Apocalyptic Raids 11-15-2005 05:08 AM

I say get Unleashed In The East.

Even though I'm a bit of a Priest noob >_>

Riva 11-15-2005 05:10 AM

I'm simply leading him down the flowery path to Priest fanboyism, Jon.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-15-2005 05:11 AM

I skipped that path :upset:

There is still hope, since I do not have Painkiller.

Riva 11-15-2005 05:13 AM

Josh, get AoR, and then tell me what tracks you like the best. AoR is sort of an amalgamation of their new and old stuff.

rippa32 11-15-2005 05:52 AM

What was Judas Priests most commercial album? I generally start into bands with there most commercial stuff.

British Steel.

Shadows Within 11-15-2005 06:15 AM
Sure have. Why do you ask?
do you think there ripoffs of priest iv had one person tell me pantera and the other priest but everyone else likes them (that i've shown).

Deth 11-15-2005 06:52 AM

Basically every bad power metal band is a Priest rip off in one way or another.

i dunno that dude from 3 inches of blood gets his painkiller voice pretty good biomechanical doesent sound too much like halford but there still great.

The first time I heard the 3 Inches of Blood song "Deadly Sinners", I thought of Priest's "All guns Blazing" when it came to the vocals.

naboo 11-15-2005 03:52 PM
Sin After Sin is a pretty good album, not their best, but worth owning
Sin After Sin just might be my favorite album by them. Sinner, Diamonds and Rust, Last Rose of Summer, Call for the Priest, and Dissident Agressor are some of my favorite songs by them. Most of the songs really have identity and it seems like one of their darkest albums to me (probably cause I listened to it for the first time on a cloudy day).

Sad Wings may be better though. I love their older stuff.

But the thing with Halford is that he can do that and then go to a completly different style. He's one of the most versitile singers I've ever heard.

Darkest hay? I might get it then. Oh and btw Ive heard Halford sing in that really high pitched voice like in Freewheel Burning, but other times he sings in a lower voice such as Breaking the Law and You don't have to be old to be wise. What way does he usually sing?

RCA 11-15-2005 08:27 PM

I tend to not like Painkiller much, even though it's a good album. It's unoriginal; to prove my point, listen to Riot's Thunder Steel. It's got more speed metal in it, but it's total Painkiller two years before the fact. :thumb:

He's so talented that he sings in any style he likes, but on the whole, early Priest has him with lower vocals than late stuff.

On later (post Point Of Entry) albums he rarely uses the lower register of his voice; it's all screeching.

Which is a shame.

Dreamer Deceiver from Sad Wings really shows his range off!

Son of Northern Darkness 11-16-2005 02:50 AM

My Favorite album is Definately "Killing Machine"! That album ROCKS!!! Green Manalishi, Runnin Wild, Evening Star.... Just AWESOME tracks!
Painkiller was the first album I ever picked up and listened to, which got me into Judas Priest... So I'm glad for taht, coz at the time i was really into speed and thrash and didn't really appreciate the other aspects that make metal so great! I'm glad I got to my senses as I got older though... I realise that Painkiller isn't such an amazing album but it got me listening to priest...Metal GODS!!!! I dream of seeing Judas Priest Live...
I really love "Turbo" too! HaHa! It's so 80's and so sleazy and I just LOVE it!!! Especially Turbo lover, Locked in and Reckless... The sexual innuendo's are hilarious!:p

Does he ever screech on Sin After Sin, it's just I found it on vinyl the other day and I'm tossing up whether to buy it.

Yeah, he does - but it's not quite the same sort of screech

He does it on Sinner, Starbreaker, Let Us Pray/Call For The Priest, Here Come The Tears (a bit), Dissident Aggressor.

Mmmm = come to think of it, that's most of them

But he uses his lower voice a lot more than later on

NP Dissident Aggressor

rippa32 11-16-2005 03:29 AM

So is Sin After Sin worth it? I quite like his screeching.

dude, buy it! Just the fact that you can own Judas Priest on Vinyl should be enough incentive.... But I don't think it's such a bad album...

rippa32 11-16-2005 03:33 AM

Okay I will, damn I hope its there when I get back lol.

Buy it Rippa, and buy it now.

Sin After Sin is one of their most underrated albums.

It is great.

Oh, the humanity...

Sin After Sin is pretty good. Took me quite a few listens before it grew on me. Nothing hit me straight away like on Painkiller or Stained Class.

Ha ha- a lot of the best things in life are acquired tastes - often it's things you like immediately that soon pall, and things that initially you don't like that you like most after a while

I know it was like that for me with most of my favourite things - booze, fags, (cigarettes, not homo's..), coffee, sex, no, hang on - I liked that one immediately...

The others still stand!

I really like Sin After Sin, but like you, it took me a while. It was the first album they released with really good drumming in.

Deth 11-17-2005 06:50 AM

I still think that The Ripper on UITE is Halfords shining moment vocally.

I need to get some more Priest, their albums are usually pretty cheap.

Kronos 11-17-2005 07:00 AM

Ripper is good, but Dreamer Deceiver or Victim Of Changes are better IMO.

Everyone needs more Priest!

Except me, as I have all of it - even a horrible 4 track EP with them trying to look "hard" and ending up looking "camp"

Didn't mean to sound like a big-head there - I do seriously have all their stuff worth having :)

I believe it was somewhere about 1978, it definitely has "Hell Bent For Leather" on it.

On the sleeve they're all dressed up in tight, coloured leather gear with studs and stuff - I mean, who can look "hard" in silver or red?

And Les Binks always looked sort of hilarious - like a gerbil pretending to have an attitude.

Good drummer tho'

Sounds interesting.

Les Binks is definitely there most creative drummer at least. It's pretty obvious that Scott Travis is the most technically gifted Priest drummer.

Exciter and Beyond the Realms of Death are great drum tracks. Especially for 1978.

Deth 11-21-2005 09:24 AM

It's weird when I look at Priest's drummers as a whole. They spread across technical (Travis) to creative (Binks) to pretty damn boring (Holland).

Indeed. I never did much like Dave Holland. He can keep a beat and all, but he doesn't have an edge like the other two.
Nope.... Even in Iced Earth he dosn't really do it for me...
I'm quite sure he meant the song.

Deth 11-21-2005 10:30 AM

Besides, Ripper in Iced Earth = almost as good.

Brew 11-21-2005 10:41 AM

Sin After Sin is my favourite Priest album out of the ones I own.

 HAHAHAHA! I am Such a Dumbass!!! HAHa! Sorry!!! I actually like the Live version of "The Ripper" on Unleasehed in the East a lot!! But the Original doesn't really do it for me....

Deth 11-21-2005 01:44 PM

Well, that's because Unleashed In The East > Just about everything else.

rippa32 11-24-2005 06:16 PM

I got Sin After Sin yesterday, that's right that vinyl copy. I am really enjoying it, it's great. There are a couple of problems though. The guitars sound a bit thin, I don't know if that is due to crappy mixing or just the tone they use. And Last Rose Of Summer quite simply sucks, I would go as far as saying it brings down the whole first side. Oh I also had a question about it, it says on the back that Roger Glover prduced it. Is it the same Roger Glover from Deep Purple?
