eh, that's not because of something that has to do with the nature of rap so much as the stupid people who tend to do it. look at limp biskit (sp?) or linkin park (sp?). i tend to think of some ska vocals as rap-like. jesse michaels could rhyme with the best of 'em, and when you pay less mind to the the genre-barriers, some ska and some rap aren't as different as you'd think.
Healthy Body is kind of like teh rap. Ska and rap are alot alike. Cheeser has shown me the light... I still won't forgive you for spamming my Neil Young thread in my n00bhood.

I thought you were vegan?

So far today, I've eaten three bowls of Rice Krispies and a glass of tea. Tonight calls for hard liquor and barbeque meat in celebration of a nation I don't really believe in.

you made a neil young thread  . Were was I?

albert_bass 07-04-2005 03:57 PM

I also noticed that ska and rap sound kinda similar sometimes, but what does it matter? Punk can sound similar to every other genre out there and that doesn't mean nothing.

Anxious 07-04-2005 04:03 PM

My friend just paid 45 bucks for the warped tour just to see the unseen and mike watt was there and he didnt bother to see him. I'm pissed

horay, forgiveness. yeah, i met exile and lokey (rappers, google them if you care) when they played at our school. they're cool guys, we hung out most of the night after they played. the crowd was mostly looking for loud mindless hip-hop to get drunk and grind to, and quite a few people were upset about the political/social lyrics. but anyway, point: exile was telling me that he loves 80s/early-90s punk, and that one of his favorite bands is op ivy.
I also noticed that ska and rap sound kinda similar sometimes, but what does it matter? Punk can sound similar to every other genre out there and that doesn't mean nothing.
there's alot of genre mixing/overlap/whatever in music. it shows that if you weed out the punx separatists and the corporate/social stratification that goes on in music and in "scenes" there's really no difference between punks and any other kids in subcultures of a similar nature. the musical overlap just goes to show it.
And yet I am.
Then, only solution is murder.

There's a difference in the music they like and they have different ideals. I don't see what you're trying to say.

Sid 07-04-2005 04:09 PM

Haha, Cheeser's disciple AndHagan posted in there.
There's a difference in the music they like and they have different ideals. I don't see what you're trying to say.
what, cultural overlap doesn't compute in your brain? true hip-hop culture shares alot of ideals with punk culture and the music sometimes sounds the same.

no, johnny got a new username and has been here since.

and for the record, i do not have disciples. people who don't hate me aren't automatically my disciples, and i certainly take no responsibility for anything they say (unless they say something good, then it was definitely all me).

No, it doesn't, sorry for being spanish. Ok, it has some similarities but what I was saying is that it's not too similar so you can't compare both cultures. At least here they're absolutely different.

to me they're very similar, maybe my experience with them is different, and i'm sure things are different in other countries, but i would guess if you found the right group of people, you could see how the barriers really don't exist.

I remember I read a quote jello biafra said way back. I think it was something about rap being closer to punk than all the new pop punk bands or something. I made a thread on people's opinions about a looong time ago. Maybe if you dig deep enough you can find it.

Hahaha I don't know what to say... Were you thinking about killing me in a very gore scene?

Here things are very different I guess. That would never happen in Spain, trust me. Both cultures are very different. While punks normally care about what they sing, it doesn't usually happen in rap. There's some bands that do, but not a majority of them, and then, the fans don't. I'm talking about spanish punk and rap.

yeah, and what i really like is that when i realize that the people making the music are more or less just like me and my friends, it stops mattering what music they play, and it matters more about who they are. which is how you can get along with nearly anybody, so long as they're good people.
