You can get good reviews on Amazon, you just have to be able to tell who the smart ones are who are presenting a solid review instead of biased crap.

MalcolmYoungRock 05-22-2005 12:30 PM
There are always morons that write reviews on Amazon, just because they can.
But still it's really sad how they probably haven't even heard the album and they just say Floyd blows.

slowhand 05-22-2005 12:38 PM

Not everyone can be a Pink Floyd fan.

robo2448 05-22-2005 02:16 PM

I just use this site for reviews, along with a couple others so I get a lot of different opinions.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 05-22-2005 05:00 PM

I haven't been keeping up lately :upset: I've read some, though. How many albums have you guys done lyrical analyses for already?

I read those comments by people on Amazon; they made me sad and angry. I know that not everyone likes Pink Floyd, but the least they can do is show some respect.:upset:

At the moment, we're still on Dark Side, but we are preparing for WYWH.

lunch998 05-23-2005 03:50 PM

You people need to start delivering you're analysis. You know who I'm talking about....

BigTrav415 05-23-2005 04:20 PM

Ok, I know they said not to call albums besides WYWH, but since all the songs have been taken, here are my requests

Animals: Dogs or Sheep, who ever claims one I'll take the other, but I don't mind doing both :-)
The Wall: Nobody Home, In the Flesh?/In the Flesh (need to be done together)

Haven't heard any other albums...

robo2448 05-23-2005 04:48 PM

I vote for The Wall nexts, since there are a ton of songs that are all very thematically important. Everyone will be able to do at least 1 song, and everyone will probably have to do 2-3

EDIT- after WYWH though

BigTrav415 05-23-2005 04:52 PM

I vote any of the progressive albums, I haven't heard any others (my ****ty town's CD store doesn't care anything but the 4 bigguns)

MalcolmYoungRock 05-23-2005 05:05 PM

Woah, woah, fellas.

By the time we're done with WYWH we'll probably forget about your dibs and we dont' want to have to look back.

The Wall is far too long though.

And Animals makes more sense if people have read the George Orwell book "Animal Farm" because that's what the album is based on (I think..)

So let's just stick with what we have.

BigTrav415 05-23-2005 05:22 PM

Yeah, Animals is somewhat based on Animal Farm (great book btw), but, as someone informed me when I posted this earlier, Animal Farm is a criticism of communism, Animals is a criticsm of capitalism.

Sorry about the dibs, I just wanted to be sure I could write something...

Animal Farm is an awesome book. It's one of my favorite books of all time, actually. George Orwell is probably my favorite author.

The Wall is long, yes, but it is also perfect. I honestly believe that it is the best album ever created. I know, it's a bold statement, but it's what I believe.

Just keep posting and checking up with the thread, I'm sure you'll get to write something :).

I feel that we don't really have to do "The Wall" since there is already a MASSIVE and brilliant (IMO) analysis on The Wall and the movie that came with it.

http://home.mchsi.com/%7Ettint/Intro.html

If you take the time to read through it, I'm sure you'll agree.

lunch998 05-23-2005 06:42 PM

Yea that is brilliant. And way to keep them in line Malcom. No dibs until WYWH is done.

Riva 05-23-2005 06:50 PM

Alrighty then. Dual analyses will be fine. So TheDMV and I can both do WYWH, etc.

It's fine doing SOYCD together, since it basically is a split song. You may want to analyse the musical content of all 9 parts, so it may be a big job. If you'd like, I can write down the times all 9 parts start...

And thankyou to MYR and Lunch. Guys, I won't be on regularly till Uni ends, so thanks for keeping everyone in line.

Once all of DSOTM is done, then you can go ahead and nominate the next album, and when the first WYWH analysis is in, you can start picking songs.

Musical content? Then it's going to be harder than what I expected. But, I'll try, unless someone else would like to have a go at it. And please, write down the times of the 9 parts, as much as I love the song, I really don't know that elitist division of the song.

Riva 05-23-2005 07:26 PM

In three weeks.

So, you guys should consider doing the Wall, simply because I think personal meanings are jsut as important as the message Roger was trying to impart upon the audience.

Kingofdudes 05-23-2005 09:12 PM

I feel like such a leech(sp?) at times in this thread :-/ That is why im gonna upload a bootleg of Dogs during their last show of the Animals tour (the show where Roger spits at the crowd) for you guys.

Check that out

moaner 05-24-2005 05:02 AM

"Animals" wasn't about animal fa\rm, it was Water's comment on society. It was a while ago i read it, but i don't even remember there being a dog.

moaner 05-24-2005 05:04 AM

oh, and is someone going to link to all of the posts making uop the lyrical analysis of dark side?

SomethingfromHolland 05-24-2005 07:39 AM

Wooow, that's a good review/interpretation of the song (although it isn't my favourite floyd song by far)

Dragon_Prince 05-24-2005 07:57 AM

very nice interpetration Med57, after reading that I agree completely, never think of songs uhm so deep :S :P

moaner 05-24-2005 11:51 AM

are all songs on dark side spoken for? and wish...?

i tell ya, when we come to do meddle or saucerful, then i shall be in teh zone.

standard 05-24-2005 01:49 PM

Very nice Med!

I can't wait for The Final Cut.

bennyl 05-24-2005 02:21 PM

Med57, nice. It was the best one yet (better then mine) but the one thing I want to know is about how it fits into the album as a whole. What does it contribute to Dark Side?

EDIT: and to the guy who posted the '77 montreal animals concert, that stuff is gold. I know a guy who was at that concert (and is also an amazingly good guitarist) and he told me that it was a terrible concert and no one was listening to the music, just screaming. Also, the pigs on the wing solo is by their backup guitarist Snowy White
