I just got back from my cousin's wedding weekend. It was a 3 day extravaganza. Pretty good time.

FunkMetalBass 08-03-2009 04:18 PM

How is gun control still a heated issue in America? Good God, I'm so sick of hearing sh*t about it.

fatbandit 08-03-2009 05:03 PM

Hm. Maps and Atlases sound like Tera Melos. But I dont like them as much.

Mr. Pickle 08-03-2009 05:46 PM

I've been reading Harry Potter like mad.

At least by my standards.

Electric Requiem 08-03-2009 07:55 PM

I've been reading David Foster Wallace like mad.

Probably by anyone's standards :(
I hate Lateralus. Reeks of try-to-hard, more boring than even Aenima (and this is a druggy saying this so don't pull the psychedelic card bass forumers).
If you need drugs to like certian music, you don't actually like that music, you just like to "trip out" which is really lame.

I just read Consider The Lobster. Really want to read Infinite Jest.

funkyhoney 08-03-2009 08:54 PM

I'm reading Ubik at the moment...

That's why 99% of Tool listeners like Tool though, so...

Besides that though, I disagree (what's new). I like the Mars Volta sober, they're a good band (or at least Deloused is). But stoned it makes it SOOOO much better. I dunno if you're into them but for example the extended random noise **** in the middle of the song Cicatriz ESP is just like "whatever noise" when sober, but when high it gives at least me a whole new perspective on it. Makes me realize how much it ties the whole song together and gives me a different insight as to what emotions and feelings drive the song.

I mean, I'm normally against that hippy ideal that weed is like...a big deal (I haven't even smoked in months) but it's undeniable that being high and listening to music is a very different experience from listening to music sober. And tripping and listening to music is far more radical beyond that.

Oh, and Fatbandit, Maps and Atlases is like my second favorite band, and they slay Tera Melos a hundred times over. However, Tera Melos is a good band too. Ultimately, they're not even comparable though besides being math rock.
I just read Consider The Lobster. Really want to read Infinite Jest.
Plowed through Consider yesterday, I'm currently about 300 pages in to Infinite Jest.

Wallace is definitely my favorite author at the moment; it is a tragedy that he's gone.

nah. there are some songs i only really enjoy while i'm stoned, sure. but there is also music i only enjoy under other situations. i really only like to listen to ska in the summer ... do i really not like ska, but just like to rock out in the warm weather??

Moon Flavor 08-03-2009 10:57 PM

seriously, music is mad conditional foo

being high is no different from being in any given mood

well put dudely

Well it kind of is because it's artificially induced and all that.

Moon Flavor 08-03-2009 11:45 PM
Well it kind of is because it's artificially induced and all that.
artifically inducing a natural response. all weed does is triggers a certain release and reuptake of neurotransmitters that are already produced in your brain anyways just in different amounts

but besides that and more importantly, it's not really that different in this context because it still creates a change in the subjective viewpoint on a given song just like different moods do

funkyhoney 08-03-2009 11:47 PM

Yes... and you compare that to "any given mood" i.e. 'happy' or 'slightly annoyed', and have no qualms with that analysis?

Epidemechanical 08-03-2009 11:52 PM

i totally just did an all orchestral song

im so awesome

not really. i mean, emotions are just responses to certain chemical releases in your brain too....

it's not a perfectly legit across the board analogy but it's really close

close enough to not bother arguing about plz

Did you use Sibeleus?

I think I.... shall go for a run.

I knew it was a bad idea to have a bag of corn chips and plunger coffee for breakfast at 3 in the afternoon.

When you are asking me to please not argue with you about something you can almost guarantee that that topic in question is well worth arguing about, or is some kind of ill conceived platitude (no, not really I just wanted to put 'platitude' in a sentence today).

Man, do not watch pelham 123 - it's like they took an awesome idea and thought, "wow, how can we market this to a young audience?" and proceeded to fill it with comical camera work, over-stylise it and have a poorly chosen musical score. I mean how can "I've got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one" possibly be appropriate for a movie about the subway system?

Damn, it actually looked promising too - I was going to take my girl to see it next weekend!

Thanks for the heads up.

In other news, I'm debating between buying some Bartolini 6-string jazz pups and dropping them into my Carvin or selling the Carvin for $500 and calling it quits with the bass.

I love the way it plays, but I'm thinking I'd be happier if I got the 35" scale bass instead of the 34" scale.

Someone send me to a site I can spend all my time on. I have nothing to waste my day anymore, no idea why but for some reason my internet world is shrinking. Used to use maddox until he just lost it and I had read through all of the archives. Then explosm comics got a bit boring, then stumbleupon came to the rescue until it just throws up the same bullshit photo archives every other click.

So yeah - link me up to something to waste my time.

www.smbc-comics.com
www.xkcd.com
www.thebadchemicals.com

C&H aside, those have to be my three favorite comics.

I miss Maddox. I still read The Alphabet of Manliness from time to time.

You could always write and post lessons for MX or use Guitar Pro to write music.

Or, my other two favorites: Wikipedia and www.fmylife.com

karmapavementplan 08-04-2009 01:46 PM

Not talented or knowledgeable enough to write lessons or use guitar pro. XKCD is a little over my head most of the time tbh. Maddox got crappy when he decided to quit his job and live off tee-shirt sales.

Thanks for the links.
