You should still own it, it's one of those essential for life albums.
|
It was my favorite for a while, but it was also my first Beatles album, and once I got more they began to grow on me. I still like Sgt. Pepper's a lot, but it isn't my favorite.
I think SPLHCB is incredibly overrated.
Ya but its still worht buying, and a must have for any Beatles fan. |
every Beatles album is a must have for every Beatles fan.
With that being said, its still a wonderful album, but is pwnt by many of their others. |
Yeah, so many people blatantly quote it as being The Beatles best album.
Thats cause it is their best album. Abbey Road drags on way too long and is just boring. Rubber Soul and Revolver are both great but they don't go up to the heights that Sgt. Pep's goes to. White Album just sucks and MMT is great but it never really feels like a full album to me. |
Jac I thought you didn't like the Beatles?
|
I enjoy Revolver more, but Sgt. Peppers has got to come right after that for me. Its genius is in variety.. and its full-album nature. I love that no singles were released (or at least didnt make it to number one?).. it was the first true 'full album' experience.. where one song leads into another. Its got a very live sound too, which I like.
|
Jac I thought you didn't like the Beatles?
What! Why did you think that? I love the Beatles but I just think quiet a bit of their stuff is garbage. (White Album, Abbey Road, all early albums - minus their singles.) |
Jac I thought you didn't like the Beatles?
You might be thinking of me. |
No, I was never really sure of Lunch's position on the Beatles.
It seemed like Jac was ripping on them whenever he was here. Maybe I'm seeing things, or it was sarcasm that I caught a few times. |
I love the Beatles but I just think quiet a bit of their stuff is garbage. (White Album, Abbey Road, all early albums - minus their singles.)
Are you serious? I understand why you might dislike those albums, but calling them garbage is going a little overboard. |

Especially Abbey Road. |
I think every Beatles fan here should go to wikipedia and search Beatles and click on their albums and read the backstory/meaning/recording to every one of their songs, it makes the songs much better. Songs you didn't like before will become some of your favorites.

Personally, I think SPLHCB is pretty mediocre. The material isn't that great compared to their other albums, and it's fame is mainly due to its revolutionary ideas from its time. Still, Abbey Road remains high on my pillar. Pretty much a perfect album to me.

uh, wikipedia?
Just buy the damn Anthology. |

I have the DVD series. It's great. :)

SPLHCB was the album that caused me to like the Beales, and in turn, good music

Any of you heard that the Beatles will finally go digital within the next year? I read an article in the paper that said they're remastering the band's whole catalog and will bring it to the online music industry soon. I think it's a great idea considering they were a huge singles band, and the fact that a huge market is available to them.
|
Beatles album music > Beatles singles music by far, but whatever.
Its interesting to note that the CDs of their albums that you buy were remastered and originally pressed in 1987. A lot of other bands goes through constant album reissues and remastering, but for the most part, all of The Beatles' catalog was remastered using mid 80s remastering technology, save for Yellow Submarine, 1, and Let it Be Naked, but those weren't original albums. |
Yeah, I prefer albums as a whole, but there are millions upon millions of dollars worth if their singles are sold online.
And I dislike the remastering job they did on the first 1987 pressing, but maybe thats because it's 2006. I believe George Martin is helping in the effort, so I trust him. |
I guess it will get them more young fans. Personally, I was raised on The Beatles. I remember when I was like in like preschool, my parents were teaching me the names of the Beatles and taught me who Mark Chapman was. The Beatles were the first band I ever liked.
|
i like the remastering job as it is, personally. I just don't find the songs on '1' to sound as good as they do on, say, Revolver, or Abbey Road.

Sorry 'bout jumpng in the thread like this, but same with me. My mom is a Beatles FREAK and if you don't know at least 3 songs by the time your three, she'ld disown you(J/K I over exaderated). But I'm pretty sure we played Twist and Shout over a thousand times on road trips. |
It's weird, now my parents don't seem like freaks. Hell my dad said he doesn't even like them that much and my mom still loves them but we don't listen to them much. I'm by far the biggest fan in the family. But when I was growing up, I remember them teaching me the names and stuff. We listened to With the Beatles a lot.

Really? I think the songs on 1 sound great, specifically the older ones. |
I don't even know where my 1 CD is anymore.
|
I lost my original copy of 1 so I had to reburn it.

I am continuingly digging the Beatles. Today I listened to Rubber Soul again, and I still can't believe how good it is. It seems to have that effect everytime I hear it.
|
I like most of Rubber Soul, but some of the poppier songs annoy me sometimes. I can easily listen to it the entire way through though.
|
The only song on Rubber Soul that strikes me as irritating is "Michelle." The rest of it is great. "In My Life" is one of the best Beatles songs.
|
Rubber Soul was the first classic Beatle's album in my opinion.
|
in general, Help > Rubber Soul, but Rubber Soul has Nowhere Man and In My Life, easily two of their best work.
|

Definitely one of their greatest. That was actually the song that first got me to take the Beatles seriously when I was younger. I actually like Michelle though. But I don't particularily like "Drive my Car", "What Goes On", or "I'm Looking Through You." |

I'm Looking Through You is one of my favourite Paul songs! |
Rubber Soul is so great, Norwegian Wood is the song that got me into The Beatles. I love You Won't See Me, In My Life, Nowhere Man, and Think For Yourself is one of my favorite George songs. I think RS is definitely my favorite Beatles album.
|
Rubber Soul was my first Beatles album so it's really special to me. And it's still probably my favorite after Abbey Road. An interesting thing about Rubber Soul for me is that when I glance at the tracklisting and judge each song individually, it doesn't seem as strong as Revolver for example. But whenever I listen to it, I have to listen to it as a whole, it just blows me away. Every song on there works perfectly on the album even if they don't seem as perfect individually.
|
Rubber Soul was my first Beatles album as well. Norwegian Wood makes me happy inside. :)
|
I have a lot more respect for Rubber Soul than I did after finally being able to give it an honest listen.
Norwegian Wood makes me happy inside.
I'd say something.. but im afraid you wouldn't know I was joking. :-/ So yea, can I be your Norwegian wood? :p |
