i didnt enjoy meshuggah, but they grew on me.
|
good music
I would like some trippy, relaxing songs. I want them to be musically rich, with watery/airy effects or feeling, generally slowish, and with minimal/non-intrusivve/no drums.
you might like the album '76:14' by Global Communication. took me ages to find it but was worth it :p. few reviews here: http://www.discogs.com/release/3300. i'd say they're a little like Boards of Canada. great to chill to. |
yes boards of canada once again

Textures Both bands love their polyrhythmic chugging but unlike Meshuggah, they're enjoyable.
Seconded. Much, much better than Meshuggah IMO. Manages to be catchy too. |
hey, I've been a big metal, electronica and avant-garde fan for a while, enjoying a lot of Ulver, Aphex twin, Iannis Xennakis, Lux occulta, Necrophagist etc. but lately I haven't really found a lot.
I've heard a track by Maudlin of the well (Kayo dot), and i quite liked that, i think it was off the album Bath. In general, I'm sort of after something that's quite dark, ambient, and maybe even jazzy, any recommendations? .....sorry about the long post..... |

Anything like these songs: Down - Jail Moby - My Weakness Julee Cruise - Falling (the Twin Peaks theme) Juno Reactor - Angels And Men Season - Throw Me To The Sky (stream: http://www.last.fm/music/Season ) thanks in credit
This is basically describing Lemon Jelly, so try and get Lost Horizons by them. Or you could listen to Flying Lotus' 1983, depends on your mood though. |
hey, thanks for the suggestions :)
Arcturus are great, I was the first person into their Sydney show  and as for Cynic, I've got the Focus album, and it's also top quality :) |
Grey: check out Peccatum
thanks for the continued replies to my request as well |
hey bluey, I've heard peccatum-veils of blue, but thats about it, i liked what i heard though. I think i might check them out some more, as well as maudlin of the well, thanks for reminding me :)
You might wanna look at 'Coil', you might enjoy them. |
If you check out maudlin of the Well, also look into Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye.
|
:thumb: thanks
|
If you are looking for some dark and ambient metal, you may want to check out ISIS and Neurosis as well.
|
Yesterday, I actually checked my myspace friend requests from bands (I usually put it off for a while after getting them) and I got a request from a REALLY good metal band that has a great deal of depth in their music. Oblique Rain. I highly recommend them. I added their album to sputnik.
|
are their any other meal bands similar to Running Wild? bands that are pirate influenced?
|
There's a band here called Scuurvy that are a 'pirate metal band'. They dress up like pirates on stage and all that. It's awesome to sink a few beers to, though they're just recording their EP at the moment, so at this stage they're probably not really what your looking for.
I'm not aware of anything else that would be fitting though. |
Thyrfing.. they are viking metal, but it can sound pretty piratey.
|
Anybody know any bands similar to Joy Division?
|
New Order (they're Joy Division minus Ian Curtis)
Echo & The Bunnymen Interpol frequently get compared to them too, although they're much more modern. Check out Turn on the Bright Lights, it's an excellent album. |
Depeche Mode... possibly. I'm not too sure..
|
There's a band from Calgary that fits into the 'yarr' criteria, but the name escapes me.

I would hope so.
|
thanks for the recommendations. i found some other bands that were pirate metal, Battleheart, Verbal Deception, and Swashbuckle. all are pretty good
|
Verbal Deception is the band I was referring to.
|
Does anyone know of any like ambient metal bands that are instrumental? Not that I am bothered by vocals at all but I think that would be cool.
|
You might try http://www.myspace.com/hyatari
EDIT: But not all their albums are instrumental. |
I'll check out em later since the school computers have myspace blocked. Thanks though.
|
There's more, I'll try and think of some.
|
I looked em up and MA and they sound cool, I'll be sure to give em a listen.
