I really like it

well after seeing all the love this is getting I'm going to give it a listen
think I'll like it if I couldn't stand Fortress? |
its similar if thats what you're asking
|
hmm
well only one way to find out |
hmm

That's a pretty good description of it:) |
It's how tyler described it too ha.

And my response was merely support:chug: |
loool at not as technical as btbam
I like both bands, but I don't think even the guys in PTH would ever claim they were better musicians than the guys in BTBAM. Arif is the only one in Protest that really comes close to matching his counterpart in BTBAM. |
cussing on this is annoying
|
cussing on this is annoying
says you who's currently digging Cee Loo, the 'Fuck You' guy:D:D |
it's a real grower, glad it leaked so i can actually have discussions about it instead of just arbitrarily making statements
|
So, I don't miss the screams like I thought I would.

we all know Mr. Goodie Two Shoes here didn't leak it I'm waiting for the 0/5 review from Greer |
So not jeopardizing my career means I'm a goodie-two-shoes? Er.
Someone on another forum asked who that was singing with Rody in Sex-Tapes. Like, seriously? If you don't know who Chris Hannah is, quit listening to Protest the Hero. |
Also, you never mentioned the girl from Kezia was singing on a track here. It was a nice surprise.
|
I just figured people knew already, it was talked about when their studio vids came out, and I mentioned that I'd heard Hair-Trigger was the one she was on a few weeks ago before I had the album.
I didnt want to spoil the Chris Hannah surprise though |
Hannah's a cool dude. And I don't watch studio videos, so that explains how I missed that.
|
I don't know who chris hannah is.
Come at me tyler. |

just being an idiot I wouldn't leak an album if I got an early copy either, I especially wouldn't if I was a music journalist |
I didn't miss the screams as much as I figured I would either.
Rody's song writing definitely isn't as strong as Arif's is. Some of his lines make me think "Are you just making a bunch of random metal sounding shit just to sing a bit on the record?" But he is just singing his balls off the entire time, so I forgive him. Jadea being in a much heavier part than her appearances in Kezia = Win. More BTBAMish harmonizations and counter melodies = Win Overall, I'm impressed. On my 10th listen of the leaked version, probably going to listen to it about a thousand or two more times and then repeat again when my preorder finally comes in. |
I'm at work so I don't have it yet :(
Look forward to getting it later tonight though! |
it was less annoying than Fortress, but it was still just masturbation with distortion.
won't be listening to that again |

won't be listening to that again
Everybody loves to masturbate, even babies. |
I really like Rody's lyrics. Tongue-Splitter is such a cleverly written song, it seems liek it's both about having to sing someone elses words and make them your own and losing your identity because of it, "So I apologize especially to the four or five guys who stand behind me on the stage every night. And as the mic starts to whisper, and the words start to whisper in my mouth that i know aren't right..I've got to get back to who I was before my last ten years on autopilot. It's the mask that quite often starts to eat into your face, lightly like a [something] that can quickly be replaced. Tell me again how my life should have been before I was spineless, before I gave in. Every body thinks it's timeless, well time's running out. One thing I'll never regret is I never shut my face."
And there's a nice clever jab (I think) at Arif's verbosity, "I'm not asking for your pity, or 'woe is me' sarcastically. I'm not losing sleep pathetically while waxing so poetically, but I'm waning alphabetically as I keep dropping bombs apologetically." Other than the "everyone knows that cancer takes bites parts of every family, and it eats up families whole" I don't think there's anything else that's not well written. |
It's not as much that I think they're poorly written as much as I feel like they were written more to fill a purpose than to express full ideas. While the genuine thoughts and feelings behind each song shine through, the way Rody chooses to word some ideas just seem too...."-insert general idea- + brutality = write it down)".
Totally not trying to make this a bash feast or Rody vs Arif deal though, just to clarify. I just have a childlike appreciation for music that causes me to always except bands to stay the same when I know for a fact they never do. Not that change is bad. |
As someone who was hugely skeptical of C'est La Vie at first, and was always more fond of Kezia than Fortress, I have to say I absolutely love Scurrilous. Its going to grow on me, but thats only going to make this more awesome.
And as a guitarist, i think this is by far Luke and Tim and their most mature and diverse, which is refreshing and very engaging Made me decide to go to the Barrie date AND the Toronto date :D |
It's definitely a grower. The first few listens were a little overwhelming, but I've probably listened to it more than I care to admit and now that I'm really familiar with everything it's probably my favourite thing they've done.
|
I've always loved Kezia the most out of anything from their discog, because to me, its always been the most emotional and passionate thing they've done. Fortress was kind of "soulless" to me really.
I still love the hell out of that album, but I think that this comes really close to Kezia, if it doesn't surpass it. Weakest track to me though seems like Tapestry. Its just a little lacking compared to a lot of the other tracks on here imo |
Reign of Unending Terror is the weakest.
