Why are their icecreams in plastic bags?
|
not too much. Work is extremely slow today with all the flooding in the area.
No food + cigarettes = angry stomach |
maybe you should give up smoking.
Where I live they are banning smoking in 2 days time (yes!) |
banning, as in they arent selling tabacco products any longer?
Sounds like tyranny to me. I realize i SHOULD stop smoking, but its ultimately my choice |
I can live with smoking, I don't see why the government puts all its efforts (alright, obviously not all) into banning smoking yet neglects other areas. I mean as long as someone aint doing it square in my face I couldn't care less.
I mean, we keep bashing on about health foods but theres no ban on eating a Big Mac in public or ordering an extra side of chips/fries in a (rather lower class) restaurant. I mean they suggest raising the legal buying age yet at the same time some 12 year old could stroll into Tescos right now and buy a reasonably sharp knife right now, few to no questions asked. |
well smoking is quite a common thing, and its mainly because of the effects of passive smoking that it is being banned, and it doens't smell nice. I had going out in the evening then coming back stinking of smoke. And passive smoking is unhealthy for you.
|
I dont mind them banning it in some bars, restaurants, whatever. Its a form of control that they have no business being a part in. If a bar smells of smoke, and i didnt like it, i guarentee you id never go back.
Same with anything really. If it doesnt fit my fancy, ill find somewhere else. I try to be considerate at all times when im smoking They are trying to ban it in public, while outside. Whats the arguement there? Its descrimination |
not outside, only in public places, bars, restaurants, work etc. But if it was my decision i'd ban it everywhere and ban the sale of cigarettes
|
I find that attitude amusing. You feel it doesn't limit your rights, so you have no problem with it.
its only going to get worse, and branch out into other areas until it directly affects you, and you are on the other side of the fence for a change |
Yeah, but eating the "wrong" things or at least too much is unhealthy for you. Violent crime doesn't look nice nor to a certain extent is it healthy for you.
I mean, theys two hot topics in the news recently but the measures the government is taking against them is neither as harsh or widespread as that of smoking. I mean, c'mon, we all know smoking is bad for you so they removed commercials to deter smokers. Yet we still allow fast food giants to advertise at major events. Not to sound like I'm picking on em but the recent McDonalds campaign blatently said "Watch football and eat the biggest bloody burger you can buy". Discouraging physical fitness/activity and encouraging mass unhealthy eating. I understand your point and to an extent I'd like to see smoking baned in most public places but youns gotta see my point here as to how the way smoking is tackled seems awfully one sided. |
i definitely see the correlation you are trying to make. I know in my area, thankfully the mayor of this fair city is a smoker, thus he veto'd the bill.
Theres exists a level of descrimination against smokers by non-smokers, which kinda makes sense to me. Once i state my belief that i have a problem with obese people, im immediately labeled superficial, and dismissed by many. For me, these two situations are closer than most would like to believe |

But at least our government is doing somehting, that is banning smoking (by the way i'm referring to the government in guernsey, not the english parliament) |
I doubt the policies differ too heavily to be fair.
|
in Toronto we just have horrendous anti-smoking laws; at the moment you can only smoke outside and in your own house, but they're trying to SOMEHOW think of a way to ban smoking inside any building with a roof (including personal property). Can't smoke at bars, in restaurants, anything
|
yea, so lets bog down our officials with trivial issues, such as smoking and bannings, instead of pin pointing issues that are actually relavent.
still doesnt sound absurd to you. Non-smokers feel they have a RIGHT to not breath in smoke when they go out in public. Thats fine and dandy i suppose, but you are literally limiting someone else's rights to achieve that. If thats not a contradiction, i dont know what is edit : someone needs to organize this "smoking" party, and do some kind of non-violent protest something about 100 people going into one restaurant, and chain smoking brings a smirk to my face |
