So how's life going all? You know, I always wonder, why in the US you have to be 16 to drive (OK), 18 to handle a gun (completely nuts), and 21 to drink a freakin' beer (hilarious). Since we are international here...what are your thougths on that?
It differs for every state.

I don't have a problem with those laws because, save for driving, people break them anyway, so there's really no point if, say, alcohol consumption goes down to nineteen, because plenty teenagers in the US have had alcohol of some sort.

EDIT: and as Woodstock says, it differs per state.

Woodstock 03-22-2005 04:38 PM

Besides, I think the US has the highest death rate for drunk drivers. So it makes sense to get a liscense before you can drink.

\m/Pete\m/ 03-22-2005 04:44 PM

if the drinking age were lowered we would much less death by drunk driving.

Look at Germany, Mexico, Italy, etc. they hardly have any of that...and they drive ****in crazy when they're sober

I don't think I am, I'm not starting threads about it, I'm just gonna bash him until he shuts the **** up, much like Bobo did to me.

That makes absolutely no sense. Comparing us to completely different countries doesn't help, either.

Yeah, he is. And I am joining in on it. Luckily, I've actually e-befriended Bobo.

Woodstock 03-22-2005 04:54 PM

Isn't a DUI punishment in England much more serious than one in the US?

Six Foot Revolver 03-22-2005 04:56 PM

I'm already in on it. Look at me name :)

i am the robots 03-22-2005 04:56 PM

I prefer the American system:

Driving: 16
Drinking: 15 (not by law, but hardly anybody cares)

Sorry to sound ignorant(sp) but what is DUI?

superpeer 03-22-2005 04:58 PM

At 16, people are still fighting on internet forums, they shouldn't be exposed to real world traffic.

We get kicked out of school if we get caught.

Driving Under the Influence [of alcohol/other substances]

EDIT: Late !

Driving Under the Influence (of alcohol). It's a pretty common term over here.

EDIT: curse you antihero

Six Foot Revolver 03-22-2005 05:00 PM
Driving Under the Influence (of alcohol). It's a pretty common term over here.
Yeah, it's very strict because drinking is linked so much into our culture and there is a much higher rate of drink driving here than anywhere else in the world.

Oh, the schools and cops care, and some parents do, but not much else.

That's a lot anyways.

The only people who get caught are the people who drink to be cool, cause they always walk around outdoors drunk, and have big loud parties, and are just asking to get caught, my parents are cool with drinking, so me and my bro have like 5 friends over, and just jam in the basement (luckilly my parents don't know about the smokage).

It does, theres been research done showing that as well. The only comparison im making is towards drinking which is what most people do when underage drinking comes up.

If it was of a younger age then kids would be not as likely do it as much, it wouldnt be illegal so it would always be available to them.

RCA 03-22-2005 05:05 PM

Hello everyone. I got those books that Cain recommended, but haven't had time to sit down and read them.

So you're saying that the reason so many kids are illegaly drinking alcohol is because it's illegal? I find that hard to agree with.

\m/Pete\m/ 03-22-2005 05:08 PM

whoops i forgot to add something else earlier...you'd have to raise the driving age as well
