I'm geniunely flattered. Although one thing I'd like to change is to change "rejecting The Man" to "resisting The Man"...I think "resisting" works better there.
I love "Bamboozled".
That movie was one of the most important experiences in my racially-aware life. I could go for a really long time talking about why, but...not right now. I'm glad you like it, though. Everyone should see it. It's a really important movie for all Americans to watch, IMO. |
This is the Northeast we're talking about here. Minnesota is in the conservative part of the North. I live in a North where being liberal seems to mean that even if the liberal knows as little about a given issue as a similarly uneducated conservative, the fact that they're liberal automatically means that they are on the side of progress and righteousness and so gives them liscense to incessantly open their ultimately ignorant mouths to voice their "opinions." I pride myself on not being one of these "liberals." I'm a real one.
Quoted again for Vince. This is the way so many of these people are. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only liberal that manages to look at any conservative stumping point from an objective perspective. Going to the self-proclaimed most liberal school in the country doesn't really help. |
So when I went to Cornell for my visit, they were throwing a riot against minority admissions, that was comforting heh :) (This being an Ivy league institution in New York)
Wait, what happened? Explain.
That movie was one of the most important experiences in my racially-aware life. I could go for a really long time talking about why, but...not right now. Do The Right Thing, He Got Game, Jungle Fever, Hoop Dreams, Malcolm X, and Bamboozled are all in my top 15-20 movies ever. |

It made a lesser impression on me, but still, a very smart aware film, I thought. I could be wrong though... |

Why quoted for me? I go to a very conservative school and am easily the most liberal person I have ever talked to here. I am thus obliged to make well researched arguments in order to even gain a modicum of respect as far as my opinion goes. |

I was talking more about my situation: see what being in an overhwlemingly "liberal" location feels like and the ironies inherent to it. Maybe I was just venting and was sad that no one responded to that post in particular. :) |
Wait, what happened? Explain.
While there for my visit, there was a large protest by the students protesting minority admissions to the college. Basically protesting affirmative action, and several newspapers even put in articles on it. |

Oh... Well the point is being educated about your opinion is way more important than the opinion itself. |

Loved it. And yes, it is an important movie for the black community. And to add to another topic at hand: I go to a liberal school...but it's a state school (not a liberal-arts school) and most of the people there are from Illinois (so there are a lot of genuinely nice people) |
All right, guys. I'm really tired, so I think I'm gonna head out now. I hope I don't come on tommorrow to see Jim catching hell for not wanting to go with the flow of the discussion...that's all I'll say about that.
Anyway, good night all. This was a great discussion, thanks for including me in it. |

So they were protesting Affirmative Action, not having minorities in their school. Well, that's what I hope. |
Peace Cain.
This convo has inspired me to write. Maybe by this time tomorrow I'll have some lyrics  |
So they were protesting Affirmative Action, not having minorities in their school.
Well, that's what I hope.
Lol, I hope so too. Ok, bed-time. Good night, guys. Thanks for the intellectual stimulation. :) |
So they were protesting Affirmative Action, not having minorities in their school.
Well, that's what I hope.
I hope so too, but I wouldn't be too sure judging be the glares they gave minority students. Basically, if you think they got in because of affirmitive action, it's easy to assume you're better than them, even if they are better than you. |

I think some of the white students at UIUC feel the same way about me :-\ Peace Vince. It's nice to have some serious discussion in here. I just wish it was more commonplace. |

No it's worse, you do care and do nothing about it.
No real reason for quoting that, don't worry. Hello, anyone. |
Hello everyone. I like the new thread name.
