Cyndi Lauper

"Time After Time"

Tapeworm 08-08-2004 01:20 AM

^ ^ ^ Nice. Cyndi Lauper is freaking radical!

I've been listening to a lot of The Streets, and I listened to QOTSA for the first time in ages today.

OrbDragon 08-08-2004 03:31 AM

- Ozric Tentacles is a really good acid-prog-rock band...they are ****ing amazing. I'm digging Can too.
- The Electric Six are one of my guilty pleasures...
- The George Baker Selection turn out have other cool songs besides the übercool song "Little Green Bag". They are officially homeland pride to me. The singers voice is fockin rad.
- I'm also starting another Ani DiFranco-wind. uh-oh.

Happymeal 08-08-2004 07:15 AM

Kind Of Like Spitting-"Birds Of A Feather", can't get enough of the song, pop-punk lyrics with violin
Two Ton Shoe-"Believe", funk/alt/rock with groovy bass
Denali-"Gunner", Maura Davis rules..but they broke up :upset:
Flaming Lips-"All We Have Is Now", makes me cry..out to buy Soft Bulletin..hehehe
Zero 7-"In the Waiting Line", a bit like Air, but more lounge-ey and less dark

..torn between MBV's Loveless or DJ Shadow's Endtroducing(and they're both cheap) or SDRE's Diary..argh

Tapeworm 08-08-2004 07:50 AM

Thats a really difficult decision. If I were you, I would get Endtroducing... and Loveless. Or maybe try not to have such good taste. :thumb:

Meh, I'm still new to this stuff.. I'm trying to keep an open mind, that's all.. just got out of that pop-punk "poseur" emo phase, hahahaha. So far I've listened to Six Days and Stem/Long Stem and seen Walkie Talkie's video from DJ Shadow and I'm quite impressed.. and my friends keeps telling me to buy Loveless and Souvlaki.. haven't heard any MBV or Slowdive material yet though, but I'm interested! ssoouunnd trrripppiiiiing...

Thanks by the way:)

Luxor 08-08-2004 09:10 AM

I'd go with SDRE's The Diary. (Both of the other two are amazing albums as well though.) :thumb:

Happymeal 08-08-2004 10:11 AM

Ok, I'll just save up so I can buy them all at the same time!!:smash: thanks!:)

Happymeal 08-08-2004 07:56 PM

Oh yeah I forgot. Bjork-Play Dead and Tori Amos-Gold Dust, Sweet Sangria. My faves from both artists.

That's so hard!!!!! I'd get Loveless but only just :(

I hate making decisions like that :( :( :(

Get them all though :thumb:

The UnderWorld Soundtrack (which isn't really Great, but features a couple cool tracks remixed by Danny Loner, and also a remix w/ Maynard of David Bowie's "Bring Me the Disco King- been digging that much lately, need to hear the original)

Jerm Pollet....From his ongoing solo stuff and Gals Panic, to a couple internet-samples of his guitars in Ongoing Wow, I've been interested in picking up a couple of related stuff. I've been finding it's very cool. Need CD's tho..

anybody into Grinspoon?

Grinspoon = teh ghey.

LegallyAwesome 08-09-2004 03:22 AM

says you

clown_phobia 08-09-2004 03:43 AM

i think i've heard a bit of grinspoon on some indie compilations.. it was pretty good but nothing spectacular.

Tapeworm 08-09-2004 04:49 AM

Meh, Grinspoon are getting crappier and crappier.

I really love the Underworld soundtrack. Too bad about the movie though. That Puscifier song and the Bowie/MJK one are both incredible.

moderaterock222 08-09-2004 09:35 AM

Hope of the states-the lost riots.

Sparklehorse-its a wonderfull life.

Ivy-long distance and guestroom.

Dr. Luigi 08-09-2004 05:48 PM

I've been diggin' The Postal Service...Give up. Im really getting into the songs, and they melody of them. Its a great album.
songs:
-The district sleeps alone
-nothing better
-brand new colony
...and so on.

Quoted for truth.

The second they tried to be a real band was the second they failed.

LegallyAwesome 08-09-2004 07:49 PM

Guess that's true...i was into Grinspoon for awhile but realized how stail they starting sounding after awhile
I was just hoping at the time that more Australian bands (like them or not) would get more notice..

ATDIrock 08-09-2004 08:19 PM

I'm getting into the whole "avant garde" stuff. Bands like Godspeed you black emperor, explosions in the sky, sigur ros, mogwai etc.

I'm so glad I got out of the pop punk scene just in time though. It's getting worse and worse.

bumskin 08-09-2004 08:21 PM

I'm going for Glassjaw atm. Head Automatica is also good but not what I'd expect from Daryl Palumbo. Anyway, thing about Glassjaw is I never like any of their work at all on the first hearing but the more I hear it it's got some kind of charm to it. However, after a while it gets repetitive so I ignore it. Only to come back to it again with an open mind. Is that a good thing...

Some good bands right there.:thumb:

I missed out tonight on The Cure, Mogwai, Interpol and The Rapture all because I don't have any stupid friends that have the same musical tastes as me. :upset:

I sure as heck wasn't goin' alone! I bet it was a good concert. :(

Not really avant-garde. Post-rock.

CommieCanada 08-09-2004 10:20 PM

SDRE for me. i am going back to my diary LP and just lighting some candles and kickin back

You stupid bastard! You missed so many great bandsa because of your friends? Shame on you!

Whenever you go to big festivals you always get split up from your friends, plus friends get in the way.

Dissapointed...

I go to gigs alone for that very reason. Why shouldn't you go alone anyway? It's not like you can really talk to anyone during the gig anyway!

Regina Spektor
Meat Beat Manifesto (It finally came, shipped from the US)

fakeplasticpt 08-10-2004 04:46 AM

OK Computer

It's strange how your favorite CD of 8 years gets better every time you listen to it.

Luxor 08-10-2004 10:45 AM

I'd have to get my dad to drive me allllll the way into Toronto and drop me off alone, it just feels so lonely. I would never do it.:p

I'd be nervous to go to a gig by myself. Scared of drunk people :(

Most of my friends would get in the way though. It's kind of like when you want to see a movie by yourself and then somone random sits next to you.

I'm loving blink 182's latest album, especailly the track with Robert Smith. Daym it's good.

Tapeworm 08-11-2004 06:50 AM

^ ^ ^ Goo goo g'joob, my friend. That album is nice. :thumb:

I saw the clip for Jeff Buckley's "Forget Her" the other night, and it has led me to a huge Jeff binge. "Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk" is one of the most unfairly ignored album of the 90's. I really love it.

toshoffthebill 08-11-2004 07:04 AM

I just got Mark Lanegan's solo album Bubblegum, it wasn't what I expected at all but I'm still really liking it, theres quite a good mix of slow and faster tracks. Its also got some really good collaborations with PJ Harvey, Josh Homme and others.

Jellyspoon 08-11-2004 07:23 AM
I'd be nervous to go to a gig by myself. Scared of drunk people :(
I see, how old are you bread?

You could just become a drunk scary person yourself :thumb:

Happymeal 08-11-2004 08:12 AM

I've been to some nasty high school and college gigs..everyone else is stoned or drunk, but at least they mind their own business.:P But drunk people are sometimes scary..They randomly stab people back in my country..yeesh.

Anyways, I didn't have enough cash so I bought Isn't Anything by MBV first 'cause it's cheaper($7.99 Canadian!).It's my first taste of shoegazer I guess..I listened to a little Sonic Youth before but I forgot how it sounded like, hehe. I like Lose My Breath, I Can See It(But I Can't Feel It) and Cupid Come. I hope Loveless is even better. :D

Geometric Patterns 08-11-2004 11:14 AM

I've been playing 'blank-wave acrade' by the faint a lot lately, I think its going to melt. Also the 'Proximity Effect' and 'Let Go' by Nada Surf. Ah, great albums. The faint is touring again! :D

Sometimes its best going to your favorite gigs alone, while going with friends is fun, you have to kind of keep an eye on where they are so they dont get lost yada yada. its hard to really get into the music. at a lot of the little local highschool things theres kids who are usually at their first show and decide they might as well drink and blaze too, why not try three new things. They got on my nerves a little too much, so I dont really chill in that scene too much anymore.

Luxor 08-11-2004 06:01 PM

I baught The Stills album tonight. I haven't gotten through the entire album yet, but what I've listened to so far is pretty darn good.

dying_to_live11 08-11-2004 10:32 PM

ok some sweet songs would have to be:

the sound-further seems forever
we looked like giants- death cab for cutie
the tension and the terror- straylight run
lover i dont have to love-bright eyes(one of the weirdest songs ever)
okay i believe but my tommy gun dont- brand new
