Illmatic 10-20-2005 02:56 PM

I forgot, it's against the rules to not like the Grateful Dead.

Woodstock 10-20-2005 02:57 PM

I'm really not a big Grateful Dead fan either.

Glitterati 10-20-2005 03:01 PM

I like Truckin'.
I forgot, it's against the rules to not like the Grateful Dead.
I don't like a lot of bands, but I don't continually post things about them. Congratulations, you don't like them. We all know that. And recently you've even been bringing them up when we aren't even talking about them. It's getting old.

Illmatic 10-20-2005 03:10 PM

That's a lie.

Leper 10-20-2005 03:20 PM

I don't know enough about the Grateful Dead to really have an opinion of them.

Leper 10-20-2005 03:36 PM
and although I've given it quite a few listens, nothing on it's ever risen above the mediocre for me.
I always figured that was one of the general characteristics of a jam band. Like nothing spectacular, but no filler..

DeusExMachina 10-20-2005 03:38 PM

I tried to get into the Dead, but I've come to the conclusion that Phish > The Dead.

Krabsworth 10-20-2005 03:43 PM
I tried to get into the Dead, but I've come to the conclusion that Phish > The Dead.
I really don't like Jam bands at all. There's alot of bands that are popular in this thread that I can't stand.

jpj 10-20-2005 03:54 PM
That's a lie.
No, it isn't.
I always figured that was one of the general characteristics of a jam band. Like nothing spectacular, but no filler..
What gave you that idea?

Krabsworth 10-20-2005 04:02 PM

Tom Petty anyone?

BludgeonySteve 10-20-2005 04:02 PM

I like the Grateful Dead. They sound good so I don't see how people couldn't like them.

edit: yes, Tom Petty is great.

jpj 10-20-2005 04:03 PM

I only have Full Moon Fever, but it's kickass.

My mom told me that today is Tom Petty's birthday.

It looks like it's his birthday, the feature reviews on RYM are all Petty.
I don't get The Grateful Dead. I got American Beauty off either Badmoon or Woodstock last year, and although I've given it quite a few listens, nothing on it's ever risen above the mediocre for me. Since that was kind of atypical of their sound, I checked out Workingman's Dead, Wake Of The Flood and their self-titled album, and none of them grabbed me either. After that I pretty much gave up trying to check them out further as their back catalogue daunted me. :-\
Have you listened to any of their live albums? Those are the really great ones.

DeusExMachina 10-20-2005 04:48 PM
Oh, so that's how it is.
That is indeed how it is.

I actually like the Dead. I think they're a good band. But I don't think they deserve the praise they have.

Glitterati 10-20-2005 05:07 PM
Tom Petty anyone?
He's ok. He has a few songs I like, but I don't think I would buy a full album of his.

I'm wearing my awesome new Alice Cooper shirt

thickasabrick 10-20-2005 05:13 PM

I like Tom Petty, I don't listen to him often. I like the Grateful Dead a lot, although I usually just listen to their live albums.

Broken Arrow 10-20-2005 05:19 PM

It looks as if more people think they're "meh" or bad than the people that like them.

magicbus 10-20-2005 05:21 PM

I'm a meh when it comes to the Grateful Dead.

Yep, I like 'em a lot, have pretty much all their studio albums.

Anybody have or like Mitch Ryder?

robo2448 10-20-2005 05:36 PM

I like The Grateful Dead quite a bit. I wouldn't call myself a deadhead but I like them a lot.

Broken Arrow 10-20-2005 05:40 PM

I'll add you.

I dont have all of there studio album's but I have quite a few. I also have quite a few bootlegs.

JonG 10-20-2005 05:45 PM

Jerry has influenced me and is one of the main reasons I listen to the Dead. I am also a sucker for the vocals. I have quite a bit of affiliated stuff with them(NRPS,Grisman,Jerrys band).
