Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 11:41 AM

hahaha... this thread was unstickied so when I came back it was gone... then I did a search for my name and nothing showed up so I figured you guys gave up on me. hahaha.

Tryxx 10-31-2005 11:42 AM

Unfortunately we had a server-spasm, and the search function stopped working. It now only turns up results from after the server-spasm.

There's actually a stickied thread in the resources section with a link to this thread, as well as Manring's thread and the Wooten interview... I should really get back to organising more people. I got an email back from Steve Bailey a bit ago, but he's not gotten back to me since...

kilian 10-31-2005 11:52 AM

^^Try to get a bassist which is more like uhm.. using the bass like a supportive instrument?

/risky to post this in this thread.

I mean: we've got a few solo bassists now, which was also really nice, maybe it's time for another kind of bassist?

Wintermute 10-31-2005 11:55 AM

Oh but solo bassists are SO much easier to get in contact with! :p

kilian 10-31-2005 11:59 AM
Oh but solo bassists are SO much easier to get in contact with! :p
Well.. you could always try!

And uhm.. it would be LOVELY to shoot Mr. M. Hoppus an email and just ask if he wants to do it  Explain to him that we're a forum with bassists and that there are people who think he is a bad example, because he's only rooting.
question:

Do you read/write using sheet music or tabs (or both...)
okay, I'm going to try and blow through a few of these....

incubass, I usually rely on my ears they are far quicker than my eyes. Probably not the best technique for everybody. Though I can usually hear something and play it instantly (of course, depending on the complexity).
where can I purchase this meat?
At your local supermarket.

Wintermute 10-31-2005 01:41 PM

Here's a question for you - got any handy contacts for more people to come and answer questions for us? :p

trumpeter 10-31-2005 01:42 PM

hey jean, love you work, wondering, do you play anything else besides bass?

Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 01:45 PM
I'm thinking of learning Frosty Acres, and I have a few questions about it.

1) What bass is used on it?

2) What tuning is the song in?

3) What are the highest and lowest notes played? (This is just to see if I have to downtune, use an octave pedal, transpose to a different key, etc.)

4) Do you use a split pickup on it? (The high melody sounds like it has a different tone than the low)

5) What are the delay settings?

6) This is a long shot, but do you have a transcription anywhere? I have no problem with figuring it out by ear, but that would save me a lot of time.

Thanks in advance. I know those are a lot of questions, but I tried to save you some time by making them as direct as possible. I think that's all I need to know right now anyway.
1) pac-man 9-string
2) standard
3) lowest G (below b) highest C#... hmm and octave above the b on a guitar?
4) no split pickup.
5) quarter notes, 70% mix, about 5 repeats (I'd have to check)
6) sorry no transcription, I improvise it so it's proably a little different each time.

Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 01:47 PM
Sir Baudin, what is your opinion on pick bass playing?
do what makes you happy! :)

I have a little trick that simulates a pick, so I don't need one myself.

excellent

ps- I just noticed www.putfile.com seems to let you keep files up for aaaages, and I remembered that I emailed you about megaupload.com today.

Anyway, good luck finding something for that mario vid.
Hi, mr. Baudiin!

Thanks for visiting the board!!

I was actually being a bit sceptical about your basses/amount of strings in an earlier thread, being a traditional heavy/death/rock`n`roll-bassplayer I often feel 6 strings should be enough.
Did you feel limited on less strings, or is it mere to see how far it is possible to take it?

And though I am not a fan of how your new Joust bass look, I have to give compliments on the artwork on the neck. I`m planning something for my own bass in the future, when money allows it. :thumb:
I just like to have more variety of notes to play with... it's definitely not for everybody. Sometimes playing a 4 or 5 is fun... but if you can imagine being used to playing a 5 string and somebody hands you a bass with 1 or 2 strings, that's pretty much what feels like to me when I play a 5 or 6 string.

Inlays are great.. good luck with that.

Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 02:02 PM
Mr Baudin,

I already asked you this on Myspace, but I was wondering if you could maybe share some technical specs on the Joust bass, ie neck joint type, woods used, etc?

Also, Id just like to tell you that a) Frosty Acres is now one of my favorite songs, as is What Would HeMan Do, and b) I love that Pacman bass.
I think I listed them in the myspace thing.. but if you guys want them I can paste here.

and thanks for a and glad you dig the pac bass.

Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 02:03 PM
hey Jean i dont really have a question i just wanted to say thanks for coming to the boards and thanks for being an inspiration to me on bass. :)
hey shnobbert, good to know that I inspired you. thank you!:thumb:

Jean Baudin 10-31-2005 02:05 PM
hey jean just wondering when you first started bass what was your practice routine?
did you spend a certain amount of time on scales and what not or what?
when I first started I played along to iron maiden albums. that lasted about 2 weeks before I learned all the material. yeah, I played scales... but mostly just made up stuff.

I'm actually not really a solo bassist. not officially, anyways.

BassVirtuoso 10-31-2005 02:09 PM

Jean, what field would you get into if you didn't become a musician?

ViolenceBass 10-31-2005 02:11 PM

Jean, your my new hero.

Okay video game question
Remember Smash Tv? I think im going to make a bass for Smash TV, that would be gnar.
