Death - Spirit Crusher
Sorry about the insanely long time it took to download this. It sucks, but oh well. The song starts with a very cool cymbal thing on the drums, and some bass notes. It's all in a weird time signature, 15/8 I think. Either way, it's very cool. Then some light growls, still brutal sounding, but light in terms of bands like Cryptopsy, Cannibal Corpse, etc. The growls are over a slow, but very grooving riff, in another odd time signature. The next bit is a slightly faster bit, with some fast picking, double bass, and guitar squeals. At about 1:10, it gets very fast for a few seconds, then goes to another phrase, this is about the 6th in about 1:30. This one is the slowest one yet, with a nice scream by Chuck. It goes back to the intro bit now, but with more technical drums, and guitars come in as well. The next bit is fast too, with nice double bass, and cool guitar. After that, we get a solo, not a great one, but not a bad one either. It really doesn't flow as well as I like it. Then a cool riff over some tom rolls, and a tapping solo, which I like. Then another slow, groovy line, impossible not to nod your head to. Another verse (I think!) and I begin to think what a hard song this is to review, so I'm going to stop here (4:20), and declare this one of the best songs ever. 10/10. With all the riffs, they could have made 5 more songs. Awesome, awesome stuff. ------ Coroner - Suicide Command (Please do this) Cynic - Veil of Maya (Jazz/Metal) Emperor - Into the Infinity of Thoughts (Black Metal) All in my soulseek folder 'Forced Listening' my username is manuscriptreplica. I'm online Right Now. So you can get the Coroner off me. /hint. |

I've not heard any Coroner, but I've been wanting to hear them. This song has been the first I've tried to get for many of manuscriptreplica's FLs, I've just never managed to til now.
Coroner - Suicide Command - 5:51 Starts off with a really cool riff, and then drums come in along with a nice, fast bassline. Might have been a solo worked in there, I'm not sure; that's definitely one there though, around 0:30. This is kicking ass so far. About 0:48, it goes into proper thrash mode, with a more conventional thrashy riff, and it's just generally faster. Vocals come in around 1:00 for a short verse. Some chanting chorus type thing around 1:30, before another really fast, and long, solo, which ends around 2:10. After that, the riff changes; it's slower, and there's more variation between it's highest and lowest points, I like it. Back to thrashy goodness after that, for another chorus, then a quick change to another different riff, before going back to the traditional thrash of the verse/chorus. Ends with a prolonged slowing down, before a final burst of speed to finish on. 9/10, twas excellent. I know I didn't mention it much (was too wrapped up writing about the riffs), but the bass was really impressive too. Would I listen to more of the same band? Yup. I'll dibseys, Bartender, get online in Soulseek!
And finally, someone does the Coroner song! If you want more, try Masked Jackal and Nosferatu. Unbelievably good musicianship on both tracks. There's a bit in Masked Jackal that is so fast, it boggles the mind. |
I'm going to extend my dibs, because the download had to start again. Terribly sorry.

Finally, here it is:
Pestilence - Twisted Truth It starts with a slow riff, then a little slide in the other speaker. I don't like the drums, they are kind of out of time. The growls are very Sepultura like, which is good. Then the double kick comes in, this is great. Still is going pretty slow, unfortunately. A guitar solo is on now, pretty good, but not the best. Similar to the start now, no double kick, and the growls. The double kick comes in again, sounds awesome. After this, there is kind of a technical thing going on, though not that hard to keep up with. Another solo, better this time. He uses some nice techniques in this one. Then back to the verse. Again the double kick. They are pretty loud in the mix, almost drowning out the vocals. Back to the semi-technical thing again, this time with double kicks. Then it ends. 5/10. Pretty repetitive, and I was waiting the whole song for it to speed up, which it did not. A big anti-climax. Oh well. ------ Cynic - Veil of Maya (Jazz/Metal) Emperor - Into the Infinity of Thoughts (Black Metal) Kyuss - Green Machine (Sludge Metal) |

I've not heard anything by these guys.
Kyuss - Green Machine - 3:38 Starts off with a really deep, faily quick, and short, riff, mostly in one channel, though with occasional stings in the other. Other instruments come in around 0:22 - nothing exicting, just drums and bass leeping rhythm underneath that guitar. Vocals come in; not singing, but now growled or anything. It's fairly quick paced, and the chorus maybe even speeds that up a little. Up to 2:00, we've had the intro, then verse/chorus/verse/chorus. 2:15 or so, there's a bass solo, I think. Either that, or a very cool guitar tone. Regular verse comes back in pretty soon though. Another chorus around 3:00, and I'm starting to like this chorus more and more, it's catchy - not demonically so, but catchy enough. Outro consists of the same riff, just without vocals (unless you count occasional coughs as vocals), and then a sudden stop. 6/10 It was good, but nothing amazing. Would I listen to more of the same band? Yep, probably. Mannhai - Spender
Begins with a chord. You notice immediatly the mixing is strange. Sounds like an old live recording. The riff really reminds me of Tool as does the guitar tone. Needless to say, I dig the guitar part. Can't really hear the bass well and the drums are really quiet. The bass is unimportant though because of the guitar. The Vocals are thick. Remind me of an old blues singer like Muddy Waters. At 1:26 the guitar part get's cooler. Less Tool-esque and a wah comes into it. Very cool. After that part it goes back to sounding like Tool. The song is fairly repetitive thus far but I don't mind since I like it. There is a solo at 3:00. It's not particularly difficult sounding and is mostly wah pedal; not very long either. I'm starting to think there are 2 guitars playing the exact same part but it may just be the bad recording quality. This song was thoroughly awesome but the mix was really bad. If it were produced better, I would be very happy. The singer was strange but because he didn't grunt or do any death metal business I was happy. 8/10 I'll look for more but I think it'll be hard to find. i would say dibs, but this is my first post and im not sure what "bump" means. and im probably in the wrong place or something else to make me look stupid. wow, go me....
|
Bump just means he pushing the thread back to the top of the forum, so people will see it and hopefully respond. Just make sure you follow the rules of this thread, and things should go alright.
|
I think someone should make this a sticky

ok ill give this a try, ahem, dibs! ill go for dredg-of the room

Dredg-off the room.
begins with what sounds like a cow bell to me,and quickly goes from chilled chord picking to a smooth, melodic, male voice acompanied by some quite fast drumming and simple bass and guitar parts, repeated until about 0:44. The guitars become distorted for the chorus and play a good sounding riff while the melodic voice continues, till 0:57. then the same as the first verse and into the chorus again and repeat the same patern and throw in a bridge bit. insert 'cow bells' for the outro and there you have it. anyway, i like this song for, what i think, is almost two seperate songs. the quite heavy riffs are merged with the slow-ish tempo, vocals and chilled verses giving it a good sound that makes it aggresive and relaxing at the same time. there are no significant points in the song worth ranting like a lunatic about but i think the rest of the song makes up it and the overall is good. 7/10 im gonna get me more more of this. any recomendations? |
You have to recomend songs for others to listen to.
