haha summer school

Anxious 07-05-2005 05:15 PM

yep it sucks.geometry blows

no, it doesn't. the fact that you care nothing (and even have some excessive, meaningless hostility) about a subject that is fundamental to both science and art just goes to show that our education system is not only inept at teaching well, but also falls short on showing people why learning is important and how these subjects that "blow" are of great importance.

Spot the mathematician.

it blows because I'll never need to use it after college.

cheeser_1 07-05-2005 05:29 PM
Spot the mathematician.
yeah i know. sorry. it just hate it, it's even worse when rich kids come to this school and don't pay a cent because daddy makes ten million dollars a year (no, this is not an exaggerated figure) and have this "i hate all this school learning junk" attitude when they've been so privileged just to have it. i work my ass of, and i enjoy learning and care about my education. those kinds of attitudes just really get to me, because you should really take advantage of opportunities to learn.

Anxious 07-05-2005 05:30 PM

I proably wouldnt hate it so much if it wasnt a year course condensed into 5 weeks of summer school.

sketchyjoe 07-05-2005 05:31 PM

I don't mind some Maths. I enjoy Decision Maths and some Statistics. I used to enjoy Pure but this year it's just been too tough.

cheeser_1 07-05-2005 05:32 PM
it blows because I'll never need to use it after college.
so? i'll probably never "need to use" what i've learned about the foundations of western civilization after college. but that class taught me alot about where our culture comes from, and provides real, tangible insight into today's society.

geometry is an invaluable tool in many subjects, and having a good understanding of it and other mathematical/analytical subjects doesn't just help you with related fields, it helps you to think structurally and abstractly, with a better sense of form and logic. besides, what are you going to do that you think you won't need geometry? you may be surprised (or maybe not, i dont' know, since i'm asking).

well, if your in summer school, it's yusually because you failed too many classes or didn't show up enough so you cant complain if you ended up there

Coma_Girl 07-05-2005 05:35 PM

cheeser, you sound like my math teacher. "you'll fail at life if you fail my class"

User Name 07-05-2005 05:36 PM

my math teacher hated me becaise she thought i stole her paper

cheeser_1 07-05-2005 05:37 PM
Decision Maths
do you know what they call that in america?
cheeser, you sound like my math teacher. "you'll fail at life if you fail my class"
psssh, that's not what i said at all. that kind of negativity is part of the cause of all the problems in the educational system. teachers should be encouraging students to learn better (of course, for alot of kids, outside factors like poverty, issues at home, social decay, etc make learning far less appealing - and less accessible - anyway).

sketchyjoe 07-05-2005 05:39 PM

No idea. It's to do with algorithms and applying maths to real-life situations. Things like Decision Trees, Network algorithms (finding the shortest route from one node to another and things like that), Critical Path Analysis etc

sounds like discrete math (i've never done anything in that field though, so i don't know for sure).

sketchyjoe 07-05-2005 05:41 PM

Yeah, it's sometimes called Decision and Discrete Maths. It's really interesting.

SactoUnited 07-05-2005 05:48 PM

What are some good record stores in London?

Actually I have no idea what I'm gonna do after high school. I'm not PunX like I dont give a **** cause I do. I just have no clue what I'm good at.

It most likley wont involve math.

guns_of_brixton 07-05-2005 06:23 PM

I want to do something involving photgraphy, or science. Science is fun.

sketchyjoe 07-05-2005 06:24 PM

Science is boring. History and English are where it's at.

guns_of_brixton 07-05-2005 06:26 PM

You mean History and American. I used to like English but this year my teacher sucked.

Coma_Girl 07-05-2005 06:31 PM

i love english, arts and lit. no sciences for me

Brain Toad 07-05-2005 06:48 PM

I liked math until Algebra 2, then I started hating it because most of that is pointless to me and makes no sense. Plus my teacher was a chinese immigrant who had been in the US for 15 years and still couldn't speak English, and had a speech impediment. So now I have to take two years of math instead of one for my AA.

I've always had a love of history. But my US History teacher in 11th grade reall pissed me off with his little religious inserts and the fact we spent about 3 months on the civil rights movement and 2 on WWI, WWII, Cold War, and Vietnam combined. Not that I don't like the civil rights, one of the most important things in our history, but when its the only thing every teacher always focuses on it gets a little tireing. All we read in my 10th grade English class was 'black' books. A Raisin in the Sun is probably the worst book ever written, ever.

Silvermedalmafia 07-05-2005 06:54 PM

Yeah, I don't care about school right now, as it is summer time.

RetiredAt21 07-05-2005 07:12 PM

I've always liked history class. Astronomy was pretty cool too.

lynch_me 07-05-2005 07:18 PM

I want to take Astronomy in a year or two.

TAND 07-05-2005 07:34 PM

Okay, I'm going to be going to a hockey camp until about the 18th of July. Whose going to miss me? I say I have about 30 minutes before I sleep before the night before I leave.

Jessizzle 07-05-2005 07:54 PM

Is msn not working for anyone else?
Ugh I hate when it goes stupid.
