I couldn't pick just one favorite bassist, being a bassist might contribute to that.

My favorite bass player tends to fluctuate between Squire and Lesh.

mine would have to be jaco, bootsy, or John Entwistle.

Mine would probably be JPJ (not you jpj :p ) Not just because of his Zeppelin stuff, his solo stuff is pretty awesome too. It is a hard decision though.

Do you guys see Classic Rock as a time period or a genre of music? I see it more as the 70's era rock music than a type of music.

It's not a genre at all. It's a classification of diverse Rock that took place during the late 60's and early 70's. It's all about the time period not the sound.
