just the damn vocalist is irritating as all hell.

Stormrider 07-29-2006 01:42 PM

I didn't really like the Dream Evil when I gave them a listen...

Shattered_Future 07-29-2006 01:45 PM

I love Dream Evil. They're one of those bands like Edguy that don't take themselves too seriously at all.

Why the **** did I say Evergrey earlier?

Iron Bars 07-29-2006 02:11 PM

Too bad their record company didn't want them to call themselves Dragonslayer. The name fits them so much better.

Shattered_Future 07-29-2006 02:12 PM

Yea, that's true...it's a crying shame.

Stoic 07-29-2006 04:32 PM

Slayer used to be named like this.

Synthetical 07-29-2006 11:26 PM

I really like Dream Evils older stuff...the new album (Book of Heavy Metal?) Doesnt thrill me that much. That one part in one of the songs on the album makes me wince when his "wife" screams "I am his wife, SHUTUP!". Yeah, pretty much ruined that song for me.

Steerpike 07-30-2006 12:02 AM

I've been trying to put together a few power metal songs centered around Urban Arcana. Slow-going at the moment. The lyrics seem to be the toughest part.

Have you heard the previous Firewind albums? Because I found the new one to be a load of shit, but I loved the other ones.

Gus is a very good lead player, a solid performer live, and a nice guy to meet. But, I'm sure he'd be better suited to be just the lead player, like in Dream Evil, than to write everything, like in Firewind.

shadow_stalker 07-30-2006 08:38 AM

well 2 months later Blind Guardian's nightfall in middle earth has finally grown on me, not sure if i will buy more blind guardian albums though.

im currently listening to some Firewind samples and might get an album by them, any suggestions as to which?

Txus 07-30-2006 09:14 AM

I bought Angra's album Temple Of Shadows a couple of days ago and I got to say it's really freaking good, nothing can touch Fireworks IMO but this one is really close.

Stoic 07-30-2006 09:23 AM

Temple of Shadows is awesome. The lead and the drum work is just incredible.

I have heard random songs off the 2nd and 3rd album as well but nothing really impressed me. Still they were much better than the songs I heard of their latest. I agree with your last statement :)

Stormrider 07-30-2006 10:53 AM

No Blind Guardian album sound the same. So, Shadow Stalker, if you weren't that impressed with NIME, you don't have to worry about getting an album that sounds really similiar.

Dude, that's what makes that song so special for me. :p

I love Spread Your Fire by Angra. Brilliant drumming and guitarwork.

Riva 07-30-2006 05:56 PM

No, the wife sings, "I am his wife" and he tells her to shut-up. It's quite a classic moment, I think. Dream Evil are like Edguy for grown-ups.

Angra is awesome.

BG is awesome.

Alex, those songs sound cool. I'd like to see the lyrics when you get done.

Lord Abortion 07-30-2006 06:00 PM

Yeah, that's part of what attracts one to the genre, the lack of total seriousness.

Steerpike 07-30-2006 06:19 PM
Alex, those songs sound cool. I'd like to see the lyrics when you get done.
I didn't know you were familiar with Urban Arcana
