Emo is a specific sounding form of music which developed after the 80's hardcore scene, Emo is short for Emotional Hardcore. There is no fashion to Emo. What you are thinking of is a recent trend in mis labeled music by the mainstreem society in order to make more money.

last time I checked I don't think anyone has claimed to be an "emo kid" on these boards? and if one were to claim such, they would most likely be refering to the fact that they listen to emo, therefor, they call themselves an emo kid. much like a lot of people that listen to hardcore or are part of the hardcore "scene" call themselves hardcore or scene kids
