i suggest atom heart mother. but at this point the only thing that matters is you keep on listening.
Meddle is one of my favorites, period. I suggest checking that if you haven't yet.
I'd say pick up Meddle and SOS. Why not take a sample of both eras?
Meddle, go go go. You can listen to Echoes that way ...
If you liked the live half of Ummagumma then your best bets are Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets, since those are from the same era. Meddle and Atom Heart Mother more closely resemble the studio half of Ummagumma. All 4 are great albums, of course.
I've been listening to Ummagumma, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds a lot lately. So good.
I would go with Piper and Meddle next.
Saucerful of Secrets for sure, coming from the number 1 Ummagumma fan. And yes, I'll send you the audio.
I need to listen to AHM a little more. I never really got into it the first few times I listened, and I kind of gave up on it.
It has a guy eating breakfast on it. How can that be a bad CD? |

It has a guy eating breakfast on it. How can that be a bad CD?
Because it's boring and annoying to listen to?...or were you being sarcastic..? As you can tell I'm not much of an AHM fan. |
Eh, that comment was more for the lulz than anything serious.
I havent listened to AHM enough to really have an opinion. The few times I've listened to it, it's seemed pretty sub-par. |
Has Vancouver finished off Dallas yet?
/off topic |
They could have tonight, but Dallas won 1-0 in OT. So Vancouver is up 3-2 in the series now.
Damn it! I was gonna keep watching the game but I didn't.
/back on topic David Gilmour had awesome hair back in the day. |
I agree, not this short hair now. That must be why Roger left.
It's ok, old people usually look ridiculous with long hair anyway. i.e. Willy Nelson. But I love Willy so it's ok.

It has a guy eating breakfast on it. How can that be a bad CD?
I pretty much have terrible taste in music but I love Alan's Psychedlic Breakfast so much. The crunching of the cereal and: Marmalade - I like marmalade it's prob my favorite song on that album |
AHM is so good. The opening suite, Fat Old Sun, and If are great tunes.
I should listen to it again. I never really liked AHM because of the orchestra and choir. It seemed like they weren't the Floyd I was used to with all that extra stuff. The bluesy part in the middle is sick though.
I'll give it another shot though. |
Thanks for replies guys.
Think i'm gonna get Meddle next, have been leaning that way anyway. Then probably AHM. I think Piper will be the last one i get |
It's probably better that you get Piper last. It's very different from any other Floyd except some of SOS.
As far as the orcheastra and choir go, it really adds to the song in ways im really not used to hearing. it was a great experience the first few times .listening to it. PF can just make great music. that is the first song off of AHM. the name of the song slips my mind.
I'd go Meddle, Piper, AHM, if it was those three albums next. I still like AHM though.
Atom Heart Mother is one of PF's finest work :)
I've never given it much attention.
I can't stand Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. It just tries too hard to b e weird. And the title track gets dull and seems just a warm up for Echoes.
I listened to The Final Cut earlier. Forgot how much I loved that album. The Gunner's Dream is one of my favourite Floyd tracks. |
I haven't got around to getting The Final Cut. It doesn't really appeal to me that much, I'm not really into the bleak, Waters dominated stuff like Animals and The Wall too much. Not as much as the three pre-Animals albums, anyway.
I'm a bigger fan of Gilmour than I am of Waters, but I still really enjoy The Final Cut. You can tell Roger Waters wrote it, but it's still pretty good.
I used to hate it, now it's grown on me. I reckon my favourite would be Fletcher Memorial Home.
the album concepts that waters created are just too amazing and made even more amzing by the way the group demonstrates it musically. I cant pick any1 band to be my favorite but PF is definetly one of the select few. (i could pick prob 5 that are interchangable)
