*looks at my hybrids*

Ermm....

*looks at Zildjian's website*
Designed with Akira Jimbo to combine brilliance and darkness. Thin Crashes and Splashes project like heavier cymbals due to the un-lathed bell.
Static 01-01-2008 01:37 AM

it actually does jay

fishbulb 01-01-2008 03:24 AM

He was talking about something more along the lines of this for a lathed bell:

It's a bad example but you can still see how the lathing on the bow of the cymbal continues to the bell.

Panopticon 01-01-2008 03:30 AM

fair enough. My bad.

i just assumed that shiny = lathed.

DrummerBabe go to the stronghold for posts like that.

Orely 01-02-2008 09:08 PM

HAs anybody had any experience with Byzance cymbals. If so, what is your opinion?

Im looking into the 18" medium thin crash and the 16" china.

Drum Phil 01-02-2008 09:51 PM

I own the 13" Dark hats and 18" Dark crash.

Pure sex.

Buy them.

Orely 01-02-2008 10:38 PM

I wouldnt be getting the dark ones, but the traditional ones which sound great. Thansk for your opinion though. :)

MisurCanavi 01-02-2008 10:38 PM

What kind of music do you play and why you looking at those specific cymbals?
What kind of music do you play and why you looking at those specific cymbals?
I will be mostly be playing alt. rock. Im thinking of those because they have the sound I was looking for. Im just asking for opinions about them. :p

MisurCanavi 01-03-2008 11:19 AM

I don't have anything against them. They SHOULD fit right in with a general alt. rock setting. In my opinion they are better live than in the studio, but what do I know.

CombatWombat3 01-06-2008 03:29 PM

Anybody have experience with Paiste 2002 chinas, mainly the 20"? I'm looking for a really versatile china, not too dark, but not overly bright.

oliv_da_skinmasher 01-06-2008 03:46 PM

The novo is bright the thins are said to be very dark. Try the china medium bright

vash_the_stampede 01-23-2008 05:17 PM

**** i havent been here on a while.
i ordered an A custom medium ride 20" , but those idiots at the music store ordered me the wrong one; an A Custom ride 20". i think its a piece of crap

any thoughts on the medium ride?

-TGP- 01-23-2008 05:49 PM

Well, in the next few months I will have to pick up some jazz cymbals for school (pending I get in!) and Im pretty open to suggestions.
One for sure buy will be a K constantinople, but I'll be looking for another ride and some hats.

crazyguy832 01-23-2008 05:55 PM

K Custom Hybrid ride. Damn good ride.

That or pure K Constantinoples. Damn good cymbals there, too.

As far as hats go, get something like the K Darks.

Static 01-23-2008 05:58 PM

wtf hybrids are pretty awful in jazz

they are just PING PING PING PING PING

drummguy731 01-25-2008 11:27 PM

I know, old topic, but although the message can barely be understood, ATRU is right. Hybrids are a little too pingy for real combo jazz, or cool jazz. In big band and fusion jazz they sound amazing. They pretty much work in everything but extreme metulzzzz and extreme jazz. They are also not just PING PING PING, they've got a decent wash, just not the best for extreme jazz.

I'd look into the Light Rides. The 24" is a little overpowering on its own for combo, although with enough tape, its easier to control. Check out the 20" and 22" Light Rides that are now coming out, they will be good rides. Another good combo ride is the 20" K Custom Dry Ride. As for hats, the Hybrids actually perform very well in jazz, although not perfect for small combo stuff. I'd look into the K Light hats for that, or an old pair of Avedis hats, try to find lighter ones for combo stuff. Good luck man.

Aaron 01-27-2008 05:53 AM

18" Paiste Traditionals Flat-Ride.

Dude123 01-28-2008 10:11 AM

Getting back to the drums after having not played for a while due to school and such. Will mostly be playing rock and metal, though anything is really possible. Current set up is Sabian AA rock ride 20", AA medium Crash 17", AAXplosion 18" crash, Sabian signature Max Splash 11" and a Wuhan china 12".

Looking for new hats, as the ones I have are still the crap pearl stock cymbals. Also thinking about one more crash, maybe something on the dark side. I've heard good things about the Meinl Byzance dark crashes, but other reccomendations would be appreciated. In terms of price range for the hats, something along the cost of the Sabian AA/AAX lines.

bobby__johnny 01-28-2008 01:03 PM

for the crash, check out the HHX stage line. awesome cymbals, and still cut with dark sounds.

as for the hats, looking at the rest of your cymbals, couldnt go wrong with some AA Fusion hats.

LoneStarDrummer 01-28-2008 03:31 PM

i think it's impossible to be disappointed with the hhx stage crashes. those things are lovely as can be.

those and piaste sig. mellow and full crashes are my favorites.

Verdas 01-30-2008 01:50 AM

I just thought I would post in here. I used a Sabian AAX Stage Ride 20" and I honestly think it is the nicest ride I have ever used. I currently use a 21" Sabian AA Dry Ride, but I think I will have to get my hands on this AAX Ride.

Anyways, try it out if looking for a new ride.

bobby__johnny 02-03-2008 12:37 AM

my next ride is so a Hand Hammered ride. theres a 20" and 22" ride at a local shop. its either HH Vintage or Class ride....either way, they are a sweet *** ride.

Metaldrummer616 02-04-2008 07:14 AM

Anyone have any experience with stagg black metal bells? I just ordered a 7'' heavy. I hope I like it.

Panopticon 02-06-2008 11:38 AM

i know a few people on here have them...drum phil does. He should be able to tell you.

Drum Phil 02-06-2008 01:05 PM

In short, its so much more musical than a zilbel.

Fairly low in pitch, dark and sexy as hell.

Metaldrummer616 02-07-2008 07:14 AM

It came in yesterday. I love it so much. It's not annoying or harsh like the LP ones.

Drum Phil 02-07-2008 12:18 PM

Told you so.

Trembling Willows 02-08-2008 09:01 AM

Just a quick question, I was just wondering what the equivalent Zildjian line to Sabians AA line.
I was just interested in comparing the differences between them.

oliv_da_skinmasher 02-08-2008 09:09 AM

Probly the zildjian A series

Drum Phil 02-08-2008 09:14 AM

Pretty much.

I need a new mini-china. Im thinking a 12" Meinl GenX filter.

Suggestions? I want it quick and trashy, preferably meinl.

oliv_da_skinmasher 02-08-2008 09:34 AM

Sabian HH 10" China Kang
Sabian AAX 12" Mini China
Paiste Signature 12" Thin China
Meinl Gen-X 15" China Crash

I know you said preferable meinl but they're all good

Drum Phil 02-08-2008 09:47 AM

AAX is a bit bright for my china tastes. I couldnt find a paiste when i looked for one, but i'll deffo check that out.

15" is too big really.
