liveevil 07-20-2005 11:59 PM

recently attended intonationfest so still kind of in an intonationy mood. the highlight albums that i've grown on are...

broken social scene - you forgot it in people
andrew bird - andrew bird and the mysterious production of eggs
ac newman - the slow wonder
xiu xiu - fabulous muscles
les savy fav - emor, rome upside down

the lattermost's studio music is hard to compare to their live show. it seriously was the greatest thing i've ever been to. if you ever get the oppurtunity, do not pass up going to a les savy fav show. you can't resist a chance to see a plump, bearded, balding, half-naked tim harrington dive down a slip n' slide through the audience. i've been checkin out this forum for a while. you guys know some great bands...

Glad this generated some serious discussion and criticism. Thanks.

masada 07-21-2005 01:06 AM

I think the band is rather bland and boring, and the singer sounds horrible most of the time, especially live. They just sound really weak, and his vocals are always high in the mix, which doesn't make sense to me.

asymm 07-21-2005 01:10 AM

There we go. Thanks for explaining your view now. It's always interesting to hear oppositional views to my own. I think the flair of them for me is most definitely Craig Finn's lyrical content and his aggressive approach to the music. As you pointed how the vocals being high in the mix, well I think that is something essential considering their importance to the overall sound. As I can see your point on being 'bland' and 'boring' but for me I find their take on traditional 'bar' rock extremely interesting with the conceptual meaning and purpose behind it, the contrasting vocals to instruments, and of course the addition of the keyboard really does it for me :)

New album should be out later this year.

According to them, "The songs are quite delicious... we will crash into the sun."

br3ad_man 07-21-2005 01:36 AM

Sounds good to me.

Happymeal 07-21-2005 08:13 AM

Anyone here familiar with Cloroform? It's Kaada's band, and they kinda sound like Bullfrog(Kid Koala's band)

Oh yeah, Autolux are catchy as hell

Some songs are outstanding. "Blan Bec" and "Le 65 isme" are the two stand outs for me.

I'm actually really liking that Magic Numbers album as well now.

Dog 07-22-2005 02:29 AM

I've been digging the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album, too. The first few listens that I gave it a couple of weeks ago didn't really fancy me, but I gave it another chance and now I really like it. Nothing spectacular, but a pretty solid album.
