Couldn't it not even necessarily entail a lack of interaction with other people, but just a general distrust in the population to do what's best? ie elect the right president, do what's necessary to preserve the environment, not have tons of kids they can't support to get more welfare, etc?

I don't think it is. I have a general distrust and dislike for many people, but I also love a lot people as well.

idk I've found that i've grown out of most of my misanthropic thoughts as I got older.

considering the well being of humans in the modern era isnt even comparible to that back when we first came about, well... mankind's going the right direction if with sheer numbers in gooks

i have this as well.

I'm just saying most of the people I know who claim to be misanthropic are usually jerks and don't know how to interract with other human beings.

I can't say I have a genuine disstrust of people, I mean I'm not like everyones best friend but I get along with most and I don't see why I shouldn't.

the bottom line is misanthropy usually complements introversion

and the only person I love is probably my mom

I don't have any faith in the human race as a whole but I can still try to make the best of it while I'm here. No use in becoming negative about how stupid people are, imo.
