Awesome. My mom bought the Beatles 1962-1966 cassette when I was really young, and I pretty much grew up listening to that. However I figured rather than buy a best of album, I'd rather just collect all the Beatles later albums.

/needs only Yellow Submarine and Revolver

blue3 10-16-2005 02:11 AM

I still need to get Help, A Hard Day's Night, and Beatles for Sale.

Leper 10-16-2005 02:17 AM

Well, I just meant post Rubber Soul Beatles albums. They're music was a lot more album-oriented in that era, rather than singles-oriented like before Rubber Soul. So in that regard I figured there's really no use in anything more than a greatest hits album to cover the early years, am I wrong?

morrissey 10-16-2005 04:04 AM

Personally I prefer the songs from their earlier career (Rubber Soul and before), but their albums were much stronger in the the latter half of their career. It might have something to do with the covers (Please Mr. Postman, Dizzy Miss Lizzy etc. do nothing for me), and there are a lot of garbage songs on all of their early albums. If you took a track or two off Help or A Hard Day's Night, they would be pretty close to 5/5. That being said, their version of "Twist and Shout" is a highlight of Please Please Me and overall the energy of the early songs can't be beat.

Ah what the hell I love everything the Beatles did.

Ulysses 10-16-2005 04:07 AM

Yeah Twist and Shout, in the Cavern Club and similar venues really went off. I'm not a huge fan of their take on Dizzy Miss Lizzy though. Overall I prefer their latter material, Abbey Road, Revolver and the like. I take one of their albums out usually at least once a week and immerse myself, superb music.

morrissey 10-16-2005 04:27 AM

Ah I haven't listened to the Beatles enough in the part year, since coming here I've discovered so much music and I find I don't have time for the old stuff as often. Then again, I spent the better part of my high school years listening to next to nothing besides the Beatles, so I guess this is making up for it.

Revolver is just delicious.

Nevermind... it really isn't that great. I don't like the whole picture thing above a post and signatures are annoying.

Broken Arrow 10-16-2005 10:07 AM

I'm going over to ET to wait this out.

Walrus Gumboot 10-16-2005 10:11 AM

Ahh! What is this? No Quick Reply?

I might like it after a while, and hey, at least we don't have signatures
What key do you think I should get when I get my first harmonica? I'll probably get one for Christmas or something.

NP: Bob Dylan - Ballad Of A Thin Man
A hamronica in C would probably be the best to start with, and then once you figure out how to play one note at a time and play "Love Me Do" or whatever, you can get a G or A or whichever. I think A is my new favorite for playing cross harp in E Blues. G is my favorite for just random jams

Yes we do. And the quick reply, you have to click the bottom right next to Quote.

I want to learn how to play harmonica. It was hard when I tried doing it myself, but it might get easier if i keep doing it

It's really fun jumping though the thread....found this:

Walrus Gumboot 10-16-2005 10:24 AM

Oooh, ok. I love how it seems to refresh itself automaticaly. Either that or I am insane

The trick to harmonica is practicing random tabs until you can figure out where the notes are. www.harmonicacountry.com has a crapload of good tabs

Once you get past that stage all you need to know what key the band is playing in, and if it is cross-harp (use the harmonica 5 steps above the key of the song for that bluesy sound)

Speaking of which:
Does anyone know what key Easy Wind is in?

angusmaster 10-16-2005 10:25 AM
