Anyway, can someone recommend me some good Amon Amarth albums and songs?
Versus the World is their best album from what I've heard, which is everything except the new one.

3rdplanet 02-10-2005 01:18 PM

^ That Pantera list is very good, I would add This Love to it aswell though.

Opeth, hum, try stuff off of Still Life and Blackwater Park for their best material.

Verikansa 02-10-2005 01:18 PM

Metallica - Battery
Damage Inc
Fight Fire With Fire
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Creeping Death
Blackened
The Shortest Straw
Dyers Eve
Sad But True
Holier Than Thou

Dream Theater - 6:00
Lie
Under a Glass Moon
Beyond this Life
Home
The Glass Prison

also for you I'd reccammend any of DT's songs off of Train of Thought except for Vacant. That would be As I Am, This Dying Soul, Endless Sacrifice, Honor They Father, Stream of Conciousness, and In the Name of God.

thnx !
As mentioned, BWP or Still Life are your best bet for albums. You can also check the official Opeth thread if you want, this has been brought up a ton of times and there are some really detailed responses.

tool_greg 02-10-2005 06:56 PM

Like... what genre?

munky_magik 02-10-2005 07:31 PM

Try: Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, Dream Evil, Children of Bodom,

I'll add more as I think of them.

Dragonforce has easy rhythm, impossible lead though.

He said along the same lines. That's about as same lineish as I can give.

Permanent Solution 02-10-2005 08:12 PM

He could also try Iron Maiden (minus most of the solos)

Rush

Phunphone 02-11-2005 10:33 AM

Can someone recommend me a couple of good Children of Bodom songs? I'm wondering how good these guys are after being hyped so much around here.

Kingofdudes 02-11-2005 10:38 AM

Needled 24/7
Follow the Reaper

They are a little over hyped. But still a great band.

Phunphone 02-11-2005 10:40 AM

Thanks.

Wayne_Ambrose101 02-11-2005 11:48 AM

wat slipknot album is better, iowa or slipknot?

3rdplanet 02-11-2005 11:51 AM

Slipknot - Self/Titled, Iowa is just literal crap.

Then again Slipknot - S/T isn't good. Just better.

ok then! thank u! ^_^ er....wats S/T?

3rdplanet 02-11-2005 11:55 AM

S/T is shorthand for Self Titled.

So say instead of typing Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine, you can type RATM - S/T.

My good deed for the day done.

3rdplanet 02-11-2005 12:01 PM

lol, s'alright. Cheers for the rep+, *reps back*

Although I think maybe you should ask for some other recommendations. There is a lot of music out there.

IAJP 02-11-2005 12:03 PM

Uh, I need some help, this is a sort of fixed recomendation.

I'm going into town tommorow, to buy 2112 by Rush, that's for sure.

But I'm not 100% sure what else to get, I was thinking, Hemispheres or Carress Of Steel, both by Rush.

Or maybe even a Dream Theater album, I.E which is the best Dream Theater album.

MAthiAS 02-11-2005 12:04 PM

Alright, my list of bands I need recammendations for right now:
Stratovarius
Kalmah
Norther
Symphony X
Death

If you like Rush, I'd suggest Images and Words. Thats their least heavy album, and my personal favorite. You'd probably like Awake too, but I'd get I and W first.

3rdplanet 02-11-2005 12:07 PM

Yup if you are thinking of getting Dream Theater, get either Awake of Images and Words. Probably get which ever is cheaper, as they are both great, I don't know much about Rush so I can't really help.

Crystal Mountain and Voice of the Soul are great Death songs. Pretty much all I have by them, but they are my faves.

Symphony X wise, Fallen is easy to get and listen to. They are on my to check out list too, so any recommendations yiou recieve I will probably check out aswell.

On Dream Theater:
Train Of thought is Very Heavy and Shreddy.
Scenes From a Memory has heavy moments, mellow moments and lot's of technical moments. IMO it contains all of the classic Dream Theater elements, and is there most rounded album.
Falling Into Infinity is overal Mellow.
Awake is again a mix of Heavyness and Mellowness.
Six Degrees of Inner turbulence has it's heavy moments, and also it's mellow momments.

I have most of these over AIM if you want.

Yeah, of Symphony X I've only heard Sea of Lies, great song and its convinced me to check them out further. Thanks for the Death songs, anyone have any more recammendations for me?

IAJP 02-11-2005 12:15 PM

Cheers, thanks to everyone for that.
I've heard good things about Medopalis Pt. 2, are these not ill found?

3rdplanet 02-11-2005 12:20 PM

Metropolis Pt 2 is part of the name for Scenes from a Memory, and Scenes...is considered by many to be their master piece.

I agree, in part, Scenes has some cringe worthy moments on it.

IAJP 02-11-2005 12:23 PM

Norther
Blackhearted,
Betrayed,
Of Darkness And Light.

Symphony X
Into The Dementia,
Lesson Before Dying,
Through The Looking Glass (part I II III).

I'm afraid I don't know much by the other bands, sorry :(

Its Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory

Lots of people say its their best, I disagree. Its a great album, but IMO Images and Words, Awake, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are better.

Stratovarius; my immediate reccomendation would be simply "steer clear" (unless you're already hugely into power metal, I suppose). If you're determined though, try Hunting High and Low, Millenium or Infinity.

Kalmah;
Heroes to Us
Burbot's Revenge
The Third, The Magical
Bird of Ill Omen
Heritance of Berija
Black Roija

Death - earlier;
Infernal Death
Evil Dead
Zombie Ritual
Scream Bloody Gore

Death - later
Flattening of Emotions
Crystal Mountain
Voice of the Soul
Suicide Machine

What do you have against them? And thanks for the other reccomendations.

IAJP 02-11-2005 03:11 PM

Meh, I suppose power metal isn't everyones bag, like mine for example.

Each to his own.
