Well, American Idiot is a bit overrated. And some of the singles got way too much radio play.

yourstruly 06-16-2006 02:54 AM

Well yeah. But that's the 12 year olds fault.
Well yeah. But that's the 12 year olds fault.
Well they do always vote for them on channels like Kerrang...

Bad Blood 06-16-2006 07:13 AM

AI is awesome.

It's like pretty much the only Green Day album I listen to. If I ever do that is, which isn't very often now.

I have respect for them though.

Ross 06-16-2006 07:56 AM

I was a big Green Day fan back in the day.

Insomniac ftw, as I have said many many times before. American Idiot is a fine album, but I just got sick of it being so overplayed on the radio/tv etc.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 09:24 AM

I don't see why people complain about them being overrated or whatever.

Before American Idiot came out, they were as underground as could be, they got little to no airplay, and only the true Green Day fans new about them. All that floated around was Dookie, but even if they are overrated, even if they are underground, or whatever you want to label them as, you can't deny that they brought to the table a list of possibilities for Pop-punk, and many of the Pop-punk bands around today wouldn't be here without them as the inspiration.

BTW, I love American Idiot, I don't care how many people kick me in the balls for saying it.

Oz Rembrandt 06-16-2006 09:58 AM

I wouyldn't have said anything after Dookie! was very underground at all.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 10:00 AM

Well I guess underground was the wrong word to use. I guess underrated is the better word to use. I think they had much better stuff after Dookie, but to a lot of people Dookie was the only succesful album, not counting American Idiot.

Oz Rembrandt 06-16-2006 10:03 AM

Warning was incredibley succesful too, but to a different audience to Dookie. Insomniac had some really popular singles too... Nimrod less so, I think.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 10:12 AM

All Nimrod really had, success wise, was the guitar ballad "Good Riddance", but I thought it had some quality songs. Anytime I ask people what their favorite Green Day album is, they say either Dookie or American Idiot. Then I say "What about Insomniac?" and they reply to me "Insomni-what?". When it comes to the mainstream, Dookie and American Idiot are the only two albums that really make Green Day, quote quote, overrated.

Overrated is a very misinterpreted word. It doesn't mean that the band is bad, it isn't even the band itself that is overrated, it's just those two albums. When people must go on about how so-and-so is better, there is no way that it can be matched, then that makes it overrated, and it tends to lead to many arguments and fights. It get's sickening. We should listen to what we want, and not try to convince people otherwise that this IS the best, because that is all opinion. In my eyes, patrick is saying that Green Day is overrated, because he probably hasn't heard the actual quality stuff. People don't realize there is much more history to Green Day than Dookie and American Idiot.

[NOTE:] This wasn't arguing against anyone, this was just something I felt I needed to get out.

Also, Warning is kickass. It's what got me into Green Day. (Minority ftw)

Oz Rembrandt 06-16-2006 10:22 AM

Nimrod is such a great album, full of wonderful Pop Punk songs. For me, its (and a few others) > Dookie.

Untitled 06-16-2006 10:24 AM

Nimrod's there best.

I dont know anyone who agrees with me on that though, most people say Insomniac.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 10:24 AM

For some reason, I really like "Redundant". It's different from normal Green Day, and it reminds me of this girl I love.

I noticed that Nimrod kind of catches the emotional aspects of Green Day more than the other albums and they are a bit more serious in most of the songs on there.

Ross 06-16-2006 10:38 AM
Nimrod's there best.

Really? In my experience I could swap Nimrod and Insomniac around in that sentence.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 10:43 AM

I rarely hear people chant "NIMROD!!!".

Ross 06-16-2006 10:49 AM

I've never heard anyone chant "INSOMNIAC!!!".

Dead Star 06-16-2006 10:52 AM

I've never heard anyone chant an album name before.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-16-2006 10:57 AM
I've never heard anyone chant an album name before.

I meant that most people don't even utter anything about Nimrod, at least where I live. Of course they're too busy going to Hot Topic and buying American Idiot decals.

Get Fighted 06-16-2006 03:00 PM

I don't really have a favourite Green Day album anymore. I suppose it may be Insomniac.

yourstruly 06-16-2006 04:27 PM

All the Green Day albums i've got seem pretty similiar to me, probably cos i haven't listened to them very thoroughly.

Get Fighted 06-16-2006 04:28 PM

Also, Stuck With Me was my anthem of last summer. Thanks to the legend who uploaded it for me (obviously i have the album now).

The Sludge 06-17-2006 01:20 AM

I wonder what happened to their old demo's they were working on before they came with the idea of American Idiot.

Bad Blood 06-17-2006 01:37 AM

Probably never know.

I'm eager to see how Green Day's next album turns out. It's not really very predictable now. I just hope it's something different.

Ross 06-17-2006 05:33 AM

I think it'd be hilarious if they turned into Slayer-esque thrash metal.

"ANGEL OF DEATH!!! RAWR!!!11"

That'd certainly clear away many of their new fans (the sort who treat Kerrang like a holy bible).

nobodyblossomsforever 06-17-2006 08:31 AM

I hope it's not another "compilation". As much as I like AI, I love the old stuff much more. Of course Green Day is about what is in it seems like, so that probably won't happen.

Ross 06-17-2006 09:33 AM

The "in" thing here in the UK is Brit/Indie/pop. And boy is it garbage.

You're right though. I can't see it being more of what we'd prefer, but then I'm still interested in what it's going to be like. It's anybody's guess tbh at the moment.

yourstruly 06-17-2006 06:52 PM
I wonder what happened to their old demo's they were working on before they came with the idea of American Idiot.
I thought it was lost in a fire and they decided to not use it anyway?. That or i'm completely wrong.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-17-2006 07:03 PM

No, all the demos were stolen. It was supposed to have 17 or so songs on it and it was gonna be similar to Warning:, but instead of just rerecording, they decided it wasn't the best thing they've done, so they decided to take a different route and make a concept album.

Fish 06-17-2006 07:07 PM

i still want to hear it though :(

nobodyblossomsforever 06-17-2006 07:09 PM

They are nowhere to be found. Noone knows what happened to them. And they were never leaked.
