I'm in a skramza mood, but I don't have any skramza. Where do I start?
Not calling it skramza.

Iluvatar 01-23-2008 11:06 PM

im surprised you havent added gospel or kidcrash to that list considering how you always talk about them.

but yeah that is a good list to start from.

NemesisDivina 01-23-2008 11:08 PM

I've heard Gospel but I didn't realize that they were considered Screamo.

EDIT:

I think I'll go with Orchid, Hot Cross, and Circle Takes the Square to start me off.

Gospel and Kidcrash aren't really drastic impactors on the sound.

Gospel is kind of an anomaly for stoner rock fused with screamo.

Kidcrash is basically just an embellishment on Off Minor with a few more bells and whistles.

I don't think the list is really to show off the best records in the genre, or at least my favorites. It is more to be an easy to follow linear path of the genre. Shotmaker should be on there and I think I am going to edit it a little.

Iluvatar 01-23-2008 11:11 PM

Yeah but then again how much did Hot Cross really impact the scene that hadn't already been around in some form.

Technicality but I mean yeah. I remember you saying you didn't even like some of those bands that much, I was just commenting that you seem to think they are at least the biggest "innovators" since CTTS or w/e.

Transient 01-23-2008 11:14 PM

Why isn't there any Off Minor?

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 11:15 PM

yeah, but look at all the impact CTTS and Hot Cross have had. lots of bands cite them as a source and while Hot Cross may have been somewhat ATDIish they certainly pushed post-hardcore and emo to a brink it hadn't been to with 'Cryonics'. I guess because of Risk Revival their popularity has gone down a little bit, but they were hugely popular just a few years ago and along with CTTS probably one of the reasons emo/screamo has become so popular.

The list is definitely in need of a overhaul though, when I get the time I'll do that. One of my wishes is to essentially copy the style of 'American Hardcore' in the setting of emo and screamo.
Why isn't there any Off Minor?
because, i wouldn't necessarily describe them as extreme innovation. they essentially combined a sound that was highly popular in the mid '90s (Unwound, Fugazi, Rodan, etc.) with the aggressive side of Saetia. plus in just the eyes of 'screamo' they are just an embellishment on the sound Saetia and like minded bands were originally playing with.

That could end up being hilarious.

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 11:24 PM

Why would it be hilarious?

Iluvatar 01-23-2008 11:26 PM

American Hardcore made me laugh at points.

quick edit: I also think you'd do a fantastic job!

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 11:28 PM

I just like the oral history approach and think it'd work really well to expose some of the inner cliches of that scene. Where as most of the people involved in the early years of hardcore look back on that time as something positive and declare themselves part of that scene, it seems alot of emo people deny being emo or whatever and are ashamed of their past endeavors.

Iluvatar 01-23-2008 11:29 PM

It would be interesting, that is if you took the time to get ahold of a lot of the people involved way back in the day.

which might be difficult at this point.

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 11:50 PM

i guess, it'd probably be a five year long project or something ridiculous like that.

That would definitely be awesome, though.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 11:31 AM

It'd be cute, yeah.

whiteminority 01-24-2008 03:08 PM
Is it available through any online sites like 29north (is that even up again yet) or do you have to order it from the label?
29north is closed for good. Greg got a job working at Relapse.

Iluvatar 01-24-2008 03:10 PM

Ah thats lame, I thought it was only down for a while.

****.

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:20 PM

I think the term "skram" should just die now.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:22 PM

no way dude it seperates the TRUE screamo from that poppy garbage

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:26 PM

Ugh.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:28 PM

its such a metal reaction tbh

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:31 PM
its such a metal reaction tbh
I was listening to "skram" when you were still listening to Korn, ELEVENTEEN.

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:37 PM

hahaha, he still listens to Korn dude. just the metalcore version.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:37 PM
I was listening to "skram" when you were still listening to Korn, ELEVENTEEN.
YOU WANNA KNOW WHY? BECAUSE KORN IS SICK AND THEIR LYRICS COME FROM THA HEART

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:37 PM

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:38 PM

holy ****, how could you ever listen to As Cities Burn more than once?

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:40 PM

the vocals in your band are so ridiculously stupid.

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:40 PM

I don't know how anyone can like that band. So bland and lame. They appeal to scene kids. Oh wait.

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:41 PM

no, listen to his band dude. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=83656089

it is hilarious how many cliches of bad metalcore they've managed to throw into one band. plus the amount of distortion on the vocals is ridiculous, it reminds me of DFelon's first recordings.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:43 PM

Except it's not even metalcore, holy crap!

And the song with the distorted vocals was done in the summer after 11th grade, and the distortion's because I was trying to be like Anthony Gunnells.

and I didn't like As Cities Burn until I saw them live, and Trevor says the same thing, so f u niggaz.

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 03:44 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHA

"Draped In Crimson"

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:45 PM

That song was done two years ago, and that band's out of commission now anyway.

Listen to my new band niggaz:

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:46 PM

O.T.D.B. 2008
Current mood: straight edge AND vegan

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:47 PM

Hell yes.

We had a song called Krump, and there was a breakdown at the end where the lyrics were just, "Michael J. Fox does the robot," repeatedly.

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:48 PM

is Paraphilia trying to be the Norma Jean of Death Metal?

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:51 PM

Yes. Very much so.

i am the robots 01-24-2008 03:55 PM

Pixies you're very good at hurting my feelings, please, more.

Iluvatar 01-24-2008 03:56 PM

Sup dead band page.

sup metalcore thread.

oh wait.

pixiesfanyo 01-24-2008 03:57 PM
Pixies you're very good at hurting my feelings, please, more.
if you're going to go with the nonchalant approach to taking insults, you actually have to be nonchalant about it bro.
