Sell Outs is my least favorite Who album.
And I can see Mike pulling a Jamie Fox, Jamie Fox didn't do a real serious movie that I can think of up until Ray which was excellent.
Oh god, Jamie Fox's "comedy" hurts to see...
I thought the Who were easily one of the best bands on the Live 8 broadcast, even without my bias. They still kick ass.
Other than Floyd, I can't think of anyone who put on a better show than them. They were amazing.

Did anyone see the UK Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee ceremony last night? It was broadcast on VH1, for me at least. The did a pretty cool bit on the Who, even though Townshend has a man-purse  . Overall what I saw of the show was interesting though, especially the parts about Bob Dylan and the Kinks.

Relmar 11-27-2005 12:39 PM

Oh friggin great. I was just starting to listen to the who and here is a complete discography.

Thanks!!

JohnXDoesn't 11-28-2005 02:02 AM

^^I didn't know that was on, Lunch. I would of liked to of seen it, of course. Perhaps they will replay it, as VH1 often does for specials. And just in general, really.

Townshend with a man purse....?

.....but I bet it was a stylish man purse.

Stylish though it was, I still just had to laugh at him. It made me sort of angry though, cause I always figured Townshend kicked too much ass for a man purse

Yea I'm sure they'll have it on again. I definitely lucked out becuase I was flipping through the channels and thought I saw Pete's face. I flipped back and it turned out it was a shot of him in the audience during the Bob Dylan part, so then I kept watching.

JohnXDoesn't 12-02-2005 08:18 PM

Exciting news from Pete's website! The Basement Jam is a go for this Sunday at 7:45pm GMT. What time zone that is, I dunno? But Ima gonna find out. 150 minutes of music. WMP only. All live!

Also, Who TV is now Towser TV and is refocused on Pete and his interests. He currently has a self made half hour short movie playing that he made of himself working in his study, his place where he writes lyrics, and his home studio. It's a casual look at Pete at home and working on a loose peice of music. He talks a lot about other stuff, too. And we get to see a bit inside his home. It's entertaining and interesting for any Who/Townshend fan.

Apparently this Rachel Fuller woman is his "partner" these days. She runs a show on Towser TV and he seems invigorated by her presence. He was certainly not this active on his site before. And when he says partner, I don't think he is just talking about business, as she makes a faceless appearance in only her bra in his little movie. It's kinda funny. Check it out, Lunch. And everyone else. :)

now that this thread is on the front page where I can see it, I have several things to ask....

One, has anybody got that new Tommy/Quadrophenia Live DVD? I'm thinking of asking that for Christmas, wanted to know how people thought of it.

Two, I was listening to Tommy, and during "Listening to you..." I was wondering what people interpreted that part as, and what it meant. I don't even have a clue myself, other then that it represents optimism and hope.

temporary 12-02-2005 10:17 PM

Wow, saw a lot of the new DVD at my freind's house today. I haven't seen any of Tommy or Quadraphinia yet, but the hits live was seriously awesome. We also watched the Who's set from Live 8, and they were amazing.

zabbit82 12-02-2005 10:24 PM

Quadrophenia has to be THE best concept album I've heard. Every song is so perfectly constructed. I also love Who's Next. Live songs off of that album are just amazing.

/puts on Who's Next

Jacaranda 12-02-2005 10:26 PM

Nah, Ameircan Idiot is the best concept album ever.

Is Live at the Leeds the DVD any good? I'm debating whether or not to get a Who DVD or a Stones DVD.

To Zabbit: It was called Stones In the Park I think, or something. But I really want a decent Who DVD from their earlier days peferably.

zabbit82 12-02-2005 10:28 PM

What Stones DVD's are there? I know for the who you can get the Kids Are Alright, but I haven't seen that in ages.

Get out of my thread.
Is Live at the Leeds the DVD any good? I'm debating whether or not to get a Who DVD or a Stones DVD.
Live at the Isle of Wight* DVD. The performance is outstanding, the only downside the sound quality, but it's still good. And always, always, take the Who over the Stones. I'd recommend getting The Kids Are Alright DVD first though if you haven't seen it.
Two, I was listening to Tommy, and during "Listening to you..." I was wondering what people interpreted that part as, and what it meant. I don't even have a clue myself, other then that it represents optimism and hope.
I've read a lot about Tommy and still really don't know much about that part. In a way it seems like a connection to the audience that Townshend felt, but I could be completely off.

The Live Hits and Quadrophenia DVDs are great, and although the Tommy one isn't quite as good it's still worth owning (and watching). The Who still put a great performance.

There is no such thing as a Live at Leeds DVD. But Live at the Ilse of Wright is just as well. A good one is also 30 Years of Maximum R&B Live. It's a documentary as much as anything, but has lot's of good concert footage. Vintage and otherwise. TKAA is of course their documentary that chronicles the band up until 1978 and includes amazing concert footage. Live in Boston is very good. It's their only post Entwhistle live DVD thus far. Oh, and Live at the Royal Albert Hall is excellent. That is their last release with Entwhistle. Plus many special guests, as it was a benefit. And then of course there is the latest Tommy/Quadrophenia release. Which is a Who ensemble of sorts. Big band. But still excellent....

.....American Idiot "best concept album ever", lol

Lunch 12-02-2005 11:09 PM

The Live at Royal Albert Hall CD set is only around $12 on Amazon. I was considering getting the DVD but for that price I'm going to pick up the CD. I'll probably end up getting both eventually though.

Yeah. And the CD has great bonus cuts that feature Entwhistle. I don't think the DVD does. The only thing that cuts into it are the guest performers. IMO they get in the way. Same as the Tommy performance from the new DVD. And if you have never seen 30 Years Of Maximum R&B Live by all means Lunch, pick it up. It is well worth it. I consider it a companion peice to TKAA. And in some areas it is superior. Also do check out Pete's short movie he has running at his website. It's only half an hour and it's very nice. Just you and Pete at home mucking around the house and studio. :)

Lunch 12-02-2005 11:20 PM

You've peaked my interest with the 30 Years of Maximum R&B Live, I'll have to check it out.

The Critical Review 1964-1968 looked pretty interesting too.

Edit: It doesn't look like it'll be easy to get the Maximum R&B Dvd.

Seafroggys 12-02-2005 11:26 PM

i think i've seen the 30 years movie, and even though it was good, featured WAY too much post-Moon stuff....even a lot of moon-era songs were played with kenny jones or whatever his name is, kinda strange they picked later concerts rather than earlier ones.

Then you wouldn't like the latest Tommy/Quadrophenia Live DVD, I would think. It's entirely post-Moon.

Well, it was meant to tell the whole story. And Jones is part of that story. And you know, the Who were kicking butt with Jones, too. Same as they do now. And I really enjoyed the more up to date interview footage as well. I would give it a 9 out of 10 score for Who fans.

And Lunch, I'll post up if I come across it. I saw it earlier this year at Tower. It should be around. Used VHS if worst comes to worst.

Jacaranda 12-03-2005 01:16 AM

Oh man, the Who don't have a Live at Leeds DVD? I'm not sure then why I always thought they did, they have a CD from Live at Leeds then, right...? I think I'll go with The Kids Are Alright, I just wanna see Keith's crazy antics.
I was also debating Rock N' Roll Circus because that has the Who and the Stones, but the Stones sucked on it and the Who only played one (long) song. Although its my favorite song of theirs probably, that version only though. I don't like the really long one.
Heh, I hope you guys knew I was joking about American Idiot. I'm sure you did but on the internet sarcasm gets over looked often.

Yeah, sarcasm was a possibility. But also possibly not. :p

So far as the Stones thing, the new R&R Circus is supposed to be pretty good. But if you really want raw Who, TKAA is where it's at. The film itself is raw and rough around the edges. But it's a great look at a band in motion, and also a band ready to fall apart. Although they didn't know it. And you do get a glimpse of the struggling Moon. Bloated and huffing and puffing in the studio on Who Are You, yet powerful and precise on filmed for the movie live footage. Which was shot on a sound stage. Make no mistake, Moon may of stuggled on his final album with the Who (Who Are You) and he may of had some weight gain. But he was not the washed up load some make him out to be. TKAA shows that. And although he looks in tough shape in parts, he was also coming through. Keith was just as brillant as ever at his death. And his health was getting better, it seemed. It's sad he had to go.

So far as concert stuff, LATIOW is just as well as Live at Leeds. I actually think it was a better performance. And yes, it is available on DVD. The songs are the same as Live at Leeds. Everything is, for the most part. Couple of changes here and there. Well worth it.

And so far as American Idiot? Funny you mentioned it because Pete mentions it in his short film he is running at his website. He says it's a good album. But even with Pete you can't tell if he is being sarcastic. As is often the case with him.

If you don't have the Live at Leeds CD you should get that too. But as John said the Isle of Wight DVD is just as well. TKAA is absolutely necessary.

And the version of A Quick One on the Rock N' Roll Circus is just about as long as the studio version.

Hey Who people. The live Basement Jam is happening right now on Towser TV. It's really cool. Simon Townshend is performing right now. It's cool. Over an hour left.

http://www.petetownshend.co.uk/

EDIT: Forget it. It was just a clip. But they are showing some good recent bootleg Who stuff. I think I missed the broadcast. :(

JohnXDoesn't 12-12-2005 06:11 AM

Hey Who board. I meant to post here over the weekend but it slipped my mind. With the changes being made at MX my subscribed threads seem to get wiped with regularity now. I don't know if that's going to be a common thing from now on, but it makes this thread hard to find without a bump. So here's a bump.

Basement Jam is now playing 24/7 at Pete's website. It's a good bit of music and I've dropped in a few times to check it out. Very intimate and very long, but it seems you can catch it in peices if you like. A schedule is posted at the site also, the link to which you will find in the post above this one. Just click the above link, click on Towser TV, and you're in.

I'll be posting more here later. We'll see what I can come up with. So c'mon Who fans, represent!

I'm hoping for another tour too. I saw them a couple years ago, it was the best show I've ever seen.
