Haha, I don't think I've made it past the first round yet.

I'm not too worried about it though. :p

Pink floyd thread[/QUOTE]

If a helpful mod were to merge that with the Pink Floyd thread, it wouldn't interrupt our discussion. The question is a lot better than the usual "WUTZ DA DEAL WIF DARK SIDE OF MOON AND WIZARD OZ?"

Bartender 07-01-2005 07:13 AM

Okay, I've merged them. Hope it hasn't made it too much of a mess.

Stoic 07-01-2005 08:48 AM

QUESTION: Some official threads havent been used for a long time, is it ok to revive them or this is against the "Check the DATES of the threads" rule?

Riva 07-01-2005 08:54 AM

Don't worry. Official threads can always be bumped, and most of the larger threads can be bumped as long as you have a useful/informative reply to make. (And they aren't 6 months old or something).

Bartender 07-01-2005 09:41 AM

Yeah, most official or otherwise important threads can be bumped, provided it's for a halfway decent reason. It's just everyday, trivial threads that don't need to be bumped for last year.

Might be better in the pit.

Cain 07-01-2005 09:25 PM

This is a question for the mods: I've been rather inspired by the high-quality FAs and the composition contests in R+M. I have recently felt a desire to introduce some of the R+M people to artists that I care very deeply about but which I do not think get much recognition. The catch: I feel like the artists I have in mind are really not really rock or metal, bordering instead on things like New Age and Celtic. Examples of artists I'd like to cover are Michael Hedges, William Ackerman, Jeff Johnson + Brian Dunning, and Nightnoise, among others.

However, the reason I think this would work best in R+M is because of the ways these players and their musical styles influence the power metal and other operatic-type rock sounds we hear. I think it would serve R+M's community quite well, for instance, to actually learn about modern Celtic music in a way that's somewhat severed from the obvious Celtic/classical leanings of much modern melodic metal, such as power metal and progressive metal. This would help listeners dissect the influences found in their music and gain a more well-rounded knowledge of what they listen to, ideally. Michael Hedges, of course, is something of a rock star in the acoustic world himself, and Will Ackerman practices an ethereal form of acoustic guitar that cerebral metalheads and light-classic-rock fans alike might enjoy and use as influences. Given the technical term for their style of music, I understand that these artists should probably go in "Other Music" rather than here, but that forum is a relative deadzone compared to here, and I would really like to give these artists and musical styles exposure.

Of course, if it fails in the attempt, I'll quit, but I was wondering if I could have a mod's blessing so I could attempt it. I know for a fact that plenty of users have a passing interest in Celtic music in particular and I think it would be a good idea to give them some artists to check out.

Jom 07-01-2005 09:54 PM

Cain: people have made successful "Other Music" threads here. For example, the Chopin thread from letmypeopleho comes to mind. I know without a doubt you would do those artists justice. I'd look forward to reading them.

Glad to have your vote of support. I'll need to study how other people do their FAs a little more, but I've been kicking the idea around for a little while. :)

I'd still like moderator support, however.

I for one would love to see more semi-FA like threads around here. I think that Steerpike, Riva, RCA, ect have made posting in R&M much more respectable. I think that more threads like these can only better the intergrity around here.

Riva 07-01-2005 10:10 PM

I fully support this. I have a great interest in Celtic music and theory, and I know Cain would write up a great article on this subject.

SonofSpanky 07-02-2005 11:39 AM

Hi, you may guess who it is, its Spankyoplank and I have a bloody good excuse for the thread last night. IT WASN'T ME. I know most of you won't believe me but it was my friend, he did it while I was in the bath last night and I had absolutely no idea about it until I tried to log on today and found out i was banned. I'm really sorry if my friend insulted you people, you guys no I'm not a bad poster, the only negative rep I've ever had before was for sucking up to the drummers in the drummers forum bit. I know you probably won't believe me but please try and if you could, could you re-activate my account because I don't want to be a n00b again and I feel (a bit) like people know who I am. My friend last night actually got up to 500th post which I was dead pleased about but really annoyed in the same way. I can understand why you banned me (I am teh ace..etc.) but I hope you could unban me even f just to give a chance to explain myself properly.

Spanky (f.k.a spankyoplank)
