I wasn't a big fan of Awake at first... but it really grows on you after a while.

Lord Abortion 02-21-2005 08:11 AM

yeah I love images and words I really haven't stopped listening to it Wait for sleep is very beautiful

imadopedude 02-21-2005 05:52 PM

i just started to hear some dream theatre, can you guys suggest some good songs?

6:00, Beyond this Life, Metropolis Pt. 1, Learning to Live, Take the Time, Home, In the Name of God, As I Am, Blind Faith, Yste Jam, Scarred. Should get you started... :thumb:

Yeah Abortion, I agree, Wait for Sleep is an awesome song, and it leads really nicely into Learning to Live. I love how DT have some of the coolest mellow stuff and great heavy stuff as well. Just look at Awake with Space Dye Vest and The Mirror/Lie.

Yeah. I really love 1-4 on 6DoiT disc 1.
Yeah. I really love 1-4 on 6DoiT disc 1.
How about the second disc? :p :D

mprules 02-22-2005 11:29 PM

i used to love images and words, but i think my favourite album is now awake, its so great

it does not have the cheesy element of images and words, and basically every song on it is great, scarred is good

BradyEB 02-23-2005 12:48 AM

I dunno only track 1 2 and 5 have grown for me on the first disc and i quite like the second disc but theres still room for growing.
I heard This Dying Soul today for the first time and i was so happy when i heard it was apart of The Glass Prision. \m/ to that.

Yeah, Portnoy said every album they'll have a song like that, until he runs out of AA steps to write about.

Second disc of 6DoiT, I really havent listened to all THAT much, though there are some killer songs on it.

Cain 02-23-2005 12:53 AM

To MaTHias:

Really? I really wish Portnoy wouldn't write any more "Glass Prison" continuations. But then, ToT's style is a general bone of contention with me, so there you have it, I suppose.

MAthiAS 02-23-2005 12:58 AM

Yeah, that's the deal. The Glass Prison is about AA steps 1-3 I think, and This Dying Soul is 4 and 5. 12 in all, so maybe that guarantees 3 more albums with one?

Quebec 02-23-2005 04:11 PM

It's a great thing that he want to do step 6-12. Can't wait to hear them!

Burdcheese 02-23-2005 05:22 PM

Anyone planning on getting John Petrucci's solo album?

MNbassist78 02-23-2005 05:45 PM

Yeah, I'm getting it, it sounds like it will be pretty good.

Along with all the other suggestions, I think "take away my pain" is a nice poppy number to get a better grip on their versatility.

I think I'm going to buy it. I hope it wont be too expensive

I would love to but i'm still working on getting the rest of DT albums. Will probably get Awake or A Change of Seasons next.

MAthiAS 02-23-2005 09:09 PM

Yeah, I'll get JP's album eventually. After I buy a new guitar, been saving for a while.

Quebec 02-24-2005 07:27 PM

What guitar will you buy?

Sorry this is really off topic...

MAthiAS 02-24-2005 10:38 PM

Looking at an LTD DV8 (Mustaine sig), maybe a Jackson Kelly, King V, or Soloist of some sort. Or an Ibanez RG1570 if I can find a 2004 one. Or maybe a real ESP Romeo model, met a guy who said he could get me one.

It'll be released on march 1st...

MAthiAS 02-25-2005 02:26 PM

Yea. JP's solo album should be good. We really need a new topic here.

Oh bugger, I meant I tried to get the 'Evening with...' CD.

TenYearsGone 02-25-2005 09:09 PM

Isn't the new solo album only avalible off of Johns' site?

Chicago Typewriter 02-25-2005 09:35 PM

I've just recently gotten into Dream Theater, so the only CD I have thus far is Train of Thought. The album is brilliant, but I found the lyrics to be a bit generic; any suggestions as to which album I should get next?

Images and Words is my favorite. Its a lot less heavy though, so you'd probably be better off getting Awake or Scenes From A Memory. Awake is my preference of those two, but both are awesome.

I've only seen that CD once in a store, I almost bought it except it was $30CDN and I was broke. :upset:

I haven't been dissapointed with a DT album yet. Personally, I really like Awake and Train of Thought. Though IaW is up there...I really like every song off there

I LOVE Surrounded...the whole "light to dark, dark to light" is really cool! :thumb:

I'm a nerd :upset:

IvortheEngineDriver 02-25-2005 11:59 PM

Personally, I think lyrically, Learning to Live is their best song.

"I fell in love to be let down"...what an amazing ****ing line!

The JoZ 02-26-2005 12:00 AM

Dream Theater have so many good lyrics it isn't funny.

Seriously, I think there are probably great lyrics on every album of theirs...save maybe WDaDU...simply because I don't know all the lyrics off that one yet, so...meh :p

Embodyment 02-26-2005 01:27 AM

Dream Theater is my fav metal band. but i have to admit that at times Labrie and Rudess make me absolutely CRINGE. some parts with the really wanky keyboards and when labrie sings all high it makes me almost embarrassed to listen to them. but when i hear the rest of the band it makes it all worth it. dont get me wrong, i like labrie's singing and rudess's playing. sometimes they make some of Dream Theater's most pivitol(sp?) moments for me, its just that they also make me cringe as well. but my fav band by far. they are the only band so far to make me bang my head and cry in the same song.
